Traveling with Two Bags? We'll see if we can make it fit...
I've used Blacklane for years (NYC, Europe, CA, etc.) with generally good results. We booked a pickup at Madrid's airport for two passengers. We had two checked pieces of luggage and two carry-ons.
Our driver walked us the car and half attempted to load our two bags into the trunk. The trunk had children's seats and other items -- with barely any skill in trying to pack the trunk, he determined that:
* the two checked bags would not fit in the trunk
* nothing could go in the cabin itself (although, one of the bags could have gone on the front seat with the carry-ons easily placed in the trunk.
He then announced that he could drive us to the hotel but we would need to put the luggage in a taxi (really??).
Blacklane admits that the car could not accommodate our two checked bags (regular sized Rimowa and Briggs and Riley bags) but claims that for safety (the interior of the car, apparently), the two carry-ons placed us in violation of their policy (strictly two bags, even though the E-Class could not accommodate two bags).
The driver shrugged his shoulders and pointed us to the taxi stand. No problem there, a regular taxi accommodated our luggage and we were at the hotel in 30 minutes.
Unfortunately, Blacklane will not refund the fare (they offered a 25 euro voucher but not even a partial refund). We have used Blacklane for years (and recommended them); but, I see that we may have just managed to avoid getting burned in the past.
Customer service has operated with circular arguments that fail to acknowledge that the car was not big enough to meet their own commitment of two bags. Perhaps they should publish the accepted dimensions (and train their drivers on how to load the trunk).
If your hope is a worry-free pickup, it is better to use another service (we will). read more
