On first glance this appears as a relatively decent gift shop however when you proceed inside you will find a trove of smashing gifts, books and very special used books. The staff are helpful and friendly and you are sure to something for any special occasion from new arrivals to a special birthday. Looking towards the second hand books there are a vast variety of children's books through to the rear of the shop. These range from your run of the mill to your rarer collector's items. If you are in the vicinity then well worth the visit.

Last time I visited, there was also a selection of locally produced honey, chutney and other preserves. From incense to hand carved furniture, oriental glassware to a traditional Scottish quaich, this tardis-like gift shop has something to suit most tastes and budgets. It's a light and airy shop that invites you to venture further into the treasure trove to discover some really unusual ornaments and woodcraft. The assortment of aromas of pot pourri, handmade soaps and scented candles is verging on delicious! There's quite a selection of greetings cards, jewellery, wrapping paper, presentation boxes, novelty goods and gift bags. I particularly liked the haggis whistles! It's a locally owned business with a proprietor who obviously takes great pride in his work. The store's website, although basic, does mean you can telephone or enquire about items online, order gifts & vouchers and arrange home deliveries, which is a huge advantage to many. Certainly not a shop to be passed by if you are visiting the Wigtown area of Newton Stewart.

An absolutely brilliant wee bookshop and cafe. We stumbled upon it while on holiday near Newton…read moreStewart trying to get out the rain and in search of a coffee and cake to warm up and dry off. The place immediately hit us as cosy and very quirky. The resident spaniel welcomed us followed by the chatty friendly owner. We had a potter round the books and then went into the cafe which is on the small side but very bright and sweet and decorated ceiling to floor with books. So we read and ate (food was fab, we had the soup which came with very lovely bread and butter then coffee and a fat piece of double chocolate cake and a scone). The place was packed and had a nice atmosphere and everyone elses food looked really lovely too. The waitress was really nice and interested and told us about the self catering rooms upstairs that we might try next time as we have a dog and this place is dog friendly. Left with good holiday reading and an armful of jars of homemade whisky marmalade. Wouldn't hesitate to recommend! :)
