Given that Yummi Mummi's website hasn't yet adjusted their postal address, and judging from the…read moresign in their window, I think that it is a brand new edition to Moortown Corner. And this is certainly no bad thing, that's for sure. Although I really dislike that particular phrase, 'yummy mummy' (a bit too cutesy and edible, and almost a patronising way of complimenting women) there is nothing to dislike about the shop itself. In fairness too, the shop name is perfectly adequate to describe what you can expect within. It is a unique concept boutique, which aims to provide mothers with comfortable and fashionable attractive night wear and accessories. Inside you will find all kinds of delightful items, from jewellery to handbags to clothing to accessories, in a beautifully thought out and specially design collection. It's clear from their designs, and from their website, that a lot of passion, creativity and tireless work has gone into making their boutique what it is! Not everything there is to my taste, but these things are always 'each to their own', and I can't actually flaw the product within. From hand made leather brooches, to cute floral reusable PVC bags, to fabric cupcake pin cushions - everything is quirky and delightful! Just reading their ethos on the website is enough to make you fall in love with their work. It seems their aim is to try to change the attitude that once women become mothers they cease to exist sexually, aesthetically and in terms of femininity - a very flawed and painful attitude that continues to rob mothers of their confidence and self worth today. For that alone these guys deserve one hundred stars! They also do yearly charity work, which for an indie shop is truly great (as we all know how indie shops must struggle themselves!) and they even have some great quotes from strong women on their site. All in all, this is a business that will grow and grow, and I look forward to watching this space!

On one of these occasions I decided to venture into Yummi Mummi in the hope of finding something sweet, special and not to expensive to give to a friend. I could have spent hours looking at the nick knacks, cushions, decorations, bags and cuddly toys on offer. There is a huge range for such a small place and it's the perfect place to buy a gifts.

'It's all about the confidence,' says Gok Wan. 'Come on ladies, embrace those bangers.' I don't…read morefind anything remotely attractive about equating breasts with sausages, and Gok should know the difference, considering the amount he's grabbed over the years. Wouldn't it be funny if his gay demeanour was just a facade and he's secretly been perving all these years. No, NO, it wouldn't, I'm sorry. It would mean many women with low self-esteem were violated. Tut. Ahem. Moving swiftly on, Dotty P's as the brunette calls it has had something of an invigoration. I don't know if it was at the hands of Gok, but what was once a sea of beige and off-white which would entice my grandmother but make me seethe has become a card-carrying member of the fashionista set. Yes, there are military jackets. There are platform heels. There are nautical stripes, junk jewels and delightful scarves. And the brunette is a massive fan. In fact she got me all last year's birthday presents from Dot's, and I loved them. If you're tired of Topshop and naffed off with New Look, Dot's is a great and rather calming alternative. The clothes regularly appear in the likes of More and Look magazine as great budget options, and the sales are truly incredible. Little black leather moccasins from £20 down to a fiver? Get in. Just get in quicker than I did, they've only got size 5 left, darn it. And the maternity wear, lingerie and nightwear is pretty too. This Arndale branch is a decent size with a really great range. Dotty P's has changed for the better. Let's hope it stays this way.

Dotty P's has enjoyed a recent surge in popularity and the shop has always been busy when I've gone in - it has definitely shrugged off it's mumsy/work-wear reputation and now stocks a good variety of young fashions, formal wear, work clothes and maternity clothing. My girlfriend is always keen to pay a visit as it is one of the few high street chains to stock 'tall' sizes which extend into plus sizes without the stigma of having to visit an entirely different section of the shop. Hooray for shops with no size-ist apartheid.
