Basically it's a lot of the characters from Charles Dickens novel A Christmas Story wandering around town in character. The town, which is charming on its own, was turned into a Charles Dickens wonderland. There were Dickens characters wandering through the town all willing to talk to you (in character) and take plenty of pictures. We got to hear Christmas music along the streets of the town and enjoy roasted chestnuts (free). My FAVORITE event of the day was the harp music. A wonderful concert with 22, yes I said 22 harps performing a magical concert. Also free. The weather I'm assuming prevented the horse drawn carriage rides from being available but that was ok. We really enjoyed everything else. The festival is every weekend between I think thanksgiving and Christmas. Well worth the trip from Buffalo. I used the word before but again I'll say it. Magical! The rooftop has solar panels- there will be food and drink up there once the weather warms up. 2nd floor has a cycling/spin room that has bikes that generate electricity and show how much you are generating. There are 2 wind turbines right behind the building. The plan is to have the entire building operate on alternative / renewable energy sources. This gallery is an absolute gem in downtown Skaneateles. It is just two small rooms tucked behind…read morethe library, but has a fascinating history. The gallery manager was wonderfully warm and welcoming. Even though we didn't take the tour, he graciously shared the history of the gallery, the life of John Barrow, and a bit about the curation of the pieces. It was fascinating to learn that Barrow never sold his artwork and legally mandated that many of the pieces in the second room and lower section of the first could never be moved or rearranged. Beyond being an influential local figure, Barrow didn't achieve much fame for his artwork, but certainly had an immense talent, which inspired a generation of artists. As was described to us, the artwork was "peaceful, pastoral, and bucolic" with landscape and nature scenes from around the Skaneateles area. The collection consisted of about 400 pieces, half of which were on display in the gallery and some of which were loaned out to benefactors homes through the aptly named "borrow a Barrow" program. You can easily see everything in much less than an hour, but it is definitely worth spending some time to admire the pieces and hear the stories behind them.

He gave a thorough and well explained journey of the artwork and all of its originality from Skaneateles.
