However, I chose not to make assumptions and continued with the enrollment process. I was informed that I needed to bring my child in for an observation. When my wife, my child, and I arrived for the observation, I noticed that there were no Black children in attendance. Again, I did not think much of it and remained positive about the opportunity for my child. After the observation, my wife and I were informed that our child would not be accepted into the program. The explanation given was that she would not fit in because she was coming from a smaller social environment and might have difficulty adjusting to a larger classroom setting. While I understand that schools must assess whether they can meet a child's needs, the way this decision was communicated left us feeling uncomfortable and singled out. I asked directly whether the decision had anything to do with my child's race. Heather, the manager, quickly responded that it did not. However, her response did little to address my concerns, and I felt that my question was dismissed rather than genuinely considered. The entire interaction left my family feeling unwelcome and discriminated against. As parents, we want our child to be evaluated fairly based on her abilities and potential, not on assumptions or biases. Every child deserves an inclusive and welcoming environment where they are given the opportunity to learn, grow, and succeed. This experience was deeply hurtful and disappointing for our family, and it has left us questioning whether diversity, equity, and inclusion are truly valued at this daycare center.

She was flexible with my crazy 12 hour shifts. She is very reliable and I have never had issues with having the coverage that I needed. Her prices are very reasonable for the area. Her attention to detail is amazing and she was even willing to support all of my first mom needs. We had an app and she would chart to appease my neurotic nursing nature. She helped me with getting Rhiley on a schedule and would alert me to any issues that were present with our little one. It's amazing how she keeps track of it all. I loved how much fun I could tell Rhiley had from spending a full day with Mersiha and the other kids. You could tell how much they both loved each other. And I loved how big of a smile Rhiley and Mersiha had when they would both see each in the morning or evening. My child is not only loved by her teachers, but nurtured with excellent programming. Separate sleeping rooms for infants and max of 8 infants in a whole room, outdoor water playground for older kids. Costs are higher than some ($1640 a month for infants, cheaper as the child gets older), but is childcare really where you want to scrimp? Only downside is construction in the area - but I would hate to see the best child care center in the state suffer due to traffic patterns. They do tours once a month for prospective families.

I first went here two years ago, as the church hosts a Mom-Baby group for first-time moms, sponsored by NW Community Hospital. Through it, I got to get to know other moms (who now host their own home playgroups) and talk to perinatal educators one morning a week. Those outings were extremely valuable and probably saved my sanity. (It meets every Tuesday from 10-11:30 am). The church also offers Parents' Day Out, a one-day a week Christian childcare program. Open to kids 6 mos-5 years, PDO is staffed by teachers and kids attend from 9:30-1:30. Tuition for the 9 month school year is $73/month for kids under 3 ($63/month for kids 3+). Again - a sanity saver. I'm not in the market for a church, but if I was, I'd give First Presbyterian serious consideration - mainly for the kid/family programs and ministries.
