My 9 year old niece had her first art class here on Saturday. Because of our circumstances I had to…read morestay the two hours for the class. Although I stayed in the back I eavesdropped often to see how my niece was doing. Jocelynn is amazing with her young students. She engages with them in a way that they all seem to really enjoy; she jokes, she tells stories, she listens to them. In the middle of class she gives them a small break and does an art history lesson. I think it's wonderful that students get to see works of great artists. They talk about and discuss the work of the artist being discussed while eating a snack. She sells art supplies in her studio at a fraction of the price you'd get at the store, and she didn't push me to buy. As a matter of fact I really wanted to buy supplies and she told me to hold off until my niece was sure she wanted to stick with it and was comfortable. My niece had a good experience. Although she's an amazing self-taught artist Jocelynn taught her the correct way to use pencils and how that she should draw what she sees not what's in her head. There was a little bit of a back and forth with my niece insisting that she was doing it the right way but I'm telling you Jocelynn has the patience of Job. And I'm sure she's used to dealing with artists who are stuck in their ways (even if they are only 9 years old). But all in all she enjoyed the class. Jocelynn gave her individual attention (I don't know how but all of the students received one on one time with her). Watching and listening to Jocelynn and my niece in class confirmed that getting her into an art class is the right decision because it has to be easier to develop good habits as an artist now than later.

I've had the privilege of studying with Jocelynn for 4 years and have learned a great deal from her. She is an experienced oil artist and sculptor and uses her many talents to instruct students in a variety of mediums in every class. I began instruction with Jocelynn as an adult learner, kids out of the house, and my only experience was drawing with a No. 2 pencil. Jocelynn has taught me how to see, how to draw, to work with values, with dark and light. She has taught me color theory, and how to use it in a composition. I have learned to work in charcoal and chalk, oils, and pastel pencils. Jocelynn is very reasonably priced, making classes very accessible and enabling me to afford to take two and sometimes three two-hour class per week. My Studio LLC has been a real find for me! As a young child I attended the Summer Arts camp, and as I got older I took pottery and comics classes in the youth art department. This center houses a culture of passion for the arts and helping the community as there is an active scholarship program to assist less financially fortunate families.

The walls displayed a nice variety of art pieces, for example, paintings, photos and artistic collages. I attended a "men's Christmas gift" event, complete with a "pop-up bar" for tasting fine bourbons and beer - super fun. There were at least 5 handmade jewelry artists displaying and discussing their work. I was pleasantly surprised to find several pieces that will make fine gifts! Stopped back with my wife last night and found the staff were preparing for another event "art walk" which included wine tasting and cheese plate. The jewelry was displayed in glass cases and an awesome array of wall art, really world-class. The local artists can be contacted to see additional work if you like their style. So nice to know this is right in downtown Medford!

His framing studio is transformed after hours. He pushes back some of the displays and makes room for tables and easels. People filter through, bringing food and drinks to share, works in progress to continue, and art supplies in tow. It's a chill vibe and low-pressure way to scratch creative itches. Many paint, others work with other mediums like charcoal. Jim bounces from student to student offering help and critique, helping you figure out how to solve a problem you're having with your piece as you go. He has a room of art supplies you can buy from if you run out of something or need something else, which is super convenient. If you're new to art or to a medium, Jim has some trials and process to how he helps folks build up the basics. Everyone in the class has done them before graduating to painting.
