It's like they modeled themselves after a US dive bar, and somehow imported a certain eau-du-hurl from a place like The Alley in Carlsbad. I'm in beautiful Ipanema in beautiful Rio, why-the-f would I want that? Never ate here, for reason stated above, but beers were cheap and cold and guys serving them have a good sense of humor. There is a patio area across the street in the General Osorio plaza that is open on busy summer nights. I think it's theirs but I never hung out there. Want somewhere with good food, strong caipirinhas, and a new-bar-smell? Go diagonal across the plaza to the new Belmonte, and see my other review, which I'm writing up shortly...

The staff was friendly and no one was too busy to pay attention. The menu seems to offer a lot of variety. The meat croquettes with gorgonzola cheese were definitely very flavorful (one must like that type of cheese). The arancini (fried balls of rice) with cheese were much milder and very palatable. Both were quite filling. Plenty of beers to chose from and sucos (juices) as well. I've always seen this place jammed packed and a few times with live music. When that's the scene, I think the expectations for a full meal and service should be a little different.

The other positive about this place is that the portion sizes are huge. The waiter brought out so much food that our group of four people could not finish it. It appears that this place caters to larger groups. That said, the food is very average. As seen in my photo, we had a mix of various appetizers and entrees. Some of the meats were dry and some of the food tasted bland. This is a place that emphasize quantity over quality.

The staff was trying to push the rodizio, but we're not too into the meats. I actually over heard someone asking my server: "Did you ask them??" After he had already offered this, it was kinda of funny. They were slow, so I understand the attempt to up-sell. Overall I was no offended and my boyfriend and I rather enjoyed ourselves. This kilo restaurant has been here for over 5 years and its always busy Mon-Sun :)…read morePrice of the kilo is approx. R$70 (plate can be around R$25-30) and everyday their menu changes. They usually have bacalhau, a fish dish, chicken and pasta. Their salad options is small, but have the basics (carrots, mayonnaise, fruits, greens, etc). There is always a pasta dish ( penne with funghi, or penne with tomato, or spaghetti etc), plus the traditional rice and beans (even feijoada on Saturdays). I really like their soufles (carrot or onion) and empadas (chicken or shrimp). There is seating on an outside area, main floor and second floor. Service is also great and attentive. If you are in the area, this is a good option for food - a little away from the main road, so its not a place you would see if you are on the main road of Ipanema. But its worth it to check out.
