While driving along the Gulf coast on the way to Destin, I noticed a sign for the store on my left hand side. I've always enjoyed archery and wanted to test my shot at least once in my life, but was always quite intimidated. I've past up the opportunity to experience a range countless times prior but after seeing the recent contest in the Olympics, I figured what the heck, let's just at least check it out. Upon walking in, I told the fellas behind the counter that we're from 100% newbies, have never shot or even held a gun before, and were visiting from New York. One employee grinned and jokingly remarked "ohh just the words we love to hear", to which we all had a good chuckle. We told them our intentions of going to the range for the first time and they were very patient and informative every step of the way. First, they gave us an 45 minutes to an hour of private safety instruction. They went over the do's and don'ts, foundational aspects of stance, safety and aim. Our instructor was very clear, calm and professional. After we felt comfortable enough and passed his standards, we were on our way to the actual range. While dawning proper ear and eye protection, we were allowed to pick any guns we'd like, and could swap out anytime. What was so unexpected and neat about it all, was the price! We shot one full box of ammo, tried a handgun and a rifle, for about an hour or so, all for only $70! If we had time, we were told we could literally stay there the entire day, as the main charge is really only for the ammo. While I'm totally guessing here, I'd totally assume it would be 2-3x that up here in New York. While I'm not sure this is an activity I'd do again, I'm certainly glad to have tried it and can cross it off my list. Big thanks to Oak Ridge Gun Club for being so patient and professional. I'd recommend them to anyone whose in the area looking to give it a try.

I went here for my re-qualification…read more I've been involved in law enforcement and armed security since 2012. Army Veteran of 8 years. And been through a multitude of firearms training. whether it's military, law enforcement , or security this is by far the best training if you're a beginner, novice or even experienced. I witnessed these guys qualify people who are new to firearms. so if you're new and getting into armed security this is where you want to go. And for the experienced guys who are just trying to get re-qualified or make your way back into security. This is also for you. It's a very laid back environment. Where you can be yourself and learn a thing or two from men who have been there and done that and then some! I never sugar coat things. So if you can't qualify with these guys you don't need to be in armed security.

Many in the class had never fired a firearm and had many questions which were answered professionally and time was allocated to those that needed it. Additionally, they offer many popular firearms to try before you buy. They offer law enforcement discounts for the range on Mondays, and Wednesday's are for military discounts. Went to this frame for the first time tonight, and I really enjoyed it…read more The range safety officers are attentive but aren't so rigid that they are breathing down everyone's necks. Everyone in the place was extremely friendly and helpful. I've been to other ranges but not to this one, but they got me up to speed quickly to let me know what the rules were since every range is slightly different. They have plenty of parking and great hours. They had a short wait when we showed up, but it cleared out quickly. I wish they could do two things differently: 1. I wish they had a shelf in the back of each lane to place your bag and gear. 2. I wish they had annual memberships that would allow you to shoot for free for an hour at a time if there is a line or all day if there isn't. My old range was like that, and you got to know the RSOs and even fellow shooters. Had a gun/shooting club feel to it. I'd recommend the place. It's a fun date night. We'll definitely be back.
