South River Rehab and Performance has no equal…read more It's late on a Tuesday evening, and our son has injured his leg at practice and walking is quite painful. In similar situations in the past we had gone to the ER or Urgent Care, only to get a long wait, followed by an evaluation from a "generalist" MD, costly x-rays, and a referral to an Orthopedic MD. This time, we just called South River, and drove from the field immediately for an evaluation by a licensed Physical Therapist (who also has a PhD.) That was a much better decision for us, and fantastic experience working through the recovery plan! We continued going to South River, but now as a family -- kids for performance and injury prevention, while we parents were getting fantastic, customized core workouts. As a coach and player, I've been using Physical Therapy and Performance training for years, most often in large urban areas (like Chicago, Raleigh-Durham, etc). South River owner's knowledge of cutting edge workout methodologies is equal to the best trainers I've worked with. It's the way SR customizes workout and rehab methodologies to the individual athlete that is superior (in my view) to other places we have gone.

Great Podiatrist Office located in a great location within a couple miles of the interstate…read more Parking was ample on the day of my visit. The building houses a dermatologist office as well so definitely make sure you check the sign on the door when you walk in the entrance to ensure you are heading to the correct office. The receptionist was friendly, quick, and efficient. I didn't have to wait more than 10 minutes from the scheduled time of my appointment to be seen which was awesome. The nurses and doctor that assisted me today were super friendly, patient and knowledgeable. I highly recommend this location if you are in the market for a podiatrist!

You need to be sure the doctor that sends the referral lists every possible issue/description of…read moreyour problem because if every detail or possible detail is not listed then you're wasting your time. My foot/ankle issues are a bit complicated. I couldn't get past the "assistant" because I wanted to find out if the problem I'm having with my left foot might possibly be related to the fact that my right leg had been broken a few years ago and had resulted in an ankle injury as well as some residual foot paralysis (both feet) from an earlier illness. But because every possible detail had not been listed on the referral she then told me the doctor "would not" talk with me concerning the other facts. I had hoped every fact concerning my foot/ankle problems could have been discussed/looked at. But I left without so much as even meeting a doctor much less having anything examined. I know for whatever reason you can't talk to a specialist unless you've been referred there by your PCP. I could have paid my copay and talked to their doctor (whoever he is) about my left foot but the assistant was clear that he could not talk to me about anything else. I asked her "what good are you/he then?" She told me I needed to go back to my doctor and get a proper referral and then her doctor would schedule a "30 minute appointment" and talk to me about everything else. It appears it's all driven by the money. I thought that was so very big of him. And all this was after her leaving the room 3 separate times to ask him questions and then return and answer mine. So what is she needed for then? To be fair to my doctor's practice, my referral was not sent by my doctor but by another doctor in his practice (as he had no opening at the time). So I'm going back to (my) doctor to start this process all over again and get another referral to a podiatrist. But I have no intention of wasting more time with these folks. I originally asked to see Dr Ocheltree at this practice (as I know him and greatly respect him) but he was out of the country doing mission work related to his profession. Perhaps some others at this practice should follow his example? To say I left there disappointed would be an understatement. I am curious though about one thing. In this era of confidentiality and being private I find it extremely odd that a patient would take pictures of the inside of the business and the fact that the office staff would permit such a thing? Odd.

I've…read moregot some chronic conditions, one of them very rare and a lot of providers I've seen had no idea what it was, or had very incorrect information about it. She is not only knowledgeable about the condition, but ordered some tests that other doctors refused to order for me in the past, because they didn't understand the condition well enough to know they needed to be done. She listens, she's educated, she cares. I am so glad I found her!

A few years ago, during a time of much pain, I sought out this office to help. The therapist…read morelistened to my needs and did an amazing job. I would have loved to be a regular patient, but their prices are quite high. High, but worth it if it gets the job done. Sadly, it was beyond my financial reach. So, when I recently had some serious tightness with quite a bit of debilitating pain, I called to make another appointment. I got the machine, no surprise, perhaps they were with another patient. But it did take 2 days to get a return call. And because they are apparently so busy, it was a month before they had an opening for me. I began seeing a chiropractor to ease the pain, and looked forward to the scheduled massage. While on the phone, I checked my calendar and confirmed the date/time, setting a reminder so I would not miss it. That whole month, I scheduled other appointments around the massage. I arrived on time that morning, feeling better but very much looking forward to the pampering and relief I knew I would receive. But no one was there. Door was locked, lights were out. The lady in the next door office offered to let me wait, but I immediately called and got the answering machine. Left a message, asked if somehow I had gotten the date/time wrong (though I know I verified and was correct). I waited outside another 15 minutes, but it was raining, so I left. Sent a message on their Facebook page as well, which hasn't been seen yet, over 24 hours later. Also over 24 hours later and I haven't gotten a call back, and when I called again hoping to speak to someone to reschedule, got the machine again. Guess I won't reschedule. I know things happen, maybe they couldn't make it. But a call or cancelation would be nice, or a callback to apologize would go a long way too. At this point, I will find a less expensive and more customer service friendly location to get my relaxation.

If he started to rise to leave and I thought of another question, he sat back down quickly and never seemed rushed or annoyed. He explained things well. Since I was anxious about a medical issue I didn't always retain the explanations and he was endless patient and pleasant when explaining again. My initial reaction to him, however, was not great. He thinks out loud which made me a little nervous, but I really came to appreciate this trait most. If he does not know something he tells you immediately and then finds the answers. He does not hesitate to consult someone. He is quite knowledgable and always puts the patient first, as evidenced by his ease in accessing others for consult. The only downside is the wait for him tends to be long. I don't mind that because I know he will give me unhurried time when it is my turn. It is worth the wait. His nurse (Kristen) is awesome. Friendly, warm, knowledgable and reassuring.
