I am writing this review as the wife of a former employee in Arizona who was smart enough to get as…read morefar away as possible from this company. It's not normal for me to applaud my husband choosing to leave a company before he has something else lined up, but after he shared these reasons with me, I actually asked him why he stayed as long as he did. Here are only the items that dumbfounded me as a person with management experience: 1. No one checks on the store manager or the store to make sure that things are being done right. 2. The store manager in this particular AZ location takes money out of the till for alcohol and replaces it a few days later. 3. The store manager "does favors" for people by doing work on the sly in the bays during work hours. Because it's a favor, no invoice is made so that there is no record of the work done and the manager pockets the money with the mechanic he had do the work. In this recent case, the customer came back and complained because one of the tires was damaged in the process and the customer wanted it fixed. The argument that ensued between manager and customer alerted the rest of the staff that something shady had transpired. Biggest issue in this case, customer has no protection from mechanic failure as there is no record of work being done by this mechanic or this company. 4. Used tires are sold by most tire companies to a 3rd party, but certain protocol is in place to protect the company and ALL inventory sold, used or new, should be accounted for. This particular AZ store, the manager personally profits from sale of used tires as the money pads his pockets. 5. hourly employees almost never have overtime because the manager goes in and falsifies the time cards. When brought to the attention of corporate and HR, employees were told that the manager was asked and he said that the employees gave him permission via a phone call to take away money from their paycheck and charge them for lunches they were never allowed to take. 6. When my husband finally had enough, he turned in his keys to his manager at this AZ location. When asked to be let out, as it was after closing time, this particular manager refused to unlock the door. My husband had to pick up the phone and start dialing 911 before that manager finally obliged. That is attempted false imprisonment. In the 20+ years that I have been privileged to manage in some of the finest institutions, I have never heard of such gross negligence on behalf of upper management when these types of behaviors were reported. I heartedly feel that the Purcell family is probably completely unaware of these behaviors, but their human resources is not and either are the upper management that they entrust the company to. Someone at Purcell who actually cares needs to wake up and smell the motor oil that is leaking all over the floor in AZ, because eventually, someone from the public is going to get hurt by the actions of this one AZ manager.
