It was a 15 minute walk down to the waters edge (look for the blue and white striped poles) where we met the Australian wife of the operation and checked in. She was warm and friendly and gave us some good tips for other sight seeing during our stay. We boarded precisely at 4:30 and headed out right away. There wasn't much in the way of narration, in fact we had to keep asking questions just to get some information in between the pre-planned sights like the villa featured in the bond film Casino Royale and one of Richard Branson's houses. Most of the tour was spent at slow wake speed going along the shore. Not really any effort to try to help you get great pictures. In the end this didn't quite live up to expectations-just someone going through the motions and collecting a big fee. While it was great being out on the water, the high sides of the boat and slow speeds did little to cool us off on the very very hot day. Luckily we had brought along our own water! I am writing this as a warning to other travelers, since time on vacation is precious and I feel…read morethat a considerable amount of ours was wasted completely unnecessarily by AC. We made a reservation for to rent a boat for 6 hours, starting at 10:30 and going until 4:30. When we woke up, the weather forecast for the morning was not great, however as we would have to pay the full rental amount for a reservation no show, we headed out at 9am as we were staying in Como and needed to stop for groceries first. AC did email us and tell us the weather wasn't going to work and that we could either try for closer to Noon that or the next day, however we didn't see this email until after we arrived. When we arrived it was pouring rain, so I talked to the men staffing their booth who told me it was unlikely they'd be letting anyone out that day, but maybe at noon (same message as the email). I asked if I'd be charged for the rental and they said no. Since we had driven an hour, we went to get a coffee and see if we could wait it out. At about 11:45, the weather had improved considerably and the rain had all but stopped. We went back to the booth, and the man working was completely dismissive, rude and disrespectful. I tried asking if he thought they'd be opening soon, and he just said it was about more than just rain and it was unlikely. I told him we'd be back later if the weather got nice. About 20-30 minutes after the sun had completely broken through the clouds, we came back to the booth (this was about 2pm). I saw they were sending boats out, and asked if we could still use the rest of our reservation. The man staffing the booth acted like I was crazy, and told me they had no boats until almost 4. I asked what happened to the one we reserved and he said since we had canceled they'd given our boy to someone else. We absolutely never cancelled our reservation, and I made it very clear I wanted to take the boat out. I completely understand the weather is out of anyone's control, and my frustration isn't with AC not letting us out in dangerous weather. However, at no point was it communicated that they'd give away our boat (especially so quickly) if they suddenly decided the weather was permissible. The company had our email, and phone number. It wouldn't have been hard for them to send a quick follow up email letting us know they were sending boats out. And if they had communicated that I needed to be sitting at their booth the second that they decided it was safe, I would have done so (My wife and I were in Como for her birthday and our anniversary, and it was very important for us to have this experience). I emailed my concerns to the company with how the situation was handled, and received what I perceive as a quite hostel response back (accusing me of lying basically). They have a tendency to do this on Trip Advisor to negative reviews, it's probably worth reading how they treat customers when things aren't right. TLDR - Poor communication about their policies for rain delays caused my wife and I to waste a considerable portion of our vacation on a boat ride that didn't happen.

Very convenient to have and a great mode of transportation. The views you get from the boat of the lake and all of Como and it's surrounding cities is beautiful. Whether your are taking the boat to a destination or just for a ride on a Sunday afternoon it is definitely worth it. I have been countless times and Everytime is just as breath taking. The staff on board are very friendly and even allowed me to use his sailor hat for a picture. Be advised that these boats do fill up very quickly and can get quite crowded. It's be smart to get a boat pass or have your ticket in advance so you don't have to wait in line. Great great place.

We followed the schedule he outlined and has a great visit with the least hassle. The weather was unfavorable, this being November, but he had no control over that. I want to share the info for travelers visiting in fall & winter to plan a beautiful self-guided day tour at a very reasonable rate. On a rainy day with overcast gray sky we took the red M1 Milan Metro to Milano Nord Cadorna train station to catch a morning train for the 1 hour multi-stops ride to the Lago Como Station. We had contacted the very helpful and responsive Lake Como ferry website (info@navigaziionelaghi.it) prior to our trip and learned that on a November Saturday (low season) the first FAST boat to Bellagio would be at 12:25 pm and Como Lago station is only a 5-minute walk from the ferry dock at Piazza Cavour. With ample time to spare before ferry, we toured the Como Cathedral on way to the ferry ticket office right across the street from the Hotel Metropole Swiss. The ferry ride was smooth. It made several stops at towns along the way before reaching Bellagio. Due to low season, rain and closure of the main attraction, there's not much to do in town aside from strolling and relaxing at cafes. After an hour we took a boat to Varenna (this one carries both cars and passengers)15 min.away. Varenna ferry pier is at Piazza Martiri della Liberta. Again, due of rain, late afternoon timing, and uncertainty if attractions were open, we just strolled around a bit and had dinner at one of the restaurants south of the ferry pier. The pier is just 10 min walk from the Esino Lario train station where we caught a late train to Milano Centrale then transferred to a southbound yellow M3 metro, 2 stops to Milan Duomo. We're glad we came. Although the weather was gloomy the villages were quaint and peaceful. We could picture how wonderful it must be on a nice sunny day. The whole self-guided Lake Como ferry tour cost about €20 per person.

When we stepped off the boat, there was a grassy area where the staff had hors d'oeuvres set up at a long table with a white tablecloth. There were cute little white wicker furniture sets with tables so the guests could mingle, take pictures, sip Prosecco and look out at the lake. When it was time for dinner, we moved from the grassy area to our tables, which were positioned perpendicular to the lake so everyone had a great view. The dinner was in the marquee - a permanent outdoor area with tile flooring covered by a big white tent. We had the garden half of the marquee to ourselves, so our seating area was adjacent to the grassy garden area where the hors d'oeuvres were served. The sides of the marquee were able to be closed independently so that as the sun was setting, strategic flaps were folded down to prevent the sun from annoying people as they ate while still letting a breeze into the marquee. The champagne was poured just before we were seated, and we had enough of it for everyone's toasts. After the champagne, there was red and white wine for the table. The antipasti we chose was the smoked salmon. It was a huge dish of thinly sliced salmon perfectly smoked and beautifully presented. The primi piatti we selected was a pasta with prawns. The pasta was cooked al dente and the prawns were very light and fresh. The secondi piatti was the beef limousine and vegetables. It was cooked to a perfect medium rare with a pink center and was very tender and juicy. Nothing about our wedding was conventional and we stayed true to that with dessert. Instead of a wedding cake, we selected a special dessert. With a wedding party of 32, there will always be a dish that someone doesn't care for because maybe they don't eat fish or they don't eat meat. But EVERYONE LOVED the chocolate fondue. They brought huge dishes of fruit with skewers and bowls of melted dark chocolate. The staff also brought out espresso. It was the perfect ending to a great meal. We had the area under the tent (the marquee) for as long as we wanted. But after dinner and drinks and long day, some people began to go back to the hotel. We stayed at the Albergo Lenno, which was less than a mile around the lake. It is a beautiful walk and very doable, especially since there are gelateria's along the way. But we also rented a bus for those in need of assistance for one reason or another. Inside the bar area was a dance floor and a local DJ (that we did not have to pay for) who played a great selection of popular songs that you would hear off the radio at home. We danced into the night with the locals and had a blast. They closed around 2am. It is also worth noting that on the other side of the dance floor is a large opening to a beach area. This was a large area with sand and lounge chairs. The kids loved playing in the sand in their wedding clothes .

To get there, you'll need to hike a series of steep roads, steps and trails. The funicular is a fun activity to try and it takes you up to a cool spot for a few hours of exploration. Seriously, it has FUN in it's name, give it a try...FUNicolare! :) It gets crowded on busy weekends and holidays. 5 stars!
