This is a review for Dr. Donnell Hansen, who did a full mouth extraction of my 20 year old cat years ago at the Blaine location of BluePearl. My cat had a heart murmur and was geriatric when we did this surgery. I was so grateful that BluePearl had a cardiologist to evaluate the heart murmur before surgery. Dr. Hansen was excellent from the moment I met her until the end. It was a long day in Blaine, but the receptionists told me about a cafe that had nice breakfasts. That helped me stay calm. My cat went through the surgery without event, although she did manage to lightly scratch her cornea on the mesh of her carrier because she was still under the effects of anesthesia. A prescription from my cat's regular vet for antibiotic ointment cleared it up. Dr. Hansen was careful, compassionate, brilliant, and diligent. She even spotted a growth in my cat's mouth, which thankfully was benign. This was a very high risk surgery for my cat at her age, with kidney disease and a heart murmur. My cat was in pain, so I had no choice but to do it. Dr. Hansen's expertise gave us the best chance of success and I'm so grateful it was successful. My cat has since passed at age 22.5. I'm so glad her last few years were painless and she could eat to her heart's delight. Dr. Hansen is a real gem of a veterinarian. I was very lucky to have her operate on my cat. read more

They gave her a quality of life assessment and then shared their results with us. The vet didn't make the decision, but was right there answering all the hard questions for us. I had never had to put a pet down before. My 18-year-old cat, Charlie, was failing due to his age. I was referred to Blue Pearl in Blaine as they had a walk-in policy on Saturday. Before bringing him in, they explained the entire process to me over the telephone, so I was well prepared. When we arrived, they took Charlie and prepped him for the procedure. They put us humans in a cozy and comfortable room where we could spend as much time with Charlie as we needed. The vet then came in to perform the procedure. It was a much better experience than I had anticipated. He went to sleep peacefully. Everybody at Blue Pearl was very kind and compassionate and, about a week later, I received a nice card in the mail with Charlie's paw prints, which I appreciate appreciated very much. we brought our daughter dog here and at checkout were told exam and x ray would be $783 then after waiting 4 hours we actually saw a vet. we again authorized exam and xray and was given an estimate of between $1035-1365. in the end the bill was $1600. this practice lacks integrity and transparency while taking advantage of pet owners. asked for explanation without a response. read more

Treated me and my wife and our sick dog like we were outsiders, we are taxpayers caring for our dog, my lil dog was really bloated and tender and very depressed, we waited for 2 hours even tho is was me and one other only two dogs to be seen and they took so long to the point where my dog had to pee on my wife's pants, the veterinarian saw and did even budge to get napkins or anything to help us clean it up , EVEN the veterinarian didn't touch the pup without payment. Even though we paid for an exam cost! We paid 280 bucks just to sit in the room for 2 hours just for them not to even give us advice how to care for our dog at home. There was a dog in the other room with diarrhea issues and they was very helpful to help the other people and giving them advice and actually interacting with their dog but NOT with mine, they got treated 1st ps. They immediately took me to a room and asked me what was going on with him. I explained his symptoms, deep down I knew he had no more life left to give. They were extremely caring and helpful in my time of need. (I was alone) They gave me a little doorbell to ring. I had a vet tech sitting with me until I was ready to push the button for them. The worst vet I have ever met! The vet and vet tech had no compassion at all. The vet talked over us so we were all taking at one time and did not allow us to ask questions. Rushed us out so fast we didn't even understand what she was doing she did not want questions. This was MY time even tho they were busy. I paid good money for her to spend time with my husband and my self. She came across as rude an non communicative with much disrespect towords us. We waited over 6 hours to get in to see her and then were rushed out asap. She didn't even give the dog an examination. We are in our mid 70's and husband had to come with who has dementia, I have had a heart transplant. We had to wait 2 more hrs. after the first 5-6 hrs waiting to see the vet. The vet gave the reason that they would test (xray, labs/ultrasound) but had to send xrays out to be read. My own vet knows how to read xrays he learned this in school. This is ridiculous! They need to get a vet who is educated in reading an xray as our regualar vet is. We did not have a choice to do labs first, too save money, they made all decisions for us. No options. Our Yorkie had vomit/diarreahea with blood. I asked for a stool test for parasites and other things that can be found in stools to be done first with the labs. The tech said no the vet would not do this. I insisted and said its my dog I want a stool test. They should have done this first along with labs. It would have cost a lot less. It turns out after 1,800.00 it was a bad bacteria in the stool. I asked the vet to speak slower 2x since I told her that I read lips and wear hearing aids. She did not. She was a monster and the vet tech was a robot. No facial expressions, no empathy, nothing. Just give us our money is all this agency wants. Its a huge organization/coporate agency with no one to watch what is being done or to complain to and it doesn't even exsist in our state. They need to hire 2 competent vets or hire one to work and one to be on call when busy. So humans do not have to wait 6-8 hrs in an office with nothing to do, eat or drink and no food machines, just junk food. No tea, just coffee/co-co and water. The receptionist was not nice at first but after a while she was. They left the dog with out any water all 6 hours while waiting to see this vet and then they said the dog was dehydrated and charged us for IV liquids for the dog. I will never take my dog there agian when this same vet is here. In the past I have had a good exp. with BP but not this time. HIRE ANOTHER VET!!! NO EXCUSES for this kind of BAD BEHAVIOR and WAIT and EXPENSE!!! Corporate GREED once again! Getting so we cannot affored to own a dog. Very sad. This company need to be looked into. Its a bad one. Our normally healthy ShihTzu was acting unusual and having trouble sleeping, so we called our local vet. This is during the COVID-19 outbreak, and after hours, so we decided to take her to Blue Pearl in Blaine. What a fiasco! You have to sit in your car, communicate by phone with the staff, and if you should need to leave the place anytime during this process to go to a gas-station bathroom- they will move your pet to the back of the line behind all other pets. One lady in her 50's who was parked beside us actually wet herself rather than leave her cat who was very ill and possibly close to death. Hey eyes wee swollen and her cheeks were wet from tears. We noticed this as this lady walked from her car back to the main entrance of the building to talk with employees. It was devastating to watch. If a Vetranarian office has these confining policies, the least they can do is have portable restrooms in the parking lot for customer use. I am writing this review as we are still sitting in the car (going on 4 hours now), waiting for our pet to be seen by the vet. Once our pet is returned back to us, I will never be back to BluePearl, nor can I in good conscience recommend them to any other pet owner in need of after hour services. read more

If I can help it, I'll never go back here. I'm glad they ended up taking my pup ultimately and so I thanked them. But when I walked into the clinic at 5:30 with a dog with gaping skin wound from a dog bite, I was told they didn't know if they could take her because they close at 7:00--Like I had just showed up at a restaurant 10 minutes before closing. They were not remotely compassionate at the front desk and I was treated like I was inconveniencing their easy Sunday evening with a poorly timed emergency. The doctor was kind. They took care of her quickly. She seemed incredibly shooken up when I picked her up (way more than when I dropped her off). It could have just been the sedation, but based on the way I was treated, I'm not hopeful they were real nice to my dog either. read more

With my daughter away at college but needing to have closure with saying good bye to her furry sister, I was happy that my primary vet shared this clinic to me so I could get her in to get fluid injections in order to keep her alert, comfortable, and not lethargic from kidney failure. The facility is clean, easy access-located in Blaine, with a big reception area for sunlight and loving decor of furry patients on the walls. The reception staff was calm and comforting. Very friendly and caring. The whole staff from greeting to behind the scenes were heaven sent. Dr. Alex gave me the good and bad of the situation. He was compassionate and I appreciated his advice on further treatment for her. Although more treatments are to come, he was also honest enough to tell me we could wait until after the weekend to do some treatments (lowering the cost factor for me due to week/weekend pricing) but advised me not to wait much longer to follow up with how to fight this disease we are dealing with. The techs in the back (one shown here) even shared stories of how Tyra was dancing while wagging her tail flirting with them in the back room falling in love with her playful personality. This is an "emergency" clinic so I was happy they checked her vitals and prioritized her condition. I'm sure other customers may not have been happy with that but I appreciate the "urgency" Yes, prices were a little higher than waiting for the weekday. Makes sense to me. Our dog was having trouble breathing with something stuck in his throat. We called BluePearl Blaine and headed there only to find out the address in google is incorrect and they have moved to a location 17 minutes away. The Coon Rapids location was closest so the lady said to go there and she would call them. Upon arrival at the Coon Rapids location, they had not received a call and they had zero sense of urgency in getting our dog in. Instead of taking our dog in first, they made us sit in our car to gather our information. When they finally took him back to "take his vitals" they called us back and said he wasn't showing any signs of choking or trouble breathing so we took him back and immediately noticed he was still dry heaving. Thankfully our dog was still able to breathe and we took him elsewhere. I would NOT recommend BluePearl for any service, especially if you are having a serious pet emergency. read more

We had to put our sweet old lady down yesterday (a Sunday). BluePearl was the nearest open clinic to us. The first staff to help us was great and honest about her condition at that time. We made the very hard decision to put her down. They took her to the back to get an IV into her arm and check vitals. We were in a neighboring room to wait for her and get our last moments. While waiting, we heard our old lady barking which we expected because she LOVES her dad and was confused on what was going on. During this time while she was in the back, we then heard staff yelling at her to "shut up", we knew it was at her because they were using her name too. I just can't stomach how scared she may have been and no one to comfort her in that short time away from her family. Thankfully, they brought her in and we had some time before the vet came in with the euthanasia. During this time she seemed to calm down quite a bit but was still shaking. I like to think she was happy surrounded by family during her very last moments. But was heartbreaking to hear staff during that difficult time. We loved her and always will, she was a protector, tennis ball lover, and best to cuddle. If I was stronger in that moment, we probably would have taken her back and just gone somewhere else with more compassion for our furry loved ones. read more

I wish I could give two separate reviews. The staff and everyone there except one receptionist and the veterinarian: 5 stars. So friendly, supportive, accommodating and patient. We had an unexpectedly very sick dog in the ICU with them for 4 days. We called often to check in, had a handful of questions, and visited often. Most of the receptionists and all the vet techs were great. So helpful, sweet, obviously enjoyed our dog. Even after discharge, I had accidentally emailed then instead of another vet a question and they were so quick to answer! Our vet was Dr Cunningham and I give her 2 stars. She seemed knowledgeable and like she cared about dogs. I was very put off by how she interacted with my husband and I. I can fully admit we had a lot of questions as we were a little shell shocked when she told us our dog who we had thought was perfectly healthy one day prior now had weeks to live. She pretty much dropped that bomb on us, got up, and left. Not to play this card, but, I cant help to mention that I'm a physician and I NEVER would do that after giving awful news. I dont care how behind I am in office, I would spend at least a FEW minutes with the family. She was practically halfway out the door when she said that, leaving us lost and sobbing. It continued to be poor care from her. We knew someone who helped us get a vet (who was a "legend expert" on our dog's condition) involved to co-manage. (I know this sounds weird, but the vet we're now at-the University of MN- was amazed by the fact that he got to co-manage with this vet, so I guess she really is an expert!) We brought this up to Dr Cunningham and prefaced it that it had nothing to do with our mistrust in her care but more that we just wanted to exhaust all options we had to help our dog. She was obviously put off, rolled her eyes, and her response was that "this isn't exactly an abnormal diagnosis, I deal with this all the time and know what I'm doing". We ended up going to the U of M. When we brought it up to them, they were so open to this suggestion, immediately sent records to this expert, and praised us for doing what we could for our dog. Were they secretly put off and annoyed? Perhaps, even though we tried to make sure they knew it wasn't in offense to them. But if they were annoyed, we never knew it. We've enjoyed the U-see review of them-and have been so impressed. In the end, we never went back to Blue Pearl. I've heard really good things about OTHER vets there, but we just were so put off by her and couldn't handle how rude she was to us. I feel like part of healthcare for humans or dogs are to help the family feel comfortable as possible with what is going on, and she did the opposite. We will miss the vet techs-they all were amazing and took such great care of our pooch as well as helping us feel comforted with what was going on. read more

Despite less than happy news this visit, this was his best place for honest results and options My little dog Trucker has gone through a lot, and even with that, Blue Pearl has been the best choice for him. It's tough when your pet has issues, but the professionals here help to find the answers, and give the options for treatment. So glad we chose Blue Pearl. We had a great experience at Blue Pearl in Blaine! Our cat, Bruce, had an obstruction in his bladder and we had to bring him in twice for this issue over the weekend. The first time he was having trouble urinating but was not obstructed. They kept him overnight for observation and we picked him up in the morning with medications and instructions on what to watch for since it was likely he would eventually be fully obstructed. I called five hours later since he still has not gone potty and was very uncomfortable. I brought him back and confirmed he was obstructed. They gave us a few options of treatment with detailed quotes so we could make the best decision for our family. Obviously we wanted to give him the best care possible but we had to be extremely budget conscious and I felt they were extremely respectful of that which I appreciated. We were able to get him everything he needed under budget. Since he was there for 36 hours between the two visits we got calls from each vet after their shift with updates on Bruce and the plan for the next shift. Each vet was very informative and we were comfortable with the plan each step of the way. All of the techs and folks at the front desk were very nice. I know Bruce was a crabby guy but he is on the mend at home and going potty, eating and getting plenty of love. Thank you so much! read more

If you're looking for money hungry people who don't care about your pet, this is the place to go! Waited over 5 hours while they let other people come in and be seen first because our pet was "stable" even though I called before I came and they said it was slow at that time and we were the only ones there when we arrived. I had brought my kitten in because she had diarrhea for months that I had been trying to correct at my normal vet but then one day she was drooling a lot and was weak and wouldn't eat or drink. It was past normal vet hours which is why we decided to bring her here. When she finally was seen, I told the vet that she has had chronic diarrhea, been drooling and I also pointed out a weird bump on her belly that I had noticed. The vet didn't really say anything about the bump and said that my kitten is nauseous and that's why she's drooling so she gave her some medication for that. She didn't say why my kitten might be nauseous though. Then she did an X-ray but it wasn't very clear because there was apparently fluid in my kittens abdomen. Fluid is one of many symptoms of FIP but it is also symptoms of other things but based off that one symptom, the vet said that my kitten has FIP and I should consider euthanizing her. She still didn't have any explanation for the drooling. We paid their very high price and left that night and brought our kitten home. Because of this vets "diagnosis" of FIP, we started treating our kitten for FIP which takes about 3 months. We only had about 3 weeks left of treatment but still hadn't seen much improvement so I scheduled an ultrasound at my regular vet where they found a cancerous mass on her spleen which was the cause of the drool, nausea, diarrhea, fluid, etc. We then scheduled surgery immediately to remove the mass but it was too late. When they opened her up, they discovered that the cancer had spread to her liver and there's not much they can do at that point so they closed her up and sent her home with us. We will be putting her down soon just like bluepearl wanted! If you care about your pet, do NOT bring them here. read more

Initially was very pleased with my service. I was referred to Blue Pearl for a procedure and testing that could not be done through my veterinary clinic. I received a detailed email regarding the initial visit and the testing that was done. But getting the final results to the tests is where Blue Pearl fell short in customer service. I received a call from a tech about a week after our initial visit, giving me high lights of the test results and stating that Dr Myers would call me in 1-2 days to review results and a treatment plan. After 1 week, I had not received a call back and ended up getting the details from a tech. In my opinion, for the cost of services at Blue Pearl, I deserve a call from the veterinarian. read more

My golden retriever got hit by a car so I brought her here because it was the closest option. I wasn't thrilled or impressed with BluePearl. They wouldn't let me back to see my dog (ever) until she was ready to leave! In my opinion, that is just not cool with me. My dog was in distress and pain and that was only made worse by being separated from me. They were very expensive. $130 for the initial exam $85 for injectable pain meds right when we got there $500 for a two area X-ray (which I waited 3+ hours for and they couldn't tell if her femur was broken or not! And just said she has "a few" hip fractures) They wanted to keep her overnight for pain management ($1000) and then take more xrays in the morning.... then when I pushed against that, they came back and said they wouldn't be able to get more clear pictures for a week. The vet seemed very judgmental for my choice to take her home, which I didn't appreciate during a time of high distress. One admin and the vet referred to my dog as a "thing". But the admin staff and vet techs were very nice! read more

I had to bring my cat here. Very organized. Great staff. My cat had to stay the weekend. Had to do all the basic tests-X-rays, blood work, urinalysis and wait for the ultra sound technician to show up on Sunday. All tests showed good. Waiting on the urinalysis. I was told should be by the middle of the week. My cat isn't eating or drinking. Vomits spit/phlegm, the white stuff. If he won't start eating and drinking his organs will start to shut down and I'll lose him. With all these tests showing nothing wrong we have nothing to treat. We need this urinalysis soon, in case it shows something then we can fix it, if his organs aren't shutting down yet. It's been the full week. No results yet on the urinalysis. If my cat hasn't been eating and drinking this full week, and his organs are starting to shut down, it's going to be too late if the urinalysis shows something that we can try to treat and help him. My complaint? Very disappointed that the urinalysis test didn't come back sooner. I understand it may take more time, but it really could be life or death. Another complaint: expensive for me. I thought it to be pricey. However, I have to do what I can for my fur baby. Another complaint: the staff never called to check on us, ask how we're doing, if he's eating now or not. Nothing. I feel to have a follow up call to see how we're doing would be very kind and caring. I find this to be cold hearted. After all, this is an emergency vet, therefore to reach out after our emergency visit should be a priority. read more

We called and they said the wait was four hours, but we were in and out in an hour and forty minutes. Had to bring our cat in for emergency treatment. My husband was there waiting for more than 3 hours. The vet was very good at explaining the situation but also very blunt and cold, even mentioning euthanasia, which was totally shocking. Kept trying to feel me out for how much I would be willing to pay to save her. Very upsetting and traumatic during a very vulnerable time. I was so devastated by how he described her situation that I was afraid to answer the phone. That was yesterday, and today she is back home, jumping up on the couch, eating, going to the litter box. How does one go from euthanasia to nearly normal in less than 24 hours? So grateful that she is recovering but never want to go back unless I absolutely have to. read more

Referred to Blue Pearl for Pickle's diabetes which she acquired several months ago. The ancillary staff are wonderful and caring. The Veterinarian, Dr. Teichner is excellent and has a wonderful "bedside manner" with his patients and their owner's. I can never say enough good things about the Blue Pearl in Blaine. After reading another review I find it hard to believe that there was no "follow up" by their staff as after every appointment which was over 8, there was a follow up call, "Hello, this is ****** at Blue Pearl and wondering how Pickles is doing?" As far as expense, yes specialized care is expensive and I do suggest that people carry Pet Insurance with such as Pet Pal like I do and so appreciate. read more

Like someone else brought up I'd love to do a split review. My first visit went very well (they were a little late on getting my dog in but I know they were busy). I first talked with the Dr. Assistant and was very happy. Then talked with the oncologist who was fantastic! Now the bad part...on trying to make an appointment to see the surgeon ( my dog has bone cancer) I called and had to leave a message...waited two days heard nothing...then sent in a email with a request for a call....nothing!!! Whatever you do, do not bring your pet to this place. First off, they are nationwide and aren't even BBB accredited. Secondly and most importantly, our little baby girl who is a beagle had her first seizure today which was absolutely terrifying. Her front legs weren't working and she appeared to be going unconscious as she shook dramatically. When I called, obviously worried and stressed, they asked a few basic questions but then Right from there went to payment amounts and everything. I told her I didn't care about that right now and she replied (after wasting a minute) that they aren't taking patients right now because they are under staffed!! I hung up. That was the Blaine MN location. We flew to the Coon Rapids location, got there, and bc of Covid we had to stay in our car and call the office line. Which is fine. But, the front desk said that they are limiting the amount of vets, pets, and owners that can be in there. She then said also bc her seizure stopped, it's not an emergency. As I asked about what if it happens again, she cut me off rudely and said it would be a 3-4 hour wait! Whatever you do, trust me, do not go to this place. I have another story on this place as well that I am not going to get into. But, trust me when I say that this place is no good for people who truly love their pets, bc they certainly don't. I brought my 14 year old Dachshund to BP when his back legs gave out. I have had this happen to both of my dogs, and experienced getting medication for them ASAP can be critical to their level of recovery. I know during COVID procedures and waiting times are expected to take longer. I was in their parking lot for 7 hours! I did leave to go to the bathroom (twice, but on cell phone contact). Once they brought my dog in, it was another 4+ hours waiting. I just can't believe this is the case for all clinics. I understood there was urgent life saving cases that came in. I feel that the staff could have been better in COMMUNICATION on wait times and let someone go home once they have your pet inside (waiting on the list). If we are to have cell phone visits with our vet, then the clinic can contact us to have the waiting process a little less painful. Very uncaring they kept telling me that they wouldn't help my dog with her tooth issues but if checked her in overnight they would give an estimate with their dental staff which would cost another $154 on top the $154 just to walk in the door after that then they would do the x-ray that was another $500 and they said it would probably be several thousand dollars and that had to be paid up front. Then they started saying that they would need to do blood work tonight that was going to be another $300-$400. They are also very slow i kept trying to leave first they would not give me my dog back they wanted to do more consultations for more charges about an hour after I saw the vet they gave me dog back another half hour to get the meds then another 20mins paying then have them fix the bill because they were trying to charge me double for the first consult I got the feeling that the vet I saw didn't care if we had the surgery or put her down as long as she got paid. read more

I took my 6 month old German Shepherd there with a twisted intestine. I knew what it was prior to taking him in there. Dogs die from this if surgery is not done promptly. Diagnosis was confirmed by x-ray but Vet wanted to wait until a radiologist could confirm the condition. I was told a radiologist had responded and my boy should have surgery as soon as the radiologist called. THREE HOURS later the vet called to tell me he had just started the surgery. For 3 hours my pup laid on a table suffering in a strange place with strange people. The vet said he couldn't save him and he was put down. When I asked for Blue Pearl Corporate contact info I was referred to their website so here I am. Ethics board comes to mind as does litigation. My boy did not have to die. If the vets there can't do emergency surgery, they shouldn't be vets there. DO NOT take your pet there!!!!! I am being generous in giving them one star. They don't deserve it. read more

I brought my 2.5 lb 4 month old puppy Yorkie in for a possible fractured leg after she was playing with a lab and was crushed by him. The initial visit was satisfactory. They did xrays, bloodwork and it was recommended that she was to receive a splint due to a fracture. The cost was about $900.00. A day later the splint just slipped right off. I called to see if they could simply replace the splint as it was apparently not applied appropriately. I was told that there was nothing they could do unless I bring her in for another emergency examination fee plus another fee to re-splint her leg which would have cost upward to $400.00. I decided to wait another day to bring her to my normal vet where they resplinted her leg the correct way for a fraction of the price. I have never written a bad review about any facility in my lifetime, but I am extremely disappointed in this facility and will be letting others know my experience and recommending to care elsewhere! read more
