Probably a month ago I watched what I believe was the store manager give a vet (noticed his license…read moreplate) a hard time about dropping off some used oil. The customer actually held the door open for me while he held his five gallon pail of oil in the other. He greeted everybody at the counter as he walked towards the back to dump the oil. The 'manager' said something to the effect that he would dump it. Customer turned around and dropped the bucked at the end of the registers and said have at it. Manager asked if he wanted the bucked back. Customer said of course, and that he has always dumped the oil himself. 'Manager' said in the five years he has been there he has never allowed anybody to do that. A claim I personally call BS on. Because I've done it many times myself, and not just at this O'Rielly's either. The other clerk that had no issue with him dumping his own oil slides the oil recycling sheet across the counter and the customer start to fill it out when the 'manager' says you can take you oil with you. The customer calmly put the pen down, and leaned in, and calm as can be asked if he was looking to go rounds. The 'manager' said the customer was being rude. Something I will contest as a third party that heard and saw everything. Customer said I'm doing you a favor by dumping the oil so you can other assist customers. Then the manager said something about being arrested. I have no idea where the 'manager' gets off thinking anybody could be arrested. Customer was never asked, nor told to leave, and he never acted as though he would not leave when asked. At any rate the customer calmly picked his bucket of oil up, and left the store. Didn't slam or bang anything around, just left as though the clown behind the counter mattered nothing to him. Then the 'manager' turned to me after this entire exchange and asked what he could help me with. I told him to get f'd. The woman that was in the store walked out as well. If you want professional adults assisting you in Torrington. Carquest, or Napa (in that order). Avoid this O'Reilly's and that skinny buck tooth 'manager' with his five years at the store experience. I wish I had gotten his name. Real disheveled looking guy, bad teeth too. To be real honest the parts counter people have never been great here. But if you know what you are doing, you don't need to lean on a parts counter keyboard warrior anyway. This is a small town. I've known people to work most of their lives behind one of those counters, and never once have I witnessed such an exchange.

Not helpful at all... our daughter who attends college in Torrington needed help buying and…read moreinstalling a new battery in her car, which is something it says they do at all stores.. the guy was very rude typed her info into computer and said that battery has to be professionally installed (easiest battery to change) and no help on pointing her in a direction where she could find help.... Hoping it will make 7 hour trip home and dad can do it!!! Very frustrating!!!

Guess you have to catch these people on the right day…read more A little background, I sold 7.5 grams of gold ($3,300 spot price at the time) for $725. Not a bad rate on that so I came back with 10 grams a couple months later (again, $3,300 spot price), and the guy offers me $690 for it. $690 for 10 grams of gold is over 35% below today's spot price. That's not just a lowball offer; it borders on predatory, especially from a professional jeweler who should know better. And their response: "We regret that our offer did not align with your expectations. Our pricing is based on market and what we are willing to buy items for, and if you opt not to sell the item to us, you are free to sell it independently to any other interested party." For a business that advertises themselves as giving the best prices for gold, that seems dishonest. If I'd have known I was going to get lowballed, I wouldn't have wasted my time. Just be honest and say, "We're going to give you 35% below today's spot price." How you conduct business is important. How you treat people is important. Being crooks -- in time this business is going to pay for that. That is, if it hasn't already.
