Although we ran into a few design/engineering issues during the process, we were able to work them out for a satisfactory outcome. I found the crew easy to work with. They were very careful around my wife's flowers, which is greatly appreciated. Jancewicz and Son is a much more professional contractor then others we have dealt with in the last few years. I would not hesitate to hire them again.

Update for review from fall of 2022: There are better, local…read moreand less expensive slate roof repair co's to hire. This is how Jancewicz operates: You call, they arrive and send up a drone for in depth photos of roof. Impressive. They come in for discussion of job. You choose slate and ridgecap colors. They come again in a week with contract which is always exceedingly high. Ours was $14,000 to replace a handful of tiles and two ridge caps. Yes, I've asked other customers and roofers about them--always high priced. Also they left the chimney repair out of the contract. The drone showed damage, it was discussed, but not included. I asked about that and the rep shrugged. Red flag! They brag repeatedly about this "great 80 year old company... " to impress you. So they are great, reliable etc. Right? Don't fall for it, they are no better than anyone else. But, out of desperation to get the roof fixed before winter you sign the contract. They come out with old, raggedy used slate. Not new slate which can be expensive and would help to explain the high cost of job. Explanation was that they couldn't match the old slate. This wasn't brought up by rep. Also brought ridge caps that are not your color. Sent them back for correct ones. Towards the end of job, Jancewicz demanded an additional $3000 for the chimney repair work on top of hefty $14,000 slate roof repair. "No way, should have been in contract," was my response. "We'll take care of it!" We hired a local company to repoint and replace flashing at roofline for $800. Great job. No more leaking into ceilings. Saved $2300. Yes, I'm wiser now. The job took 10 days, not the 3 days they stated. It wasn't rain that kept them away as they were no shows on some beautiful clear days. Go local, get referrals from people you know. These guys are no better. They advertise, that's all.

After reading Ginger's review (see below) I see strong similarities between our experience and realize that I was overly-generous in my original review. We gave Mike a deposit to cover 2 small tasks for the roof. He completed one, couldn't do the other. KEPT THE ENTIRE DEPOSIT! After accepting our deposit, but before figuring out he had mis-estimated the job and his ability, he had one excuse after another for coming very late, not showing up at all, and bringing his girl friend and toddler to "help."

Mike Kemp required a sizable down payment and showed up 2 months later randomly. When job required…read moreextensive unforeseen structural repairs - I needed to know new costs before continuing- it took over a month to get a new estimate. Original deposit was not factored in although materials were not purchased and labor costs did not come close to being utilized. Even without these major and costly issues, Mike's work habits were unreliable and unprofessional. Numerous excuses for not starting, not being available and not showing up to work when planned. These excuses lead to delays and possible future issues and costs with structural exposure caused by partial siding removal going into winter. As a widowed senior, I trusted him and lost a substantial amount of money and am now forced to seek legal action, which will be an additional expense.

He was contracted to build a front porch, put up siding and a metal roof. He said he would be done in 1 week, it's now 9 weeks later and snowing....no roof, no siding and one screwed up porch! Not to mention he said that they would be responsible for cleaning up their mess. I think the pictures show how well that worked out. After not being able to reach him for over a week, he didn't respond to phone calls, text or emails. (My niece even called the State Prison to find out if he was behind bars). They sent him a text and called to tell him that he was fired, effective immediately. Oh he responded to that call. Pictures of text are included in my photos. If you read all his responses to the other reviews. Nothing is ever his fault! We've contacted the Secretary of State as well as our local police. (They are afraid that this psychopath will do something to their house) And an attorney to try and recover some of their money. This is a WARNING to everyone, do NOT hire this company!! Update: he goes by 5 different names and wanted in several states.

Then I offered to send pictures of the metal roof repair along with the specifications I had on the roof. He said he appreciated that and would call me the next day. That was nine days ago. I had also contacted him through Yelp to be sure he recieved my email. I gathered this roofing information and sent it to him to make the most of his time. Unfortunately, he has no respect for anyone else's. He didn't have the courtesy to respond one way or the other. If the job was something he didn't want to take on, then a simple email saying so would suffice. Apparently, that was too inconvenient. Even easier than that would be for him just to say he's not interested when discussing it over the phone. Why have me gather this stuff, send it to him, and then... nothing? Of course finding out now is much better than actually trying to get him to come back and finish any work he started after paying him. So in way, its just as well. ********************************************* UPDATE: The response from the business owner speaks for itself; angry, entitled, misleading and threatening. You can imagine his response if you need to call him back to repair a mistake. Actually there is no need to imagine, just read the review from 'Jocelyn' in which this business broke the law by not calling Dig Safe and then denied everything. He damaged her property and won't return her calls (sounds familiar). And calling Dig Safe couldn't be easier, its just three numbers - 811. It costs nothing and takes two minutes. So if that is too much trouble for this contractor, what do you think the quality of his work would be? Maybe its fine and maybe its not. Use all information available to you to make the right decision in who you hire.
