The dentists are the absolute BEST within southeast Tennessee and so trustworthy! I had taken one of my children somewhere else and was told they needed a root canal. I went to Dr. Newman at Pediatric Dentistry and was told the tooth was a baby tooth that would come out in the few months and he would do it if I wanted but the pain my child would go through (not to mention the cost of the procedure) should be considered. Needless to say, the tooth came out in less than two months with no issues and no giant bill! On top of that he saw us at a moments notice when my youngest son was in pain after a procedure by the first dentist I took them to and he fixed it in no time. I don't trust anyone else with my children anymore. Pediatric Dentistry is the best!

The first major issue however was that they don't currently have a receptionist reachable by phone- so all communication was on texts with long pauses up to days at a time, between different receptionists where information would be lost in translation. In desperation we pressed on for an appt which we finally received in a confusing last minute manor only to be met with a clipboard form to fill out for payment (no warm greeting first) that included an expensive service we weren't told is required but which DIDN'T include one of the main services we had been discussing for weeks (on text) that we would like to have done. (And the total was WAY more than what we had been told on text) Finally, and this sealed the deal, the dentist was informed of our request to not have the 'required xrays' and proceeded to LOUDLY instruct the receptionist to inform us that this was not her preference but she would ok it, it was handled in such an utterly unprofessional manner and awkward for all involved (Notable on receptionists face too) We went to the parking lot, called a more reputable holistic practice in ATL, got an appt and left before being seen by Dr Lorie Steven's. She may have much knowledge and great years of experience but we feel we dodged a bullet. Go elsewhere, even if you have to drive further.

She had cavities at a very young age and had to be placed under anesthesia to fill and he made sure he explained the process and we had it at the hospital because he was concerned with the size of her tonsils. Long story short his concern led to her pediatrician (who had to clear her for surgery) sending her to an ear nose and throat specialist. We had her tonsils and adenoids removed and we would have never known the issue existed if it hadn't been for Dr Hicks. I wouldn't go anywhere else. The new office is absolutely gorgeous -

It's by far the most beautiful dentist office I've seen, with a lobby that looks like a Vegas hotel lobby. There's a movie room to keep your children occupied while waiting, or adults waiting for their kids. He does such a great job, when my daughter had 8 cavities (yes, 8, oops), he took care of it swiftly and she had no issues. In the new office, they have a gold coin to give to them where they can pick from several candy ball-like machines as a prize. My daughter literally asked when the next time she can get a cleaning because she wanted another gold coin. Brilliant! Highly recommend!
