I have been using this office for 9 years now. They have always been very very knowledgeable and easy to work with. Priscilla is great!

Chandler & Knowles CPAs - Rochelle Chandler, CPA

    Chandler & Knowles CPAs

DO NOT file taxes or an LLC with Chandler Knowles. You will be wasting your money, In addition,…read moreif you have more than a 10 minute drive to their office, do not waste your time. A 40-minute trip to deliver documents cost me a 1 hour fee. Despite the owner being "too busy" to introduce herself, she charged me for "consultation" services. My consultation consisted of sitting alone in a conference room, introducing myself to her administrator, and handing over my files. Ruthless and no concern for you or your company.

I would not recommend this firm. Chandler did amend the return at no charge but advised me it was my responsibility to make sure the entire return is correct. I'm not a CPA which is why I paid them for their expertise. I chalked it up to a one time mistake, but the next year I went over the return page by page, line by line, and found multiple mistakes (since it's my responsibility according to them so I spent hour and hours reviewing every line item). Chandler had to modify the return at least 3 times and make many corrections before it could be submitted to the IRS. These were mistakes I found (not them). What is the point of hiring and paying a CPA to file my tax return if I need to learn all the tax laws to find their mistakes. I had to proofread all their work but their fee was never discounted for the countless hours I had to spent proofing the return and bringing errors to their attention. I even had to bring to their attention a typo transposing numbers, a mathematical error, as well as a major error whereas they reflected tax free funds as taxable funds. Needless to say I decided to find a new CPA going forward as I had no confidence in their ability to prepare my return accurately. Fortunately, I found a highly competent CPA that I am working with now and have been for several years. My new CPA even went back and found more mistakes (that I didn't know about as I'm not a CPA). I had to pay my new CPA to amend mistakes from their original work. I didn't even ask Chandler to amend the old return to fix their mistakes as did not want to have any further relationship with them as trust was gone and I moved on to another CPA who I paid to amend the return previously filed by Chandler. The people at Chandler are very nice people, but I just do not have confidence of the accuracy of my returns they prepared so I found a new CPA. I shouldn't have to have CPA knowledge to hire a CPA to complete my return. I provide my CPA with proper documentation and while I still review the return before it is submitted, I expect my CPA to prepare an accurate return. I do hope that things have changed for them as this was several years ago and hope they are doing a more thorough review of their work. I wish them the best of luck. I didn't even want to write this review as they were nice people but a friend of mine said it would be wrong not to write the review. In the end, I do hope these were just training issues that have since been resolved so this does not happen to anyone else.

    Michael R Powell Cpa

Avoid this tax preparer at all costs. My experience with Michael Powell, CPA, was a disaster from…read morestart to finish -- in fact, one of the most bizarre experiences I've ever had. I filed my 2024 taxes with him. After I filled out all the information, I signed my return on March 22 and paid him. He confirmed that all the information was correct and told me he would file my taxes ASAP. Despite that, I began receiving tax non-payment notices from both the IRS and the Arizona Department of Revenue. In 43 years of filing taxes, I have never once been late. When I contacted Mr. Powell, he was dismissive and uncooperative, then finally admitted he had not filed my 2024 returns until the end of June -- months late. Shockingly, he did not seem concerned about his failure. If there's one date a tax preparer should never forget, it's April 15. He clearly could not have cared less. I followed up with a formal demand letter to document this call and his admission. When he finally responded, he claimed he had written letters to the IRS and Arizona tax authorities admitting fault and promised to work with them directly to cover my penalties. But this never happened. Deadlines came and went while he did nothing. I had no choice but to spend hours on the phone and over email with both agencies myself. Eventually, I paid the penalties out of pocket and sent him proof of payment along with a second demand letter asking for reimbursement -- including the filing fee he charged me for a return he filed late. At one point, he even claimed he had filed an extension -- something I later confirmed was false, and which he had no legal right to do without my permission. This is unacceptable behavior from any CPA. Under IRS Circular 230 (31 C.F.R. Part 10), tax professionals have a duty of competence and due diligence in preparing and filing returns. Failing to file on time and misrepresenting the status of an extension is a direct violation of those duties. Additionally, under Arizona Revised Statutes §32-741 and §32-746, a CPA is required to exercise integrity, objectivity, and due professional care -- standards Mr. Powell clearly ignored. I did everything required of me -- I signed my return in March, paid him, and trusted him to file -- yet he failed to do so. His lack of professionalism, honesty, and accountability caused me financial loss, wasted time, and needless stress. I have since contacted the appropriate authorities to request that his license be revoked. My advice is simple: stay away from this CPA. Don't risk becoming the next victim of his negligence.
