This hotel would get FIVE STARS if not for a few mistakes, that can only be chalked up to mediocre hotel management, excluding their elevator that makes a horrible noise as if it's going to detach and plunge me to my death (please fix that). First of all, there is no access to ice machines, or ice bucket in your room. You must visit the bar for both. You could probably call it up, but that is always a hassle. People at the bar seem like they're forced to be nice to you, but if could have been a bad day. I'd stay at this hotel again and again. I highly recommend it, if not for the tiny fixes to make it a FIVE STAR. The towel warming rack in the bathroom is a nice touch. Please fix the elevator. Lastly, the worst trait of this hotel is the waiter staff during breakfast in the restaurant. My girlfriend and I waited so long for our coffee, tea, and toast that it had to be reordered. Suddenly the reorder comes to our table with black tea instead of green tea. Within seconds later, after a half hour of waiting our original order comes. The waitress is completely confused. In this time, we already ate the self-serve part of our breakfast. Completely and utterly ruined. Still, I would return.

There are loads of bars and restaurants nearby, and it's a 15 minute walk to the city centre (there is also a Quayside electric bus which takes you to the centre, or you can take a taxi from outside the hotel). Now on to the interior...I just love it! It's dark and sensual with a lot of purples. The rooms are spacious, and the suites are fantastic: luxurious comfort is how I would describe it. And those beds?! Amazing night's sleep. My husband is American and it's traditional to host a Rehearsal Dinner before your wedding. We held this is a private dining area in the brasserie and from all the planning to the actual event, I could not have had better service. The food is all made on site by the chef and his/her team, and it was delicious. The spa is really adorable, and a lovely place to come and relax. We had a couple's massage. The staff were extremely professional and I loved chilling out in the relaxation room. 5/5 for everything about this place. We had such a great experience from start to finish.

It's location is perfect if you want to wander along to the quayside and the pubs, restaurants etc, if you don't want to go far then there is a 'spoons next door that does pitchers of cocktails for a fiver, and they will look at you strangely if you reply to the question 'how many glasses do you want' with 'just a straw will do'....

If running is your thing, great running paths very close. I ran around downtown area, only 1/2 mile of so away. Also took a jog along the Tyne...there is a boardwalk/ pathway for bikes/ walking/ jogging. Also, there is a spa and fitness center within the hotel...I didn't visit it, but the hotel has one. The fitness center closes relatively early (9PM)... wish it would have stayed open later or 24 hr. The restaurant is decent, full bar, wide variety of breakfast items. 24 hour room service. Food was a bit expensive and breakfast was £14 if not included in the room rate. My room overlooked the river, great view (I booked a room under 'River view', they had other types of rooms to choose from). The room was clean, spacious. Had a tv, coffee/tea maker, blowdryer, ironing board, refrigerator, small table, desk. Front desk service was great, no complaints. On the last day, I checked out early and they were able to store my luggage all day while I trekked around Newcastle. Ride to the airport cost approx £10. I did not have a car, however, there is a car park available. Not sure of the rates. I would definitely recommend staying here... would stay here again myself if/when I'm back in the area.

Pros *The bed was the perfect firmness, and the blanket was a down one - so super comfortable! *I loved the shower! The water pressure is robust and the hot water is pippin hot. Additionally they have two shower heads - a traditional side one that detaches and you can direct the water, and a waterfall head, which was heavenly! They also provide both shampoo, conditioner, and bodywash, and there's a speaker in the bathroom so if you're listening to the tv you can hear everything loud and clear. *Breakfast was devine. Guest's need to make reservations in advance and it's booked in 30 minute increments. During my stay the 8:30 time slot was full, but I was able to get a 8am one. There's a cold bar with meats, cheese, bread, fruit, and a yogurt/granola station. For beverages they had juice and smoothies! I was already impressed with the buffet and didn't know that guests could also order hot items a la cart. I decided on eggs benedict and it was just what I need to fuel me up for the day! *Pretty good range of channels for the tv, but and I'm not sure if this is region specific not I didn't see a travel channel, but they did have the food channel! Cons *You need to bring your key everywhere because there are sections of the building and elevator where you need to scan it to access other areas. This was very foreign to me so I looked really dumb not understanding what so many sections of the building looked locked. Additionally, I got lost several times. It's not a traditional long hallway, but instead many different sections - so if you're directionally challenged this might be difficult *At least in my room there were a couple of lights that couldn't turn on or I couldn't figure out how to turn it on, and there's no light to shine on the whole room, only small lights for certain sections, but not the main sleeping area. Summary Overall, I really enjoyed my stay but a couple of things were annoyances so unfortunately, I couldn't give it a perfect score. Nevertheless, I had the most glorious showers here.

The rooms are spacious and well equipped but my 3rd floor room did not have a good bathroom. Shower was underpowered and in a very slippery bath with a shower curtain. Not ideal as shower curtains are not what I expect in a high end hotel, while the bath is pretty dangerous and I would be concerned for older guests stepping out. In addition some tiles were missing above wash basin. Breakfast consisted of hot and cold buffet and was very good. So some hits and misses but location was a winner.

I've stayed at Hilton Newcastle Gateshead three times now, and it appears that little has changed since my first stay back in 2017, the room appeared to be outdated in terms of the overall decor. There were also no bedside plug-sockets. I also had an issue with comfort in my room as the desk chair was uncomfortable, as were the pillows, the latter I did speak to the staff and ask if they had any alternative, to which they replied, "No, sorry" Noise is also an issue throughout the hotel, with corridor noise pretty much all the time, housekeeping would also start very early, adding to the noise issues. It didn't feel well insulated; I could also hear passing trains, all within my room. The corridors were also poorly insulated; I ended up hearing what sounded like a couple having sex when walking through to my room. The Air Conditioning in the hotel was also an issue; it would appear to be running all the time, so it would make a small amount of noise even when turned off. Every time I would open or close the door to my room, it would come on in full again, and there was no override the staff also told me they couldn't do anything about it. The standard of housekeeping was also poor, despite having the "service please" sign on my door, no one ended up coming to my room on my first night luckily, they have housekeeping on until just before 830 pm, so I was able to get my room cleaned after requesting it, but I did have to take another trip out of my room when I didn't plan on it. Housekeeping would also fail to wash or replace drinking glasses in my room, and on one occasion, they left me without any flannels and toilet paper. Cleanliness also could have been better as I found long black hair in the bath when arriving at the hotel. The service also seems to be poor. I did not feel valued as a Gold Hilton Honors member, as I was not given an Executive Floor / Lounge upgrade on this occasion, and the staff were also rude when I asked for a late check-out. They told me they would only be able to grant this on the morning of check-out rather than the night before, after insisting multiple times I wanted a late check-out to sleep in, they did grant me until 1 pm. On my most recent stay, I used the car park, the rates are reasonable at £15 per night with in/out privileges. They ended up taking two payments of £45 to cover the three nights, one as a card hold, one as an actual payment - this meant I had to wait for 30 days for the charges to be manually reversed by my bank from my debit card - again this felt unnecessary how they'd charge me twice and just blame it on the automated systems. The lift in the underground car-park was out of order, meaning I had to carry my heavy suitcase up a flight of stairs. The room rates were certainly reasonable, but given the amount of work this hotel needs, I hope they can give the property the much-needed help and refurbishment it needs to bring back the standards it once had. 2*

It's about a 10 minute walk (mostly down-hill) to the train station and the centre of town. Most of the rooms are mini-suites equipped with a small kitchen with its own mini TV. which can be nice if you're looking to eat in for a change. The Sandman is one of the few hotels in Newcastle with rooms that can easily accommodate 3 or 4 people. My studio King room had a double sofa bed---though the overall room itself was quite diminutive. The bath was modern with a large rain-forest shower---though it didn't have a shower door---water got everywhere. There is free wifi and you can order room service from the sports bar & grill adjacent to the lobby. Overall the Sandman is a good Newcastle Hotel option especially if you want to be near the stadium.

Make sure that you choose a room closer to the elevator if you want good WiFi connection, but if you're like me who like to have peace and quiet, the corner room is also truly amazing for a peaceful night's sleep. The hotel is within walking distance to all the main attractions, and the Durham Castle was just a few 15minutes away on a train ride from the Central Station. We were also given warm chocolate chip walnut cookies, which I thought was a nice touch. Our room was large and the beds comfortable. One wall was floor-to-ceiling windows with a scenic view over the airport parking lot. The curtains were thick and did a good job of blocking out the light. We had fish and chips at the bar downstairs near the reception and it was decent. Overall this is a place worth staying at if your travel plans include awkward flight times.

I discovered this was an old Jury's Inn and, to my surprise, the Leonardo chain has done really well with this space. The staff were lovely downstairs, but it was courtyard and open space that took me aback. However, I stepped back a moment when seeing how big my room was, with a large king size bed and spacious bathroom. The view I had from my fifth floor window was a nice bonus. I'm very pleased with myself and enjoyed both the accommodation and time in Newcastle!

The bathroom was grim and looked like it hadn't been cleaned properly. We were moving rooms though so that was fine, or so I thought. We moved next door and this room was worse. There were 3 dead bugs on the bathroom floor, the grouting in the tiles was filthy, bath taps and shower head were filthy. The toilet seat wasn't attached properly and was also filthy around the fastening. Round the back and side of the toilet you could clearly see it hadn't been cleaned and also places like around the sink, the extractor fan, the shelf above the sink. The "complimentary toiletries" they mention is actually a bottle of hair and body wash screwed to the wall. Pretty much what you get at a much cheaper hotel where you know this is what you get. The amount of dust in the top of the radiator and across the bed headboards were disgusting. The doors of the rooms don't shut properly unless you bang them which is also annoying when you're trying to sleep and others are having to do the same thing. I had asked for a disabled adapted room as both my son and I are disabled. They didn't have one available for us and the parking, well it doesn't exist. This hotel DOES NOT have its own parking. The closes one is £14 a night however if you park there and move the charge will reset itself so only park there if you intend to stay there. There is a cheaper one a little further away that seemed to be advertising it's self as being the car park for the hotel (the hotel staff don't appear to know about this one though) and they seem to charge £5 a night. If you are disabled there are 2 bays out on the main road. It's still not super close and if you are wanting to park and carry your luggage, well that's not ideal. The breakfast was decent and had a good selection. There was one member of staff there who tried hard to help us with everything and he was very nice, the only part of this whole stay that was. His name was Alex. Aside that, the whole experience was terribly stressful. Caused my COPD to be badly and my sons asthma due to the sheer level of dust in the room. I have stayed in Jury's Inn hotels before and they were nice. I haven't stayed in them since they became Leonardo's but after this visit, I'm not sure I would stay again. Very disappointed. This trip was supposed to be for my son and I. He is 9 and just beat a 4 year battle with cancer so we are now trying to catch up and make all the memories. This trip was extremely stressful and ruined basically. I wouldn't recommend this place at all. To add insult to injury I was charged TWICE for the stay. This has been resolved now but I was horrified to see that they had taken the money twice causing me further stress and problems. If you email them like the "welcome note" in the room says, don't expect a reply either. The whole stay was incredibly stressful and ruined the things we had planned. It took me ages to get checked in after arriving because of the issues with parking. If you stay here and have any issues with your room and have to move, please please make sure you don't get charged twice. Check your bank!
