Largest selection of outdoor clothing and shoes that I've ever seen in one place. Don't miss it.

Not your full blown REI or Gander Mountain, but it's a definite must stop resupply while passing through Hot Springs.

My husband packed for our trip to black mountain in a rush and forgot to put his shorts in his bag…read more I'm sure they are sitting on our bed back in Charlotte, meanwhile it's in the 80s in Black Mountain this week. On a recommendation from our super nice server at The Open Oven restaurant, we stopped in to Take a Hike to grad a pair from him. We we happy to see that they allow pets/dogs in the store so that one of us wasn't stuck in the car with the pups. The store has tons of great clothes, shoes, socks and other supplies you might want for hiking. Big names like Prana, North Face, Patagonia etc. He got a pair of shorts from the clearance section and I found a handy Kavu sling purse. Win-win

Great local outdoor store. Love shopping local and how chill this place is…read more Upon entering, staff always greet you. Small town feels. There is typically plenty of parking in the lot or nearby. Standard small town hours. The shop is clean and organized. They have a good sampling of outdoor gear. Lots of seasonal clothing, some camping gear and backpacks and some Knick knacks such as hydration tabs and stickers. There is a sale rack in back. Everything is very pricy as goes with outdoor gear shops especially small ones. I would still argue that it's pretty similar to the standard- not more expensive than REI or the like. I'd definitely recommend this place for a stop in. They have a nice curated selection. Plus it's always the season for a fun new outdoor toy to inspire you to get outside ;)

Hands down, this was a complete experience and a must see when visiting Asheville. It is a relic…read morefrom the old days when general stores literally were just that and generally had everything. The place is massive and is located in the major retail and dining section, so park where you can. I went in there specifically for some snacks, but walked out with clothes, food, syrup, honey, and much more. They have multiple registers so it was a fast check out despite this place always appearing to be crowed. Also, they have a basement that looks more like a legit retail/clothing store than a general store and they also had a bunch of antiques around too. I was in awe of the old school cash register. Again, this is a must see and is great for the kids because of the authentic and homemade sweets and treats.

I love a general store, and Mast General Store is a good one. They've amassed so many goods -- and…read moreit's on two levels. There's clothing, decorations, foodstuffs, barrels of candy, toys, souvenirs... I spent so much time on the first floor I didn't even go down to the lower level so I have no idea what's even down there. I even bought some clothes -- what I will now refer to as my Pioneer Woman outfit -- totally not my style but so soft and comfortable. Bring the whole family -- the kids will enjoy the large toy and candy section -- and I didn't even look at the large Mast-branded jams, jellies and jarred food section because I wouldn't be able to fit them in my suitcase. Definitely make this a stop on your AVL trip.

He gave us instructions before we began and settled our nerves. We did end up tipping the right side of our boat and three passengers went into the water but because Bart had told us what to do the other passengers were able to pull two guests in and Bart pulled me in. I was really worked up with adrenaline and I was on the verge or hyperventilating and he calling talked my breathing back to a steady pace. The rest of our trip was amazing and I was actually very happy we topped early into the trip to see it was ok and I could enjoy our trip. He was great explaining a lot about the area and the effects Helena had on the area due to flooding. If you can request a guide request BART! It was an amazing day!

We did the upper pigeon river and due to a lot of flooding in don't think we were able to go the normal route but again, not a big deal. We had a great time with our other riders and it was a really cool experience. We've done rafting that was a bit more extreme as this was supposed to be but again, due to the floods. We still had an amazing time and it was so thanks to Tia! Great personality and kept us very entertained.
