Slate is definitely one of those stores. I stopped in on Christmas Eve just to browse around and I wish I could have bought everything in the place! It is a pretty hipster little store, and everything inside would be both useful to have in your home and serve as a conversation starter with guests. The items are unique, interesting, and high quality. There are kitchen gadgets, bar cart fixings, home decor items, greeting cards, jewelry...the list goes on. It's a great store and fits well with the Church Street aesthetic.

I ordered a beautiful Hutch online that cost over $3000. It was my combined birthday/Christmas…read moregift from my husband. The delivery was curbside drop off. This item was not in stock so I knew I would be waiting a few months to get it. I was out of town when the call came that it was ready to be delivered. I instructed my husband to look it over before signing off with the delivery guy. When it came, my husband looked it over. Looked at the one installed shelf that was covered in protective wrap and did not see any scratches. He looked at the other shelves and there was no noticeable damage. This unit is massive and the delivery guy told my husband to look quickly because he had to go. It took 3 men to get it into our house. The delivery guy was not going to wait for all of this and told my husband to sign and he went on his way. This item was not damaged by us or the delivery. When I got back in town and started putting the shelves in I started to notice the top shelf,which is attached to the metal sides of the hutch, looked a little bowed. When I put the other shelves in, it became obviously clear that the top shelf was installed too tightly or not cut down enough. If you put a level on the shelf the middle part of the shelf does not touch the level. It is definitely noticeable when looking at the hutch. When I I contacted Addison West, they said they would contact the manufacturer. After a few back-and-forths she offered me $300 so that I could fix the shelf myself. I explained that it is not fixable because it is attached to the side and doing so would damage the unit. She informed me that when we signed off for it with the delivery man that we accepted it. I told her the hutch wasn't damaged, it was a lemon. That's a manufacturer messed up and they should never have sent it to us in the first place. There was no damage, it was just not built correctly and that the "damage" could not be noticed until you started putting the other shelves into the unit. Now she offered $400. No exchange of the unit and we are stuck with this expensive hutch. That is not as advertised. I think this is poor business practice, and would never use this company again.

We found many treasures at The Birch Store! There are two levels here and plenty of things to look…read moreat. We ended up getting some blankets, scarves, kitchen wares, and even some chocolate. It's one of those tiny places that packs a lot of stuff into it. The people were friendly, but this isn't a cheap souvenir shop. I spent a lot but got some quality items that I will give out for Christmas gifts. It's worth checking out if you have some time to browse!

The store has rooms upstairs and downstairs. If you are looking for higher end gift or something pretty for your home, this is a surprising shop to find something special. It definitely feels like a boutique that would be in downtown Saratoga Springs or even NYC, not a country road in the Adirondack region. The staff was friendly but not pushy. My mom and I browsed through, enjoying all the pillows, wall art, kitchen items, and even a kids toys/clothing/decor section. We were able to find a few nice gifts and picked up some soap and lip balm for ourselves.

The store was much more sparse...now it's packed! Almost organized chaos. I can't walk in there without purchasing something. The woman working there was fun, friendly and helpful. I think there's another location in Saratoga, and the owner also owns the furniture store up the road....along with a local restaurant. They have a frequent shopper points situation for discounts at one of the multiple locations. They're located in the same section as the Merrell outlet.

It felt cramped and hard to maneuver inside. We went about 30 minutes before closing but got looks from the staff that we were prowling in the middle of the night.

Fabulous selection of home goods, mostly kitchen items, but also candles, soaps, linens, greeting cards, and I'm sure other items I have since forgotten. The problem is I didn't need anything, and we are already stuffed to the gills in our small little home with "stuff" anyway. Did that stop me? No, I bought a cute little bowl, maybe 2-3" in diameter only, that I will use for display purposes only in my kitchen window.
