I met with Darren Elkins a few times who initially seemed caring and empathetic but he ended up being dismissive and invalidating, and he discouraged me from respectfully verbalizing my needs in all 3 situations I shared with him and didn't offer support or anything of value. When he gaslit me about all THREE of the situations I shared with him, that was the final straw and I did not return to meet with him again. This experience of meeting with Darren left me shaken, and hurt me much more than it helped. Darren is a higher up in this organization and it appears that this is the type of care they provide for the companies who pay them so, given this unhealthy and oppressive culture which seems to permeate the organization, I wouldn't recommend this place or its therapists at all. Not all therapists are like this. Instead, I have been meeting with a therapist in private practice with whom I feel very safe and have been able to work through so much!! read more

Took an anxiety workshop. Registration was easy. Presenter gave advice about "natural" drugs to use, with no preface of "see your doctor or pharmacist". She kept saying "Look it up," implying she's correct. Had I taken her information without knowledge of the contraindications with the medications I already take, I would've ended up in the hospital or dead. When I informed the folks in charge, they said they'd take care of it. They didn't. I just don't want anyone else to risk dying to alleviate their anxiety. read more

When someone finally gets up the courage to make an appointment and travel to your office, anxious about opening up to a stranger and telling their deepest feelings, it would be a good idea for your front office personnel to be kind and gracious about helping with directions. The receptionist at the Murray location was so condescending to my wife today when the GPS turned her around that she's decided not to try again after cancelling her appointment. When she called to get help with directions the receptionist was so rude and condescending. Don't you train your staff to realize that people who come to see you are already pretty vulnerable?! Absolutely unacceptable! Your receptionists are your frontline. They most likely aren't healthcare professionals but they need some training to avoid situations like this. It's not like a McDonald's drive through. This is people's mental health you are dealing with. So utterly disgusted. I wish there was a zero star option or even negative. I am forced to come here by my insurance plan's mental health rules as a part of the "EAP" system, and while I appreciate the benefit, I feel like this place is a little on the icky side. I just wanted my angsty tween child to have someone to talk to about her little rage issues and sibling rivalry, so we were sent here. Parking is a pain in the butt. They make it seem like there is an under-building parking area, but when you get down there, there's only 2 visitor spots and the other 20 are all reserved for various employees, and it's too narrow to turn around and get out, so you end up having to leave the building, drive down the road, make a U-turn, and come back. I didn't know until later that there is a big parking lot behind the bank next door that you can use for this building, but it's not very safe feeling at night as there are zero lights and it;s an iffy area. Services are fine. They don't deal with anything heavy...this is a light chit chatty type counseling service and if you have a true mental health issue they immediately refer you to a real psychologist. I guess I shouldn't say real, but I have no idea what the credentials of these people are, because you are sent to a different room every time you come, and none are posted. If your company covers this place, it's fine, I guess. I wouldn't go out of my way to come here again unless something really serious were going on and I just needed the referral. read more

Mental health resource for those on the Employee Assistance Program (EAP) through the U of U. Services are geared to episodic talk therapy to get through rough patches, but not extended treatments. Finding a good counselor can be hit and miss, but it's free, and offered to both the employee plus their spouses and dependents. This provides the opportunity for family, marital or singles counseling as the case may be. I've come here for little stretches on and off for over a year, and am generally satisfied. My first counselor was awful. She asked no questions, allowing me to flounder and babble without direction while she stared at me deadpan. It was a little creepy. Since then I've been impressed with the insight and levity of other counselors. Bottom line? You gotta find someone you like. Office staft are great. They always answer their phones, rarely put you on hold and are cheerful. The counselors don't have dedicated offices, so you may move around. Counseling hours may vary person-to-person. Evening and weekend appoinments are more challenging to find. Overall it's highly unlikely that you'll come away worse for the wear. As a free service for families on the EAP, it's a great thing to take advantage of; just gotta put in the work of finding someone you like there. read more

Suzanne Sexton was the counselor assigned to speak with my daughter. She invited me into her office alone before she spoke with my daughter. I explained some of the issues that she was having, and she didn't reply just staring at me. She asked if I was married and if everything was okay in the home. I left and she went and brought my daughter into the office. About 10 minutes later Suzanne came into the lobby at to get me and when we were all in the room together she essentially said she could not help my daughter that her Services weren't for the type of problems she was having. On the ride home my daughter told me that Suzanne spent five minutes of the 10 minutes that she was with my daughter Googling books and therapists for her , she never even tried to have a conversation with my daughter. She immediately said that she was depressed and needed to be on medication. My daughter was devastated and I was annoyed that she would only spend five minutes talking with her and come to a determination that she could not help her. The appointment was over. The irony is that in the time between making the appointment and arriving that day my daughter's anxiety had dramatically improved and she was much happier. She was just looking for someone to talk to to reassure her. This appointment, and in my opinion the therapist, was a complete failure read more

This place only has your employers interests in mind this is very blatant at this place. I had a traumatic incident while at work. the cousoler was not genuine at all with my concerns and demanded I come to one of the 2 appointments the day after my first appointment with them. that forced me to miss an appointment with a pest control person at my apartment that was made weeks ago "if canceled at the last minute would cause me a fine through my appartment complex"....... bottom line is I feel this place has increased my anxiety where I thought the purpose was supposed to be the opposite I thought this is what counseling was supposed be about, not giving me grief saying "I bent over backwards to find this appointment for you" I am still in disbelief that the cousoler had this attatude. read more

I saw Steve Jones, who I believe is a LMFT. He was a good sounding board for me who was, first and foremost, a good listener, but also helped me work through some thinking errors and guilt I felt about a certain situation. I would return in a heartbeat if I felt I needed the service. read more

I used to go to the Ogden location which I loved, and moved so decided to try the salt lake location. I went to Charlotte who in my opinion, was an awful counselor and overall uncaring person. My session consisted of me talking for 2 mins about my random anxiety attacks, and then the rest of her talking about her qualifications, a convention she went to, and recommended I try trauma therapy like the soldiers who have PTSD. Then, abruptly said "I don't prescribe meds" and "I don't believe in medicating my patients", as if I were asking for pills? I had teary eyes (which she did not acknowledge or comfort me) because I was so angry for even working myself up to go there and ended my session early because I was so disappointed. Will not recommend/go back. read more

My daughter and I have been visiting regularly and Irma is my behavioral therapist, and she is awesome, speak both English and Spanish, for she has been a great support in conflicts cultural matter for me as a woman, profesional parent in a high level of adjust after country after living hear after 12 years. For my daughter Kerri has been amazing. At first and second appointment has individual therapist sessions with her and made great improvement help with depression and anxiety. Then a third session were address family concern with action plans as a homework and today my forth she reviewed it with her and we received a great feed back by addressing important options to make. My Son suffers from panic/anxiety attacks that have gotten really bad over the last couple of years. we have brought him here before and found a therapist that was a little helpful last time but she is no longer here. So i made an appointment with a new person. So when we first got there the receptionist checked us in and asked if we had been here before. I told her that yes we had been. Not once did she ask how long ago that was. We were 10 minutes early for a noon appointment. 15 minutes after our appointment time the therapist Brad Hammel went to the receptionist for our paperwork and she blamed us saying to the therapist in a loud whisper so we could hear that "well they said they had been here before so i believed them" Then she proceeds to come over and hand us some paperwork to fill out since if you haven't been back in within six months you have to do new paperwork. At this point i am pretty pissed off for her mistake but we are not there for me so i tried to ignore it. Finally the therapist take us back i think we were in the session for maybe 20 minutes where he proceeded to tell us that there is no medication you can take for anxiety attack and gives my son some crap exercise he can do if he has one --basically a waste of time. Fast forward to yesterday and today where my son had two massive attacks so we took him to a pediatrician who was a huge help to us and was able to prescribe some medications and treatments that will help. Not sure why the therapist would say there is no medications to take becuase obviously there are. just very disappointed in how we were treated. Now we have to go through Blomquist Hale because of my husbands employer other than that don't bother with this Place it's only for fluffy problems. read more

As the other reviewer mentioned, I"m forced to come here by my employer. I can go to someone else if I want, but I have to come here first and then get a referral for a "long term" provider. First, scheduling is a pain. The providers available here do this as a second job essentially, so different people are there on different days. Because people are required to come here before getting a referral, they're always busy. And, considering all the people coming here are employed (our employment insurance is what requires us to go here), evening appointments are almost impossible to get less than a month in advance. Basically, the care provided is limited. Second, the providers I saw did nothing but offer tips on relaxation and mindfulness. The first provider I saw was for a couple's counseling issue. Brock Yancy listened to our stories, but that's essentially all he did. Listen, and stare, and nod. Then at the end of it he gave us a handout about meeting each other's needs within the relationship. I swear this handout came straight from a 1964 Home Economics textbook. It listed things like "Women often resent having to work outside the home and be away from their children", or "Make sure to take care of yourself and present yourself favorably when your husband is around" (read: don't look ugly or your husband won't feel his needs have been met!). Completely unprofessional, outdated. We were there partly because I was having trouble with post-partum depression, and to hand me a worksheet that essentially says I should try to look better? Please. At the end of every visit, they always ask "So, would you like to come back?". Since this is a short-term counseling experience, it's evidently assumed you'll be good to go after a few quick sessions about relaxing. Instead of scheduling another appointment, mention you think you'd like a long-term counseling option instead and ask for a referral. Save yourself the trouble. read more
