Do not let Boat Services touch your boat. I did and I regret it. I am very disappointed in what I got from Boat services. I had a large project costing about $130,000.00 for a complete electronics package. Carl promised all sorts of connectivity with engine monitoring and alarms. He really seemed knowledgeable. He could not deliver on many of his promises including: the engine monitoring, the trim tab indicators, the radio, the entertainment system. The list goes on. It turned out that 99% of the work was done by a kid named Adam who really doesnt know what he is doing. He charged about $140 per hour for Adam's time, so I would expect very professional work. Adam couldn't do the simplest things like make a second microphone for an ICOM radio work or make the courtesy lights work correctly. He incorrectly wired the navigation lights 3 times because he didnt know what the light pattern should be for "at anchor" and "underway". He used the wrong kinds of switches and the wiring ended up being a birdsnest. I gave Carl the opportunity to make it right and the revision work was as bad as the first time. I ended up hiring a skilled marine installer to tear out all of the wiring and redo it for 1/3 of the hourly rate charged for Adams shoddy work. When we dug into it we saw just how bad it was. We found overly long wiring tangled up. Abandoned wiring that was left in place. Incorrectly done connections without heat-shrink. Wires that were not secured at all. Lots of clippings of wires and zip ties and packaging that were never cleaned up. This job was an absolute mess. As a result I started having malfunctions within 2 months of installation. Boat Services cost me a lot of money and aggravation and they don't have the know-how to make it right. It seems that Raymarine is the only product they know about so definitely don't have them touch any non-Raymarine products on your boat. Better yet don't have them touch your boat at all. You can get much better work for less money elsewhere. read more

Where do I start??? Carl was referred to us by West Marine. We met with Carl and was impressed with his TALKING knowledge. During our meeting we expressed our need for our new system to be user friendly and reliable. We understood the investment we were making and Carl said he could meet our needs. Carl gave us our estimate in November but did not start the work until February. During this time, he had a helper do some of the wiring. His helper was messy, used our brand new heads, and left his wire cuttings all over the sole. Carl ordered extra items and said he would return it and get us credit. He also said he would get the boxes for all of our equipment so that I could register the units for warranty.... He never did! He said he would calibrate our auto pilot/radar unit, HE NEVER DID! He took our money, $19,216.62 to be exact and did not service the products. We hired an outside carpenter to fit the units on the fly had to have another piece fabricated for our salon helm. We ended up having another electronics vendor out to work the rats nest of wiring left behind from his helper. I suggest you stay away. read more

I have a nice 37 ft boat that has a steering/autopilot issue. So I talk to Carl about my autopilot issue. He sounded nice on the phone, and I was glad when he said he'd be by my boat the next day. I went out of my way to go there and hide a key for him as I couldn't meet him when he wanted to be there. I didn't hear back from him. So I called, and didn't get an answer. I called and text the next day, no answer. I know he gets my text as my phone confirms read/delivered. 3 days passed, still nothing, not taking the call or answering the text. Nobody forced you to go to my boat Carl. Nobody asked you to do free work. And certainly, even if you couldn't go, if you were half a professional anyone would hope you to be, you would have made a call or a 5 second text. Regardless of a few good reviews you have had, you really don't show it by my experience with you. So I don't know if the reviews are from your buddies to make your yelp account look good. read more

I have used Carl for several Jobs. He is a master at Raymarine electronics. He installed my MFD and Radar and integrated my old autopilot. He even sailed my boat to Del Rey to have the mast pulled. Lately he installed my new autopilot on my Catalina 320 using a design I found. It was a complex job involving a custom machined backing plate and drilling a hole in my rudder post for an Edson tiller to interface with the new autopilot. He often has a very long queue for work to be done but he does give priority to you if you have an emergency. Most of his customers have developed a relationship over the years. Let's face it most guys that work on boats are flakes and Carl is not a flake. You can also trust that the job will be done correctly. Yes. I have had issues where he needed to come back to fix things and he was on it! He has many years of experience and he knows electronics and how to do it safely so you won't get a fire when you are at sea and you know your electronics will work in the fog. read more
