There is a structure with shaded tables and bathrooms that can be rented for parties through the fairfax park site. If you do have a party there, it is a short and stroller friendly walk to the area with the picnic tables from the parking lot. Besides parking right by the soccer field/picnic table area and there's more parking across the street too. That parking area is by the water with ducks, geese, turtles, cranes and other wildlife. This is a great small neighborhood park, not something you travel far to see, but really great to have nearby for a short stroll and play sports at.

This new splash pad and playground serves as a reminder that damn Loudon County has some money. We got here at noon with our toddler and only planned to spend a couple of hours and ended up basically being here until they closed in the middle of summer at 8 PM. I think it's an amazing design to have three playground design for different ages right near the splash pad. Luckily it was like 5000° out so kids dried off the minute they left the waterpark to go to playgrounds. So being a wet mess really wasn't a concern. There are a few rules to the waterpark that includes no toys and no dogs and the standard diaper requirements for the incontinent , but otherwise it's pretty open and people were really really well behaved. The bathrooms are amazingly clean for a public bathrooms and offer wide enough stalls to change in. It's highly recommended because of temperatures and the fact that most of the place is concrete to wear water shoes. The only issue we had was that a baby kept putting wet banana peels like this was Mario kart in the splash pad and people kept tripping on them. Most of the water features are well functioning and a lot of fun. The playground themselves range from ages 5 to 12, and have a lot of hills with Astroturf, which is kind of fun to just roll down and they have slides built into them. There are a lot of climbing activities. The slides do get hot on a sunny day, but since the kids are already wet from the waterpark, they seem fine. And the park is very clean. We went on a weekday and it wasn't really that crowded, but I can see how weekends could be pretty full. They also have lots of tables for our families to sit down and enjoy some picnic items.

Yes, I'm a dedicated Mom, but Pat the Roc Basketball Academy is worth the sacrifice. My 13 year old daughter joined a new basketball team this summer to participate in the USJN tournament in September. They began training on Sundays in August with Pat. Ten minutes into their first session, I was completely hyped with this new partnership and my daughter was looking at me with the eyes of "please rescue me...I'm about to vomit." Match made in Heaven. As a former collegiate scholarship athlete, I know there comes a time as a teen when you decide if you're going to stay complacent with mediocrity or if you want to take it to the next level. That feeling of being challenged beyond what you think you can handle and making a decision to quit or persevere. I watched my teen take a quick breather and get back out there and run the drills. I'm not trying to get all-Oprah on you, but seriously, that defining moment is so important for athletes. Pat expects you to give your all during his training sessions. Whether it's conditioning or drills, all of it is preparation for a game situation. If you don't perpetually do it over and over again in practice, you can't master it in a game. Every drill has a purpose. My daughter is 6' but doesn't really jump because she never had to. She towers over the other girls her age. That will not fly in high school or showcase tournaments. He used a machine with her that made her jump up and GRAB the ball to throw to a guard running outlet. Just him noticing that shows me how in tune he is with players. I never told him a thing! He takes the time to explain each drill and how it is useful in game situations. The team has been working out with him for 6 sessions, two hours each, and it's been life changing. My daughter now understands why I will not allow her to play on certain mediocre teams because it can reverse her skills. She played at the USJN on this team with 10th and 11th graders (she's an 8th grader) and held her own - in demeanor and skill. Without his workouts, I can't honestly say that she would have competed the same. It gave her so much more confidence! After her first training session, she thought she was going to die. I've never seen her drink so much water! After complaining for a few minutes about how hard she worked, she passed out and slept the whole hour home! Now she looks forward to this training every week. She's ready quicker than I can get out of bed! Once you experience a coach or trainer at another level, you never want to go back.

Sounded just right for my 14-year old son who is a solid player who has been playing for years and looking for more game experience. Unfortunately, it was really a waste of $200. Practices were unfocused with no attempt at skill development. Playing time for players who were not as strong was often minimal, just a couple minutes per game or sometimes no time at all, despite the coach's promises to the contrary. Coach was focused on winning the game rather than giving all kids a chance to play. Families should know that depending on coach and child's skill, playing time may be minimal. This is just not what we expected given how league was promoted. Another problem was that many games were scheduled 9 pm-10 pm (if on time) on school nights, much too late for high school students needing to get up early the next morning for school. When I complained to the commissioner I was told that I was the only one with these problems, yet I know other families shared the same concerns with me. Poorly run overall. If you live near Olney, try the Olney Boys and Girls Club, a very well run organization that really does promote giving each child a chance to learn and play.
