If this is a real massage place at all, it's a scam and after cutting my 1 hour message short after 20 minutes, I'm not sure this isn't a place of ill repute. Either way, the two warning signs were when they made me prepay and when they told me twice to take off my underwear. I went in for a chair massage this morning. It seemed as if I was inconveniencing them, and I realize it's the lowest price service, but that's how I find a place I like / trust. I said "no percussion" before we started, and I had to repeatedly ask the masseuse to go lighter / softer. Then she started the percussion, and did it a second time despite having asked her not to do it when she did it the first time, and before we started. Stopped in for a massage today to test them out, since I have been looking for a good massage in the area. They were able to squeeze me in for a 30-minute massage with no wait! It was perfect timing. I get knots in my shoulders and have low back pain so massages can really help if I get someone willing to work the knots out. I've also been struggling with hip pain since I had a baby. I got the deep tissue massage and it really helped. My back and hips feel so much better! The hot towel and hot stones at the end was great for relieving the last bit of tension that was stuck in my shoulders. Hoping I can become a regular but it's hard to find the time with a baby at home! Tip: They charge a 3.5% fee for paying with card so bring cash! Can I give more than 5 stars?! Because I feel massage is important to my health and self-care, I've experienced a lot of massages during my lifetime. So I can tell when someone knows their stuff. I've had overall positive experiences with the massage therapists at Blue Lily and this has become a "go to" of mine for restorative massage. I especially enjoy booking massages with Michelle -- like I did today. Michelle is skilled, knowledgeable, and intuitive. She's also positive, kind, and professional. Environment-wise, the Blue Lily space feels clean and relaxing. I love the calming music they play, and the lighting is pleasant. Today I walked into my appointment with Michelle feeling tense and weary. I came out of my appointment feeling relaxed, renewed, and like tension has melted away. I look forward to booking again in the future! Side note: about payment and tipping, in my opinion, Blue Lily's pricing is very reasonable for the quality you experience, and a substantial $ tip is appropriate as therapists like Michelle have gone through the efforts and investments to become certified in their fields, in some cases -- like Michelle's -- be entrepreneurs, and provide massage that requires physical and mental focus for significant durations. I had booked 2 appointments. I got the $85.00 package which included 60 min. massage and 20 min herbal foot massage. Then I added hot stones for $10. We arrived early. A woman came out. I explained what I had booked. She acted like she didn't know what I was talking about. She finally said ok 5 min. We waited 15. She took us to the room. We get undressed and on the table and she said what you want 30 min? I said no I scheduled a 85 minute. She said oh no can't do that too busy. I have another appointment at 7 for 2. When I walked in, I explained what I had scheduled. If they couldn't accommodate me, why did they wait until we got on the table and ask us if we wanted 30 minutes? If they would've explained that to me when I first walked in, I would've rescheduled, but they didn't give me that choice. They just decided to shorten our massages. Not a very good way to do business we will not be going back. I was paying at the end and the woman asked for a tip.....not when I don't get what I asked for...not even close. I have been visiting Blue Lily Massage now for several months. I had back surgery, and had my L3, L4, and L5 discs replaced a few years ago so there are times my lower back and back in general are really in pain and I often get muscle spasms. I have worked with a couple of therapists there, but Michelle is the one who is best able to pinpoint my trouble spots and really get my back to release and relax. I like a strong massage and she is able to apply pressure to separate the tissue and relieve my pain. Whether using her hands or her feet while walking on you, she has a phenomenal touch and id is able to really zero in on the problem areas to relieve pain and tension. The Spa is extremely clean and very friendly and works with both male and female clientele. It is the best massage therapy I have found in the Arroyo Grande area, and I highly recomend them. read more

I read previous reviews and thought the biggest issue would be getting pressured for a bigger tip, right? So I thought I'd be clever and take exact cash after looking at the online menu and doing math for what I was willing to tip. Turns out that's just the "tip" of the iceberg. I used their text to book service (exclusive to Blue Lily!!!) and she was responsive fairly quickly. The girl at the counter interrupted the massage of another patron when I arrived to have the woman come out to verify what I wanted, which should have been a red flag. I was put in a room, got undressed, and checked the clock on the wall when the woman walked in to start my massage. It was 4:15 on the dot. Turns out the "text for appointments" means the masseuse will receive texts during your massage, which is disruptive when the phone vibrates and disruptive when she swaps to a half ass effort to massage you with one hand and respond to her phone with the other. I found myself just annoyed and the massage unbalanced. She finished her massage, apologized for not getting to my whole body because my left shoulder took a bit of attention, which is true, and told me she would go set up the foot sauna. I sat up, saw her phone was playing a show of some kind on the table next to me, and looked at the clock and noted the 60 minute massage had only lasted 45 minutes. I mentioned it to the masseuse as I sat there, awkwardly naked under a sheet, wondering what was happening next since I felt in the dark. The masseuse argued with me that she HAD massaged me for 60 minutes. She was so insistent she pulled up the security video of the time she entered my room and exited my room, which is how she discovered I was right... and then proceeded to offer to give me another 15 minutes. I was so uncomfortable I declined. She moved me to the foot sauna and asked me to go ahead and pay. I said I would like to pay when I completed my services, and she insisted I pay right then, as the desk up front would not be staffed at the end of my services. I gave her a $100 bill and she asked "how much change?" and I firmly said ALL OF IT, I will tip when my services are complete. She did not argue. I sat in the foot sauna, which is a giant waste of money sitting straight up on a hard chair with your feet in warm water, for maybe 5 minutes of my scheduled 20 minutes. At that point I was fuming and not at all relaxed. Oddly enough, the supposedly empty front desk did indeed have an employee sitting there waiting to receive my tip before I left. I gave 10% and a look that dared her to demand more. I was ready to give an earful of tips... but decided to share my story with you instead. The 2nd star is because she did better than my boyfriend, who is distracted by SportsCenter, gassy, and expects sex in exchange for a massage. read more

I've never seen in my entire life seen a fully grown adult, who is an employee, whine like a child. Like actual whining. The ENTIRE time. Also be aware they require a 30% minimum tip! You don't have a say in how much you tip So to start of I walked in a she told quickly signaled me to enter the room. Didn't even give me a second to discuss pricing or look at their options. I enter the room and told her I wanted the cheapest option. She said the 30 minute massage. I said yes. she pointed to my shirt and said take it off. So I did. Then she started sighing and mumbling but I couldn't understand what she was saying. Then I was like "do you want me to take everything off?" She didn't give me a clear yes or no. I assumed no cause there's no way she expected me to get butt ass naked with the door wide open. I wanted her to be super clear so we went back and forth till. It took 3 minutes and her manager coming over for them to explain to me somewhat clearly that I needed to get completely naked. I did tell them when I first got there that this was my first time getting a massage, so I didn't know what to expect. Then she got so frustrated to the point where I'm pretty sure she asked me to leave. She was pointing at me then the door. I wasn't sure if she wanted me to leave or was telling me she was gonna wait outside while I got naked. So I just stayed. She rolled her eyes, sighed, then scoffed. Then closed the door. I got naked. She came into the room a few minutes later then began to massage me. She then told me to flip and I told her I wasn't comfortable doing that. She saw me not turning over so she said "Do you not speak English?" As I was speaking perfect English to her the entire time. She then left the room abruptly and got her manager to come over. The manager then told me if I could flip around. I told the manager that I told the massage therapist "I wasn't comfortable doing that. I don't mind cutting the massage short". She said to give the massager tips on what I should work on. She then left the room. We continued the massage. When the massage was finished she just kind walked out of the room. I had to use context clues and realize that the massage was done. When I got to the front she pointed to a sign that said 30% minimum tip. For what??? All the whining. That explains why she had me rush into the room and wouldn't let me see the different pricing. Never again. I still don't believe this was real. For management.
