No calls. No email. No mail. No reason for me to think I owed them money. 3 years later, I need emergency oral surgery, for which I had to wait a week for a consultation. A day before the consultation the receptionist called me and cancelled the appointment due to small unpaid debt. She was fairly rude about it in a "bless your heart" kind of way. I asked if I get it squared up with their lawyer could we keep the appointment. She said no, and that they would have to get verification that the payment was made and after that it would be the surgeons decision whether or not to accept me as a patient. I immediately called the lawyer and paid the amount. They said that they were notified and tried to reach me at an old address. They never attempted to call. They never attempted email. They said they would let Roanoke Oral Surgery know the amount was paid same day. I might be a weird edge case, but at this point, I feel like Roanoke Oral Surgery mishandled the situation and I question their administrative competence. I am going with another provider, even if I have to wait longer. 0/10 - Do not recommend.

Four extractions as well as some serious dental work. I have always taken good care of my teeth. I am just not genetically blessed. 3 of the four extractions were root canals I had in my early 20's. Needless to say they had to come out. After healing up from that process and the additional dental work. I had to do the affordable thing and get dental partials for the open spaces. At this time bridge work is nit in my budget. But she made all of this process easier by her patience. She explained everything to me. She and her assistant and team (Tanisha) could not do enough for me. I want to thank them all. Even the front desk ladies and all who keep it going there. They do the best they can. Thanks Dr. Neil. I'm writing this to warn others after an experience that caused months of pain, stress, loss of…read moretrust, and financial cost. I scheduled an appointment for four cavity fillings and left with seven teeth drilled and filled, without this ever being discussed or consented to beforehand. I only learned about the additional work after the procedure. The lack of professionalism was alarming. At my first visit, a hygienist made unsolicited negative comments about the dentist to my partner, who was also a patient. During the filling appointment, a different assistant of his apologized mid-procedure and said, "If we would have stuck to the schedule, we'd be done by now. [The provider] always does this," suggesting the dentist went off plan while working in my mouth. Shortly after, I developed bite pain, sensitivity, and clicking in teeth that were healthy before treatment. Multiple follow-up visits provided little improvement, and at one point the dentist even suggested tooth removal. I ultimately sought care elsewhere, where conservative bite adjustments were made that actually helped. Unfortunately, the damage progressed. One tooth filled here later developed irreversible nerve damage requiring a root canal on a tooth that never needed one before. The administrative issues were just as concerning. I waited seven months for a "TMJ device" that turned out to be an oversized bite guard, which I cannot use due to the pain caused by the work that was done. I also requested my records when switching providers and was forced to wait months before receiving them. Had the Virginia Board of Dentistry not intervened on my behalf, I would likely still be waiting. To their credit, they ultimately adjusted my bill so that I only paid for toothpaste, reducing the balance by approximately $350, which was appreciated. That said though, I am now facing the significant cost of a root canal that resulted from this care. Most troubling of all, after I began voicing concerns and after explicitly requesting that all further communication take place via email following a disrespectful and accusatory phone interaction with a receptionist, a hygienist took my personal phone number from my chart and contacted me using her private cell phone. She asked me not to tell the office and attempted to speak with me off the record. This was completely inappropriate. And lastly, please do not be misled by the many five-star reviews. Many reflect experiences with his father, not this provider. Between the lack of informed consent, unprofessional behavior, poor-quality work, extensive corrective care, records delays, and serious boundary violations, I strongly recommend avoiding this office.
