The members are all really great people with different levels of experience. Many of the members compete in IBJJF Championships, Pan Am's & World's Competitions, very often medaling. Our 5 year old has been in his class since April and has learned a lot and has made friends with all the kids. I stay for the class, there is plenty of seating for parents and coach interacts with everyone and makes jokes, we're laughing a lot. The kids get plenty of water breaks and each class usually ends with sparring. I have tried the adult class and never did jiujitsu in my life. It doesn't matter what level you're at when you join a class, coach and other people training will help you. While I haven't signed up for jiujitsu yet I have joined the morning conditioning workouts on M, W, & F mornings. It is an hour of intense training that includes running, high intensity intervals, and strength training with weights and body weight. I love it! I have been doing it since May and plan to continue inevitably :-)

I wanted to find a studio which focuses on fundamentals and safety. I attended several gyms in my search and what I found were large class sizes and almost no time with the instructor. I actually re-injured my back while my partner and I were trying to figure out the technique on our own. During my first class at Solid Base my experience was exactly the opposite. I had direct exposure to the instructor during the entire session. What separates this studio from many others is that ALL classes are taught by a BJJ Black belt. In my experience you typically have to pay for individual sessions to have exposure to a black belt, while one of their students host the class. Not to mention that few people have the BJJ resume that Ricardo has (Abu Dhabi world Pro Jiu Jitsu championship COME ON!). It is rare to have a player of that level in your backyard. To be honest I would pay double for what I am getting at the gym. I would encourage anyone to come down to the gym and get a feel for the sport. It is addicting....be warned! Also they offer 30 days free. Best deal around.
