Had company give estimate on removing 12 solar panels from my lake house and reinstalling panels so…read moreI could get new roof on house. Two employees from company visited my house. One representative said the cost to do the work would be $6000.00. The other employee said they could do the job for $4500.00. I told them both prices were too high as two other companies had said they would do the job for much less. One company said they would charge $1800.00 to remove and reinstall the panels. The other company said they would do the job for $2400.00. One of the men said, in a smart aleckly way, I would take the $1800.00 offer. I told him that I would take that offer once the estimate from the company that installed the system gave me an estimate, which is expected in the next two days. I told the representatives that I only paid a little over $10,000 for the entire system four or five years ago and would not pay half the cost of the system to get it removed for a day to get a new roof. This company's prices are entirely too high. I suspect the men did not want the job for some reason and quoted a ridiculously high price, knowing that I would not accept it. It is possible the company was just trying to gouge me price wise. Had their quotes been in line with the other quotes I got I would have given them the job. I had a similar job done two years ago at another house I owned in which 12 solar panels were removed and the 12 microinverters on the panels were replaced with new ones. The crew that did that job worked three entire days and charged only $2200.00. My advice for potential customers of Wilderness Trace Solar would be to get several estimates from other solar companies because their prices are outrageous. I hope the company owner realizes how high the company estimates are and how much business he/she is losing because of high estimates on solar jobs.
