A walk by a…read morecreek The Birch Plain Creek Wildlife Area is a pleasant place for an easy hike or walk by the water. Birch Creek is a salt marsh estuarine system that attracts all kinds of large aquatic birds and other critters. The creek is tidal and the amount of water varies at lot depending on the tides so it can look quite different depending on when you go. Sometimes the coolest things are seen at very low tide when the creepy critters that live on the bottom are visible. The area has several miles of hiking in the woods and depending on the time of year can be extremely over grown with dense foliage and always infested with both mosquitoes and nasty flies that love this type of environment. Or course ticks are a constant menace in the warm weather. Not a large place for a strenuous workout but a pleasant little place to see the wetlands and the critters and plants that live there. Probably best in the late fall or winter when the horrid biting insects and ticks die off but interesting all year long.

This park is located off of a residential neighborhood in Groton, close to the coast and with hiking and cycling trails. One of the issues with this park is that none of the trails are really blazed, so although there's a trail map, there are a lot of deer paths and twisty trails that make navigation difficult. Rain makes this a little more tricky. We were there to see the Canopy Rock, which is a historical landmark, the site of a religious revival. Sadly, the rock is covered in graffiti, which was really disappointing. I plan on coming back to give this park another chance, because what we saw was interesting, but the rain really forced us to cut our visit short.

There are several loops in this place that you can loop around different sections. You may get turned around a little only because there are so many loops but just keep your eye on the pond and you won't get lost. I recommend thisplace. It's very easy walk. My friend and I walked around for about an hour and a half half or so just taking in all of the scenery. We definitely plan to come back here in May or June when the mountain is at its peak because there is so much mountain Laurel here. I think that will be stunning at this time of year. I also want to come back in September October to watch the colors of the leaves change. The parking is off street parking. There are signs for two hour parking. I did not see any charged parking, but it looks like you can park on both sides of the roads up and down the street.

The paths aren't paved but to be expected in this environment - very natural wooded area. If walking isn't what you are looking for there is space to spread out and have a picnic (no tables) overlooking some small ponds. This place is easily accessed from a Williams Street. Many of the addresses online have you enter through the gates on Monhegan Ave, you won't be able to access the arboretum here. Had to up on theto drive back out to the main road and drive to the other side of campus where you can access the arboretum. Easily found free 2-hour street parking. Not sure how easy it would be during the academic year but it wasn't an issue when I went but spots had definitely filled in by the time I got back to the car. Looking forward to coming back and this time more prepared to fully experience this wonderful spot!

Beautiful Campground with Spacious Sites!…read more We had a really nice camping experience at Rocky Neck State Park Campground. Arrival and check-in were very smooth. We actually decided to arrive a day earlier than our original reservation, and they were able to accommodate us as a walk-in and combine the extra night with our existing reservation, which made everything very easy. Firewood is available right outside the check-in area for about $7, and you get a pretty good-sized bundle. Our campsite was in the S section, and we really liked our spot. The sites are spacious with plenty of room for your setup, and each has a picnic table and fire ring. There are lots of beautiful trees throughout the campground, but keep in mind that you are not allowed to hang anything from them. One thing to know is that the campsites are fairly close together, so there isn't much privacy between neighboring sites. That was probably my least favorite part of the campground. However, the sites themselves are large enough that we never felt cramped. Our site was conveniently located near one of the bathroom and shower buildings (Seagull or Osprey, I can't remember which one), and the facilities were clean. There was also water nearby, which was very convenient for tent camping. The bathroom situation in the tent area could definitely use some improvement. The nearby pit toilets were closed during our stay, leaving portable toilets as the closest option. There is also a building near the tent camping area that looks like it could potentially be renovated into additional bathrooms or showers. Having working restroom and shower facilities closer to the tent sites would make a big difference, especially since the existing facilities can be a bit of a walk. Parking is another thing tent campers should be prepared for. Depending on your site, it can be a hike from the parking area to your campsite. If you're bringing a lot of camping gear and don't want to make multiple trips back and forth, I strongly recommend bringing a wagon! The campground itself is beautiful and very clean, and staff come through the area regularly. There is plenty of parking, and another big plus is that there is no additional campground charge for visitors. The other downside for us was the noise. Even after the 10 PM quiet time, there was still quite a bit of activity and noise from some campers. In the tent area, you can also hear cars traveling on the road behind the campground as well as the train when it passes. This may be more noticeable because Rocky Neck is a busy beach campground, but it's something to keep in mind if you're looking for a very peaceful and quiet camping experience. Overall, we had a wonderful stay. Rocky Neck State Park Campground is beautiful, clean, convenient, and offers spacious campsites. A little more privacy between sites, better enforcement of quiet hours, and improvements to the restroom and shower facilities near the tent camping area would make the experience even better.

I thought all the dinosaurs were super impressive and love how they setup the whole walking trail. There is a ton of shade, so even if you go when it's super hot you'll be fine! I appreciate all the ferns that they planted around, makes it feel "authentic" with all the dinos. For my dino obsessed five year old he loved seeing all the variety of dinosaurs and even some more obscure ones that he knew and you never see at spots like this. They did a great job of putting some dinosaurs into "scenes" and simply showcasing others with facts and more info. My son isn't into splash pads, but that splash pad looked like a ton of fun. The climbing area was also huge and looked like fun. My five year old stuck to walking around and going through the maze 15 times. The maze is simple, but fun and a nice addition to the park. What I like about this park is it's great for kids of all ages! Probably from at least 3-10 and even older if your child is super into dinosaurs or you are an adult who loves dinos!
