Something has changed! We have gone to Bobs for many years. Stopped in for 50 little neck clams. Service was slow and they sold us bad clams. More than 1/2 the clams were dead! They smelled terrible! We threw the clams out for fear of getting sick! Always loved Bobs but not sure if we will go back. read more

I was so excited for some crabs this Labor day weekend as it was my anniversary. The service was good and the food was prepared in a timely manner. However, everthing we ordered was extremely salty and not fresh. I am a seafood connoisseur so it's not hard to pick up on when it's not fresh. The flavor is not what it should be. We ordered a dozen large male crabs (cleaned), Dungeness crab platter with corn, potatoes and broccoli, a pound of mussels and lastly, a half a pound of pick and peel shrimp. I also paid for 2 large butters as well. Everything, down to the butter was nasty. The butter is not real butter. It may be margarine but the texture was very off putting. Every item we ordered was very salty and meat inside the crabs was dry. The shrimp was wayyy over cooked. Even the potatoes, corn and broccoli were horrible. A total waste of money, such a shame. Nice guys, unfortunately, they smother everything in old bay seasoning or paprika, which takes away from the flavor of the actual seafood. They even smothered the side dish of broccoli with old bay seasoning, weird. Also almost 0 clam in the clam chowder, very expensive potato soup. read more

Incredible old time sea food market. They have everything and fresh. Their take out is wonderful. If I lived near I'd be there once a week!

The lady was was very nice at the counter. Unfortunately she must also be the cook and cashier, as she went in the back to create my order of fried shrimp and a crab cake. I expected good food. The fries were soggy. The shrimp is coated with a cornmeal like substance not bread crumbs. But they tasted ok even if very over fried and dry. The crab cake however was inedible. Also coated in a corn,eat like substance instead of bread crumbs, but tasted like old old fish. Not even a sweet crab taste as expected. Really really bad. I do not recommend and the prices are the same as if eating in a sit down restaurant. read more

I'm basing this review on the fish and chips. Since I only been here once I was in the mood for some fish and chips and had to coach a football game against Holy Spirt HS. Im so happy I found this seafood treasure. It's a place to grab and go both fresh and cooked seafood. They have a wonderful variety and you can get seafood cooked different ways; fried, broiled, steamed. What ever your little heart desires. With an extensive seafood menu I really only came there for the fish and chips. I'm happy they specify that they use cod in their fish and chips. I hate when Restaurants don't tell you what fish you are eating. Cod is my favorite for fish and chips. The food came out about 10-15 min after I ordered. I don't mind the wait because the food was made to order. And that's how it should be. Fish and Chips- DELICIOUS!!! A dry batter fried to a Golden brown and the fish was so warm and moist a nice white,flaky, moist cod and a crispy golden exterior. I don't ask but the tartar sauce tasted homemade. It was good and for $6.99 it's a gre Fries- amazing!! Lightly battered fries very crispy amd tasty. The staff was great. This place is awesome I wish it was closer to me haha. ***Update i have to sadly lower my rating for this place the last two times I been here have been disappointing. Like always I order my fish and chips. This time I also order some steamed crabs. These times I been here the fish wasn't as fresh the fish and chips didn't stick to the batter, the fish shrunk and there was a lot of moisture that came out of it when you cut the fish like it has been deep frozen. I buy seafood from here at least 2x a month in the summer. If I have company it can be 2-3x in a week actually. However, I can't see how anyone dislikes this place. I've never gotten food that's not fresh, affordable, or felt ripped off. I have been a customer for the 2 years I've lived down here and won't look anywhere else it's not needed. Bobs has it all and I can literally feed 20 people for the cost of 5 people eating out. The three times that I've patronized Bob's to purchase fish to cook at home, I confronted at 11:30 am (a good hour after opening time ) an empty display case. When I asked the employee what they had, he answered "what do you want?" My experiences of shopping are to view product displayed to offer the customer choices and promote products. Bob's employees need a primmer in promoting sales to the public. My guess is that most of their sales stem from selling take out, which I've had. Sometimes you find a business that really cares about their customers and makes an effort to keep them. Unfortunately this isn't one of those. The locals in Absecon already know this, but this business will go out of its way to not serve you if you arrive at closing. I walked in the door at 6:00 to buy cole slaw. Two people were being rung up at the register, and as I walked in the door a woman quickly said, "Hun, we close at 6:00." Being that it was 6:00, I had money in my pocket, and they sell Cole slaw, it wouldn't be difficult to purchase some. But that was a bridge too far. I had to go elsewhere to buy food. Not a big deal really except that the attitude toward the customer was not great. And if a business is anti-customer, I don't think I'd trust their products. read more

This is only my 2nd time to Bob's and the 1st time I've ever ordered ala carte items and not a platter. Everything is steamed / prepared fresh to order and seasoned to your liking. The mussels were my favorite as the seasoning was sooooo on point and the mussels were nice and juicy. The shrimp were my second favorite as I got the peeled and deveined with the old bar and garlic butter. They were plump and the seasoning again was perfect! The crab cake was broiled to order and perhaps I've been spoiled by Baltimore crab cakes, but it wasn't as jumbo lumpy as I imagined lol! There was more filler than I would've liked but it was still good nonetheless. Now, their cocktail sauce is BOMB !!!! They even sell it in jars as well. It is well past time to update my prior review because the lines pouring out of Bob's Seafood Market verify that this "raw" fish monger located near the sea is doing something right. Walking in to order take out exposes one to a rapid pace calling of names and passing brown paper bags filled with cooked seafood to eagerly awaiting customers. The folks who pack Bob's come from every corner of the community from the high brow to those who choose a comfy path for life. If you are thinking about eating in .... Bob's is truly RAW! Simple window booths that are right in the middle of the action. Although the lines are for the vast array of fried or broiled seafood, Bob's has a really good selection of fish and shellfish on ice if you want to cook your own. The clams are local and those littlenecks really were tempting. Bob's works with locals who clam and crab so you know fresh is what you are getting. The prices are all very reasonable! My order of the day was split one fried platter and one broiled platter plus some CHOWDA. The fried platter included a nice piece of whiting with some perfectly butterflied shrimp. All were perfectly fried in a way that the breading added to the taste of the fish and shrimp. The fries on the platter were really good and the cole slaw tasty. The "healthy" broiled platter featured a nice array of steamed veggies, rice and once again a perfectly broiled and seasoned piece of salmon. The Manhattan style clam chowder was tasty but more about the fresh vegetables rather than the clams that failed to appear in every spoonful. So if you anywhere near Absecon & the shore and hungering for seafood to go cast your sites on Bob's. They might hook you into becoming another regular! This place was just ok. Its convenient for a stop off to get some lunch or fresh fish, but nothing to put on your "must stop at" list. Variety: They seemed to be out of several items, including the main reason I went there for, crabs. They did have a few variety of crab legs, all which have been previously frozen. They did have a nice array of fresh fish that looked good in quality. They had some prepared foods like seafood salad and homemade coleslaw. Service: What a let down. I came in so excited to get some good eats but the man helping me did not share my enthusiasm. I shared that I was out of town and couldnt wait to try some of their food and asked for recommendations. Unfortunately my new bff was of no help, or personality. He also left out one of the things I had ordered, which makes me sad. Quality: The crab legs were ok, a bit dry and waaaay over seasoned. Holy old bay batman. The seafood platters here were delicious. The amount of seafood for the price was spot on. Meaning a good value for your buck. We took out from Brigantine and it was well worth the 12 minute drive. Brigantine is a food dessert - meaning that there is nothing worthwhile here trying. All the prices are extremely high and quality is below cooking school quality. My only small observation was with the New England Clam Chowder. They use way too much flour and our soup was too gelatinized and pasty. The creaminess should come from potatoes and cream. I would probably not have their chowder again nor would I recommend it. This place aside from their soup is a hidden gem. read more

As I left AC to a friend's house in upstate NJ, I was contemplating what to bring. I noticed this place off to the side and quickly turned. After a quick search and finding good reviews, I jumped all in and ordered 4 dozen crabs at a very reasonable price (3 male #1s, 1 female #2s). Steamed fresh with old bay in a short 15 min wait, I was given 3 aluminum trays with hot crabs. Even though I had an hour drive, they were still hot when we dug into them. We were very happy with the size of the #1s. Very meaty and full with sweet crabmeat. The old bay with a hint of garlic was great as well. The female #2s were small, but that didn't ruin the feast. I wish I lived nearby. I would be a regular. But anytime I'm in the neighborhood, I'm coming here for a meal for me (they had fresh seafood everything), or for steamed crabs. Spring for the #1s. You won't be disappointed. One of the guys also helped me carry out the trays to my car in the pouring rain. Great customer service. read more

This place was jumpin...the herd of people never stopped crowding the place while we ate inside.... Pounds of shrimp and dozens upon dozens of steamed crabs were flying out of the place.... Our broiled combination seafood platters were very tasty.... steamed little neck clams were sweet and tender and my dozen raw cherrystones were only flawed by the one bad clam that I had to regurgitate as not to ruin The rest of the evening and/or morning... This clam and wait time were the only fails in an otherwise good dining experience. A 10 minute wait time was more like a half hour wait probably because of the numerous take out orders, and orders people had called ahead for pick up. I go fishing on a regular basis I can tell fresh fish when I see it because I was unable to handle them I couldn't fit them over and look into the gills but judging from what I saw the fish look very fresh. The scallops were nice and firm and not slimy and the shrimp add a nice texture to Within. Speaking about the raw fish only right now. Now let's move on to the cook fish the Brayden wasn't too much however I should have got my order baked or broiled it was a little bit too salty for me however you can't satisfy everybody all the time right nonetheless I'll be back you tried the seafood combo hopefully this time they can broil it or fake it. I was searching for fresh caught salmon for seven people and I bought the most delicious, moist salmon at Bob's. I broiled it with Hoboken Eddie's Merlies Magic and for the price of a meal for four are a restaurant we had a hearty meal for the seven of us. I'll be honest - I've only been here once so I am only reviewing based on one item. But the broiled crab cakes are the best I've had anywhere! And the price is unbeatable. They were 95% delicious crab, almost no filler at all, only what was necessary to bind and season. I didn't even use the tartar sauce--would have masked the deliciousness. Absolutely incredible. The prices at Bob's are very reasonable in my opinion compared to Maryland! I ordered 3 dozen cooked crabs with garlic, butter, and old bay. There was little to no old bay on the crabs. In fact they tasted salty as if they were drenched with garlic powder. I was expecting fresh garlic. I'm willing to try again with just Old Bay or possibly steaming them myself. read more
