I loved that in spite of the chilly 40 degree temps, patrons were sitting at benches outside with blankets provided by the bar enjoying their drinks. When we arrived it was 10:45 and when we asked as we sat down when they closed, the young bartender told us they closed at 11pm, but would let us know when last call came around. We ordered a couple of lovely German reds and proceeded to enjoy another hour or so of conversation and another glass of wine. Finally at nearly midnight we hear last call. While we didn't partake, we watched the the bartenders putting together lovely plates of charcuterie and cheese with bread. As we'd just had dinner, we just couldn't eat another bite, but it all looked so good. They had a great selection of wines and friendly service.

In my experience there, even though the staff has always been nice and friendly, the service has always been very slow. It takes almost half an hour for them to serve drinks. I even witnessed a young couple leaving as no one actually paid attention to them on a Friday night. Moreover, the drinks such as beer, which are supposed to be cold, are often served warm or "not cold enough". In terms of food, mini-bruschettas served at the beginning taste really good and signal you are going to eat high quality food here. I really like beef carpaccio and mushroom-filled raviolis. Also, wine selection is quite rich. Still, I believe the portions a little small compared to prices. I would say that overall Vineria de Angelo is a nice place to eat good quality Italian food yet its slow service and bad price/performance ratio render the place "just another Italian restaurant" in Bonn. Even though I believe it is the best Italian restaurant in Poppelsdorf, it is good for a casual lunch and dinner, but not for special days.

This somewhat…read morehighly touted boutique restaurant is, in my humble and usually generous opinion, a bit of a fraud. The set three or four course menu when I dined there recently was almost from start to finish a hyperglicemic's worst nightmare, every course from the scallop starter to the miniscule (fortunately) serving of kohlrabi "souped" up with vanilla, mango and other sweets to the sweet reduction on the beef. Not to mention the beef was served with SWEET potatoes. The scallop course had chunks of sweetened miniature corn and was topped for who knows what reason with crushed corn nuts! Scallops are somewhat delicate and the corn nuts really did them in. To give them credit the wines were good from different regions of Germany and France. To top things off, between the second and main course I was served a cup of espresso. Well, I thought, here's something novel, an intermezzo surprise to cleanse the palate after all the cloying sweetness but the surprise was that it was mis-delivered to me instead of to another table. We muddled through the menu with what we knew and some guesses and a bit of help with Google translator. My wife went with the white asparagus risotto while I ordered one of the specials which we paired with a bottle of Riesling. Now to be fair I knew I was ordering a meat per the German word "fleisch". But I didn't recognize the type. Well "sülzfleisch" it turns out was a type of headcheese, home made, with a sauce on the side and baked potatoes. I was surprised but dug in. Both dishes were excellent! Great food and relaxed atmosphere. Worth stopping by.
