We were happy to even find a boat to rent on a busy day. However, when we got there an employee had double booked the boats without documenting them. After waiting for 40 minutes on the hot deck, I go back in the office to inquire about our situation. The employee working the front desk was incredibly accommodating and kind, but the lady who seemed to be in charge just kept saying in a loud voice repeatedly "give her her money back. ". I have priced Bennington boats over a 100 mile radius and John gave me the absolute best price I could find anywhere. I truly enjoyed my experience and would definitely go back to purchase another one. John had the boat ready before the projected date it was due to be ready. I forgot my trailer latch when picking up the boat and John was kind enough to give me one at no charge. John took the time to go over the boat to show us how everything worked. Lisa had all of our paperwork ready to go when we got there and we were in and out in less than 5 minutes. Lake Guntersville beautiful but recommend you rent a boat from another establishment. Friendly people, Tara was helpful BUT the pontoons are old , dirty, doors broken and we were lucky to get a pontoon with a working radio. The gas gauge want working and felt it was going to stop in the middle of the lake at one point. Made the best of it but would have enjoyed the lake more with a more updated clean functioning boat. My wife and I had never even ridden in a pontoon boat until we drove over 1800 miles to Gunterville Alabama. We had talked with John over the phone about one listed on Ebay and made plans to purchase that boat based upon description and condition and price. I made a deposit of $1,000 with the intent of seeing the boat and a sea trial to finalize the deal. When we arrived and saw the boat we were very disappointed. John at that point gave us some other options which included new ones he had in his yard. We decided not to exceed the amount we had planned to spend mostly due to lack of experience and our age which I explained to him. The option we decided on was a 2016 with a 2018 trailer and a 90 hp Yamaha. After we had finalized the deal I asked John to make sure it was ready to travel which he acknowledged he would. At the first rest stop we came to when I parked I notice water coming out the pontoons. I removed the plugs in the rear and water flowed for 45 minutes. I'm thinking, novice me I assumed that a 2016 boat would have good pontoons. I called John as asked what the deal was and his response was interesting, "the pontoons have plugs". Okay I know and asked again, did I buy a boat with bad pontoons? His response was "the boat has been sitting for a long time in the water." I didn't know anything about pontoon boats as I told John. I didn't suspect that the stop block bolted to the trailer would possible move if not tighted properly. Well, I noticed soon after we left John that the boat was sitting what seemed far back on the trailer. I got concerned and pulled off the interstate to see what was happening and in doing so eventually purchased a wrench when I could to check the u-bolts on the stop block finding out that they were loose. All that bouncing and banging explained. The boat had actually moved about 4 ft back. This explained the slide marks on the frame for the stop block. I tried to find a way to slide the boat forward after changing the position of the stop block by even spraying down the bunks to help it slide without success. On the Kansas turnpike toll road a tire on the rear axle blew out. The position of the boat on the trailer of course put more weight on the rear tires of the tandem axle trailer so I was monitoring the temp with my hands and about ever 150-200 miles and spraying them with water. I also stopped and had nitrogen put in all the tires including the spares. Upon finally getting home I communicated with John again with the following: I thought you ought to see what happened because of the way the boat was loaded and the stop block issue...photos. It's a wonder we made it home with the bad distribution of the weight caused a tire to blow also see additional pictures...." Curious what you think about this John. John's response; " The trailer was fit we both looked at it. I don't know what you have done since you have left here." Me; I didn't do anything but drive John, I was completely dependent on your knowledge and experience to make sure we could get home. If in fact it was as you say in the beginning then that leaves only one other possibility and that is that the u-bolts holding the boat stop were left loose which explains why it was twisted and when it bounced the one side got under the boat. The bolts were not tight by the way. I suppose you think I should have tested all the bolts before I left there? No response John's response; We have been in business for over 42 years! The boat was loaded here and checked over before you left. I don't know what you want me to say. Something must have shifted when you were transporting. I'm sorry that happened. Yes it is obviously things shifted and it was because someone there under your responsibility or you neglected to tighten the u-bolts after moving the stop block, obviously the trailer has been used on another boat. After all that, there is much much more such as not having a warranty on this boat because information about it's former use was not disclosed to us which would have kept us from buying this boat. Save yourself from the lack of good business ethics, practices and great expense by not buying from this dealer. Added 9/13/18.. I wish I knew how to add photos of what they did to cover up the seams in the interior so you can see it. They found Naugahyde close to the same color and had someone glue stripes made to look original over 9 seams which had separated to cover them up in order to sell the boat. read more

I just bought a boat from GUNTERSVILLE BOAT MART at 3374 Al. Hwy 69 Guntersville, Al. 35976 They also don't put there Dealer Name in the Craigslist ad. So be careful. I bought a 2006 Hurricane 195 w/150 Yamaha 4 stroke from them for 13,500 that is about what it was worth on the high end in good condition,, but no deal for a 2006 195. As soon as I got it home I unzipped the bimini top and it has a 2 ft hole in it. They said they knew about that and said sorry forgot to tell me about that and did NOTHING about it. Cost me $450.00 to replace. Then put it in the water 1 week later. this is what I found out wrong right away 1) Bimini top had a 2" hole in it 2) gas sending unit shot. 3) gauges didnt work 4) had a water leak dripping from one of the drain lines. If I didnt see it it would have sunk. 5) Bilge pump didnt work. 6) battery week had to replace. 7) anchor and radio gone once delivered Might be more wrong but i was only on the water 1/2 hour so didnt have a chance to check out the boat further before it died. To top it all off. Within the first 1/2 hour of driving it was chugging then died. Had to get towed back to dock. Called a mechanic to the dock another $100.00. Said the engine looked like it has sunk before, and would have to take it in. So towed back to ramp, and then took to his large Marina repair shop and it had a blown engine(one of the ports was had worn away photo attached) NEEDS new powerhead and midsection. I have not had it back in the water since the first day I got it. Need 6,000-7,000 worth of work on engine alone just to start it, and that is just to rebuild it not NEW powerhead that would be much more. And cant be driven. Guntersville Boat Mart said not thier problem. You bought it. And to get a second opinion. There is a hole in the side of the block, don't need another opinion, . Tough crap is what they tell me. They also told me they would sell be the parts to fix it. Ya right that sounds like another raw deal. I would even have take a small refund to help with repairs. Even 2,000 would have be nice, That is not even 1/3 the cost to fix it on the cheap end just to get it to run. They will not even call or email me back. I think that is fair since they probably made much more than that, this boat was not worth 1/2 of what I paid them for it. Once I put 7K into it. It will still only be worth 13.5K. They Pawned it off on me. And happy to do so. They are a YAMAHA dealers so you know they had the power to know this was a bad motor. Just put it on the computer would have told them. Terrible place of business. I have a new 2018 21 ft boat that I purchased a slip($1,600) and trailer storage($200) for the year. The boat was there about 6-8 weeks total. To start with, I called multiple times for a slip so they knew the size make and model of my boat. After purchasing a slip it was the "wrong one" for my boat on day of arrival. Luckily there was another slip that "would work." This slip broke within a week. We could not get the boat to come down out of the lift. The lifts support had somewhat broken and was swaying/leaning putting a bind on the cables. Had to cancel boating this day after standing around with guests for an hour so they could bring A-frames down another day to lift my boat out of the other lift to get it to another slip for a couple weeks. Finally my slip was "fixed". Looked good at first but after a day out on the water we pulled in and the gears turned but the cables didn't move. We called the office and someone came to assess after several minutes. They hadn't put a pin through the gear into the pole to which the cable wraps. We waiting for several more minutes while the guy went to find a bolt to fix the issue meanwhile we watched him go to the gas pumps and kinda "watch over" people using the pump while taking his time getting us situated so we can get the boat up in the lift. Because let me tell you it's a job holding the boat still in these slips to keep them from banging the metal deck( they have no rubber bumpers along the deck in slips). He finally got the bolt in and ran off quickly without saying a word even after expressing our appreciation. Soon we realized something else was up. The boat lifted but lifted sideways. After several attempts to get it straight we saw that they never screwed the poles guide down so when we were lifting the boat the pole walked(rolled) across the back beam causing the problem. Mind you this lift was "patched" together again as a fix. They placed a 2x6 across one side to help with the leaning and scabbed the back ibeam where it had broke. So again I called the office and was told to walk around and find someone to help. So I found the manager near the dock and let him know what was going on. He told me that he couldn't help because they had 5 other things going on right now and that I can't just come to him at 5 o'clock and get help and that I should just move it to another slip(extra slip made for a wide pontoon boat that had rope pulling the cables closer together to supposedly fit a 21 foot boat). I told him that we'd had nothing but problems there and I asked if I could get my money back. He chuckled a little and said there is no way as I signed a contract. We immediately packed up our storage box along with the boat. It was about a 1.5 hr ordeal that day. My boat will not be back there. To top it off, My NEW boat has several bad scratches where the fire hose straps come up the sides of the boat. These people were rude, didn't want to help, and your boat will get damaged here. So now I'm out $1,800 as they refuse to give a refund. Do not use this place unless you are a glutton for punishment, you hate your boat, you like playing musical boat slips, and you want to give away your money. read more

We rented two jet skis. The first one broke down within 30 minutes and the second was almost out of gas when we got it. We barely made it back. It took the people about 40 minutes to get us a replacement. Then, they wanted to charge us to fill up the empty one with gas......even though we got it empty. They were very rude about it. The one that they switched the broken one out for was an even older jet ski that wouldn't turn. We just took them both back with an hour and a half left. They didn't offer to make it right in any way. They didn't even seem to care. Other business people around that we talked to didn't seem surprised with our story. The man, I'm assuming the owner, didn't get out of his chair the whole time we were talking, he answered personal calls during the conversation. He and his staff tried to sell me a new boat and didn't' want to discuss just a motor. He asked about the boat I had and proceeded to tell me it was worthless and dangerous and I should buy a new one from him.
