Afterwards, a short walk to the range, I took care of my shooting requirements. This was the first range I've been to in a long time that my truck (and shoes) were not covered in mud when I left- fresh gravel had been put down recently. Add a lower fee than most trainers as well as being the only one in the class, I felt I got a lot of "bang for the buck"!

The classroom session was very educational and Mr. Newman is very knowledgeable in the area of handgun operations and handgun safety, the many different laws and regulations pertaining to handguns and concealed carry, and real life scenarios where you can visualize and learn the many techniques and postures for safely and properly response to and handle these different situations that will end up saving your life and the lives of others. The handgun shooting qualification session was even more fun and I got hands on experience and guidance on how to properly load and unload a pistol, how to properly grip and aim, and best of all learning the correct shooting posture and position to achieve the best result of hitting where you are aiming. I currently do not own a handgun and Mr. Newman was generous enough to rent me his own firearm so I can go through the qualification round. Mr. Newman takes him time in covering all aspect of the training class and shooting course, and often give me the opportunity to asks any question I may have as he move through the training materials. You will need a 4x4 to get over the erosion on the main road and parking area. The building used as their office looks unsafe and very run down. The ranges had over 6 ft tall weeds on them and what they provide for targets is safe. They seem to be constantly changing the rules to visit, gain access, and shoot on their range. The owner was very conceded in his communication and very unhelpful, unwilling to take or even entertain suggestions. Would not recommend this place to anyone especially military as they offer a discount but run you off with their attitude, service, general unfriendliness, and over zealous nature. If they don't know you or like you instantly they will run you off and try and screw you out of your membership. The only good thing I experienced was a volunteer named Nick who was very helpful and I think runs their sparse weekend competitions. He puts a lot of work into the place from what I saw but only to support his events. It doesn't look like the range is kept up in any other area.

I was given John's information from a friend who recommended him for his conceal carry permit…read moreclass. I was not let down. He begins the class by telling everyone the class should be three days long and he's right. He did an excellent job of putting the important content into an 8 hour class. The content flowed well, was prioritized accordingly and communicated very clearly. He encouraged questions at any time throughout the day. As someone who has grown up around firearms of all types it only took 15 minutes to determine John truly is an expert who's highest priority at all times is gun safety. Top to bottom John covers what you need to know to make informed decisions. He offers other courses that I plan on attending in the near future. Any cons I could think of....the course is 8 hours. All of 8 hours. It is long but that is not John's choice, it is a state requirement. Be prepared for a full day. And if it were up to John, for the sake of his students, it would be longer. I strongly recommend anyone considering owning a firearm to take his course even if they do not plan to carry concealed.
