A $127,000 (PLUS) error!! If you're considering Block Advisors (H&R Block) for your taxes, read what happened to me last year before you make that mistake. The financial ramifications were severe! I sold my house at the end of 2020, so when I called Linda Mar Block Advisors in early 2021, I explained that this was THE most important meeting of my life, as I needed to determine the tax ramifications of the sale, specifically my Capital Gains Tax. They set up an appointment in March with their "best tax professional." I brought in all of my paperwork and after 2.5 hours (30 minutes past closing), of talking things through (and hearing all about her personal life), I had to leave. I asked her what she projected for my Capital Gains Tax and she said, "It looks like around $90,000." After 6 voicemails and 5 emails asking when she'd be finishing my taxes, with NO REPLY, I had to involve the manager who went on and on about how that's not how they treat their customers, etc., etc. When my taxes were FINALLY completed 4 WEEKS later, my property taxes were not $90,000 but turned out to be $217,000!!!! I understand that it was her best guess at that time, but it's not even CLOSE! Unfortunately, thinking I had enough in reserve, I decided to start donating $5,000 each to various animal shelters, $1,000 each to a few single moms I knew were struggling, etc. Well, my bad I know, but I figured I could afford it. Obviously, when the tax bill arrived, I was crushed! I asked what I could do, and their "best" told me I didn't have to pay it now, the government just "needs to see intent to pay." Despite asking several times how I go about that, she kept directing me to just log into their website. I did, and long story short, she was wrong and I started accruing interest and penalties ON TOP OF the huge tax bill!! More money spent due to their "expert." I finally met with a different person in their office who said she could help me pay the State tax bill online, so we sat together and I gave her my credit card info so she could do it for me on her computer. When she handed me the printout, I noticed an ADDITIONAL fee of $440!! I asked what that was for and she immediately said she didn't know, but also immediately wrote down the phone number of whatever entity handled the transaction and said I could call them and ask them to waive the fee. Ok. So I called and guess what? I was told that not only would they not waive the fee, but that Block gets a percentage of that fee!! So the "expert" knew all along!! More money spent due to another "expert." I called the manager again about the entire situation and long story short, she said no one had given me any of the advice I stated, despite her not even being there during these conversations (and despite them actually happening)! I was livid! It took me two separate credit cards at a ridiculous interest rate to pay the government and I even had to sell my SUV (which I loved) so I could use that money to pay with because of this. More money spent due to another "expert." Oh, and I paid around $600 for their "expert" work. I still don't know who I'm using this year, but I will NEVER use Block Advisors again and I will post this story every single year at tax time because of their ineptitude!! read more

DO NOT GO HERE if you want your taxes done correctly and professionally. I am specifically speaking about Tax Advisor Marguerite Guerrero. I lost total trust in her ability to understand and execute tax law due to several major mistakes she made and alarming comments she made. I went in to Linda Mar H & R Block on March 10th, 2022, to do my taxes. I made it clear that I needed my taxes done quickly because I needed that final doc to send to a lender to buy a house. First off, I added all my docs to the portal ahead of time but she said she could not access them, had me go to my house and get my laptop, and then send all of them to her individually. Three hours later she told me I owed money and I HAD TO REMIND HER that I contributed to my IRA. She apologized for forgetting about it and I was owed money after that. She informed me I could expect my refund within a few days to a week. When that time came and went I had to call and she told me that they were in peer review. Then a got a stream of emails asking follow-up questions which I answered. When I called to check the status she dodged my calls and told the front desk person to tell me that she was working on them. I have called every other day and I keep getting told by a third party that she would have them done that night or the next morning. This has happened several times. It is now April 8th, 2022, and when I called this morning, she was the one to answer the phone so I asked her what was going on. Without going into personal details about my taxes, she said that a real estate part of it was the issue. This lady Marguerite then said that the other tax advisors in the office knew more than her. Mind you, my taxes are the same as last year, which were filed without a hitch. I asked her why she couldn't perform her duties and get my taxes filed when they were the same as last year. She said that she would not jeopardize her tax license for anyone. No one was trying to come for her license! This woman did not apologize to me, dodged my calls repeatedly, and my taxes are still not done. I have since escalated the issue and intend on speaking with her manager. When I called customer service they were able to get me an appointment today with a different Master Tax Advisor from a different office and they were nice about it. Seriously, if you want your taxes done correctly with the care and attention hey deserve, DO NOT GO HERE. read more

I have PRAISES for Marguerite Guerrero Tax Pro. If there were 100 stars, I would give it to her and to this Linda Mar location. I do not believe the negative reviews for this location and I do not believe the negative reviews for Marguerite Guerrero. She reviewed my paperwork with a fine tooth & comb and uncovered items that I can claim which saved me $$. My individual tax prepared by her was exceptional. She knows all the tax laws and she's up to date on the tax laws. Again - I don't know believe any negative reviews about her ! read more

I brought my tax forms in a couple months before due date. I called a couple weeks later and Margueritte told me I need a foreign tax form, which I didn't. After I showed her this was not needed, she thought of another reason to delay. When my return was finally done, I saw they scanned my documents over a month after I dropped them off, so they lied to me on more than one occasion. After paying a great deal, my taxes were filed. Then a few months later I get a letter from the IRS claiming I owe about a thousand dollars. This is a horrible and unprofessional office. read more

This place has people who don't have an idea of what they are doing working there. I wish I would of knew that before proceeding with my taxes. The lady doing my taxes kept having to go ask an actual tax preparer for help. She more than likely did not do my taxes right. DO NOT GO HERE UNLESS YOU ARE MEETING WITH AN ACTUAL TAX PREPARERS. We are not practice dummies, you cannot practice/learn how to do taxes on real people. This is our life and if I get audited the lady probably wouldn't even know what to do or help get me out the situation she got me in. Bad for business. read more

Been going to this branch FOREVER!!! Loved them. Unfortunately. 2 years in a row I have been audited. They made good on thier Peace of Mind. And fixed the mistakes. This year we filed our taxes on the 5th. On the 24th I still had not received my return. Called the IRS to find my taxes were NEVER filed!!! Called and they could not find my file!! After calling anyone that would hear me I called again to find out my file was in the back room oops see forgot to submit them BUT we sent them now..... Gee thanks! They mentioned that they would refund thier fees BUT maybe they might forget to submit that too!!! Deuces HR Block!! read more
