I love Blick in general. I used to work down the street from a location in Chicago that was TWO FLOORS and I could spend hours in there. It was my favorite place to brows. Now, this Blick isn't two floors, in fact their one floor is only a fraction of that other store, but not every location can be that stacked. It's a smaller footprint but they pack a lot in. You don't usually get to see ceramic glazes and underglazes in arts & craft stores but they carry some which made me really happy as I was able to find a few of the underglazes I had been looking for. They also carry the Mayco brand (which no other ceramics specialty shops in the area I've been to carry) and I was able to find a few of their colors that I had had on my wish list. They have a ton of brushes, canvas, paints, pencils, solvents, etc, etc. All at various price points, so no matter what your background is, professional artist or novice, you can find something to either get you started or help you hone your craft. In addition to the art supplies they do have a small section of some miscellaneous gifty-type things which are also fun to browse (many of which would make great stocking stuffers). My last visit I got a keychain tape measure and I can't tell you how often I use that thing. Best couple of bucks I've ever spent! The other thing worth noting is that they do offer a "buy online pick up in the store" option which is great if you're in a hurry. If they don't have what you're looking for in shop they can find it for you in their online store. I've searched for some really random stuff over the years and I've always at least been able to find it on their website. Staff here is very nice and helpful. I go to this location often for art supplies, and I recently went here to have a piece framed. Received good customer service regarding what type and color of frame I wanted as well as the matboard color, and the process for submitting my order was straightforward and smooth. The turnaround time was a bit long (over a month and a half), but I adjusted my expectations accordingly since it WAS the holiday season. The quality of the finished framed piece was excellent. Stopped here because I had never been to a Blick store before, and I wanted some new sketch pens. I was impressed with the choices they had to offer. The sketch pads were also a very good quality. Looking forward to using the items I purchased! The staff was helpful, and checked on me to see if I needed any assistance. The person working at the register was helpful too. This place is another hidden Dearborn gem. I've been coming here for years now and for some reason I always forget to check in and Yelp it. First this store is amazing for all levels of artist. They carry high quality paints, pencils, and markers for the serious and if you are not the serious artist type just doing it to relax they offer more reasonable priced supplies. Next the staff has always been extremely friendly and helpful to me never giving me the feel that they were looking down on me for my lack of knowledge whenever I try to explore a new artistic avenue. Lastly, one thing that I really like about the store is if you are signed up as a Blick member at check out if a product you have has a better price online it will automatically adjust it to give you the lower price! read more

Staff is knowledgeable and very helpful. I was looking for paint to match a restoration project I was working on and was directed to and aided in the paints and colors I needed. Another year and another hobby, this time it's watercolors! The salesperson was knowledgable, friendly, and really knew her merchandise. I didn't want the entry level materials, but no where near the level of a professional - she steered me in the right direction. Blick is the It stop for inexpensive art supplies. They have the best collection of supplies that I have seen for the prices that they offer. They also give great help if you ask. They really explain things well regardless if you are a seasoned artist or a beginner -- they are passionate about this and will give you the best advice on what materials to use. When I say inexpensive, I mean cheap -- and for the best new art supplies available. I got my supplies for my drawing class here for a fraction of what my classmates did in Ann Arbor. Disclaimer: I love Dick Blick already. As an art student in the middle of no-art-store-land, the sales and shipping costs were great. This store is a great example of how sweet they are. The service was stellar. The guys were kind, helpful and completely sold me more stuff just on the friendly suggestion alone. Also they offered me a paper mustache that they had made! Yay for Blick! A long while ago, Blick used to be called The Art Store, and that's how I remembered it back in CA. However, considering that back then, there were so many more options of art stores in CA, specifically LA, I didn't go there too often because prices were on the higher side to the competition. Now that my options are fewer here in MI, and while I always try to be creative with art supplies, sometimes, I can't avoid it, so I have to go to the store. Compared to Utrecht, Blick still has a better selection of product, and their prices are much cheaper. Sure maybe Utrecht has a closer location to me, but I'd still drive to Dearborn so that I could have more choices. I came here on a Monday afternoon, and completely forgot that some art schools were beginning their fall semester. Luckily, when I was there, it wasn't too busy, but since the place is pretty compact, I still had to weave around a few people. I can only imagine when all the students come back here to grab their supplies what a mad house it will be! While I was perusing the aisles, what I ultimately came here for was a Pina Zangaro portfolio or presentation box. They had the portfolio books, but with all the elements being separate and costing quite a bit of $$, I passed on it this time and bought a more traditional Prat portfolio book. I also walked away with a new self-healing cutting mat. Price for the 2 items? $96, but it's expected. Portfolios are not cheap for the leather hardcover, and self-healing cutting mats you only have to replace once ever 10 years or more, depending on how well you take care of it. Who says art supplies are cheap? It's just part of the trade. Anyhow, I was happy to find what I needed, and the guys that were running the store were hilarious and very helpful. Their anecdotes with their competitor cracked me up. All the while, they are attentive to each customer's needs, and being honest and upfront about where you can save a little. I will most certainly come back here when I need art supplies, big or small. And since right now is still back to school season, they are offering 10% off for all people to get a Blick card. Typically, only students are eligible for this card, but right now, everybody can get one. So, stop on by! What can I say about this store............ AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!! Dick Blick has the best quality art supplies period and their selection beats the pants of Micheals. It's not just the quality of the materials that makes this store one of a kind. It's also the very friendly and knowledgeable staff. Being artist's themselves they know exactly how to help you with your projects. Always warm and welcoming when you walk in and not like the Walmart android greeters. If you have never been and your an artist get in your car and go. NOW!!!!!!!! It's about a 30 min drive for me but it's well worth the drive if you ask me. I'm kind of a Prismacolor marker junkie, so I definitely appreciate that they have a decently large selection. I've found about 90% of the things I was looking for here, which is pretty good. This is a great store that is under new management. Well laid out, with supplies ranging from student to professional grade. The employees are artists themselves and have tons of combined knowledge.
