I found Rose Writers through the Long Beach Time Exchange and I am so happy I did! I found them at…read morethe time when I was just beginning to explore my writing, and what I found in Rose Writers was exactly what I needed - a supportive, fun, creative group of people I could feel comfortable enough with to truly pursue my writing. The prompts we write together every week are really provocative and encouraged me to go places I might not have gone on my own. As Desiree says, "Whatever you write today is what you're supposed to write!" It's such an amazing group led by a truly dedicated and passionate Desiree. Rose Writers was truly incredible for me because during the 6 weeks of meeting, I started writing my current manuscript. I am still working on it and it has expanded in form since then (Spring 2013). I cannot thank Rose Writers enough! They are such a wonderful part of the writing community in Long Beach! And even if you don't consider yourself a writer, you will feel welcome here because the motto at Rose Writers is "a writer is someone who writes." Also, I am a poet and most people are fiction writers, but it doesn't matter because everyone is welcome to write what they want to write. In fact, I think it even helped me expand on my own style. Rose Writers is so supportive and welcoming and exactly what the doctor ordered! Highly recommend to anyone looking for a place to share their writing in a safe space.

I had an AMAZING experience as a student at ALAI! This school provides an all star roster of…read morefaculty members and ensures their students receive nothing less than an exceptional education! Areej and Dabin were extremely helpful in guiding me through the student enrollment process. They were both friendly and informative and had the ability to answer all of my questions on the spot offering insight that this school was in fact the right decision for me. I felt extremely blessed to have Ms. D (Damaris) and Ms. Jeimy as my educators. Ms. D, my theory instructor was fun, informative and truly understands how people learn. By combining personal attention, inspirational teaching and a detailed course, I felt highly motivated in my confidence and desire to learn and grow. Ms. Jeimy was my technique instructor and worked along side me with a harmonious teaching style. She was extremely patient, informative and encouraged both my performance and confidence. Both of these instructors bring their passion, skills and real world experience with them to the classroom, focusing on passing their knowledge to their students. Thank you so much, I am forever grateful to you both! I also had the pleasure of getting to know Veronica and Sarah. Both enhancing the school with their positivity and kindness. I also want to give a special thanks to Ms. Sylvia who is the director of this school. She has gone above and beyond to assist me throughout my time during school and continues to do so even after graduating. The best schools not only offer great classes and teachers, but they also provide an abundant amount of support and guidance long after their educational program. Ms. Sylvia is a perfect example of this. To anyone who is interested in gaining the best education in an environment that feels like home, ALAI is the school for you!

They also do other facial treatments with laser machines; hair and tattoo removal; cosmetic beauty treatments like makeup tattoos, microblading, lash extensions... and many other medical spa services. All of it is pretty new to me, I just signed up for a basic facial. Anyhow, I think it's really cool there is an aesthetics vocational institute like this in San Antonio. They are fairly new in San Antonio, established in 2019. Everyone I met was super nice and seemed knowledgeable. So if you're interested in their professional training or to sign up for a treatment, check them out.

One star, because I can't go lower. You couldn't pay me enough to come back here- my hair is…read morefalling out in chunks after being over processed in bleach. I wanted so badly to leave a five start review, because the students, staff and instructor were kind...but my hair is snapping off and falling out. Staff refused to refund my money and now I'm stuck with overly processed, fake bleach blonde hair that I didn't want. I went in on Tuesday with some extensions and asked to be color matched. The student asked if I wanted to have lighter blonde or darker blonde- I told her "mmm, I don't know.. whatever you think would blend best". She said she would talk to her instructor and mix the color. Great! She comes back with the cost which was higher than I expected, but I agreed. I have naturally blonde hair and told her it would lift fast. She slathered my roots and ends in bleach and let it sit for 25 minutes. It felt like a long time, but I'm not in cosmetology so I trusted the process. I wish I had said something, but hindsight is always 20/20. The student washed me out, toned my hair, and sent me on my way. As I was driving home I touched my hair and my ends were snapping off all stringy and feeling like putty. I went home and showered and had hair falling out like crazy. The next day I was supposed to go back to get extensions. I told the students I was worried that the hair wouldn't match and was over processed and I was unhappy with it. The students agreed it wouldn't match and got their instructors to help me with toning. I told one of the instructors it was too blonde and she replied that she asked the student that did my color if I just wanted to do lowlights instead and I said that I wanted bleach blonde. Definitely would never ask for that as I know my natural color and I know bleach blonde wouldn't look good. Now I can see I was right. So since the student told the instructor the color is what I wanted, they wouldn't tone me. They said it looked fine and it would blend well once styled. Again- I trusted the process instead of my gut. I told them after the extensions were installed that I was still unhappy with the color and wanted it toned. They told me no that it looked great. After the instructors walked away, the students agreed it didn't blend and told me to get some toner and do it myself in a few days. The next morning I woke up and the extensions were already falling out. Some parts came untied, some had beads falling out, and other sections just simply slid down. I called and they refunded me for the extensions as my hair is falling out and they agreed they couldn't reinstall the extensions. They did, however refuse to refund the cost of coloring my hair since I didn't want to go back and have them color over it again. I explained I have bald spots and couldn't afford to have any more hair come out. They said their policy is only to fix the hair and not refund. I get the policy, but also if you over process my hair to the point it's falling out then I think a refund is in order. Be so cautious coming here and be overly specific with what you want/ don't want.
