What a great meal! We came for their daily special. Today was the chicken fried chicken. It was delicious! It had very generous portions of perfectly cooked chicken fried chicken, mashed potatoes, green beans that were seasoned to perfection and a piece of Texas toast. The restaurant was very inviting and the waitress was extremely friendly and attentive. They had a really large area outside to eat if it was a beautiful day which also had a bar area. Inside they had several different areas to eat at. It would be a perfect place for a large group. I would highly recommend to check out their specials of the day and to give them a try. Here in South Padre Island my mom and I stopped in Blackbeard's for lunch. At first I was nervous since I am deathly allergic to shellfish. Our really good waiter assured me that it was safe to eat here. They cook everything in sections like fish in one section, steak in another, etc. I had the most delicious chicken fried chicken ever, the coleslaw was creamy and crunchy, and the onion rings are top notch! We've been coming to South Padre for years, and every time we visit, someone suggests we go to Blackbeards. I finally decided to leave a review because, truthfully, it's never been a place I actually enjoy--but it always feels like one of the few dining options on the island. The wait is for big parties is often long, which I'd be more understanding about if the service made up for it. Unfortunately, it doesn't. This last visit especially, our server was dismissive and came off as downright rude. It felt like we were an inconvenience the moment we sat down. The drinks are usually the highlight, but even that's hit or miss. If you order anything fruity--like the mango margarita--expect more smoothie than cocktail. Tasty, sure, but not what I came for. Food-wise, it's average at best. I'm from San Antonio, and honestly, I can get better seafood back home at a lower price. Meals run about $20 a person, which wouldn't be bad if the food and experience felt worth it. Overall, Blackbeards is more of a tradition than a treat. I've been wanting to come to Blackbeards every time on the island but it's usually packed. We came in during a weekday lunch time and it wasn't very busy. We were seated as soon as we got in and our server was very friendly. I got the calamari as an app and then the oysters .... which were super fresh and the crab cakes were perfect!! Wow, this place is popular for good reasons. This place is not on the water or fancy but the food and service are beautiful. The salad, the onion rings, our fish and even the fries were all great. After a beach photo shoot we headed over to Blackbeard's for drinks and a late dinner. Wait was less than thirty minutes on a Friday night in May. Ample parking at that time. We ordered drinks at outside bar that were tart top shelf margs and cold beer. We had a spacious table and Jose as our server. He was awesome! Great recommendations. Very friendly. Checked on us often. Ww started with chips salsa guacamole and queso. All nice and fresh We ordered crab cakes, Atlantic salmon and Buffalo chicken sandwich. We all enjoyed our meals thoroughly. Meals came with sides. We enjoyed the grilled zucchini. Side salad was a little plain but good. The dinner rolls that came with meals was really tasty. Oh and the lemons blueberry cheesecake. Came with the family for a quick Labor Day trip to the Island and am glad we came across Blackbeards. They have some cool fishing memorabilia scattered throughout the inside and truly give you the SPI vibes. We arrived around 6 pm and were seated quickly by the hostess. The staff here is very kind and our waitress gave us a good rundown of the menu. Unfortunately, we couldn't take advantage of any dinner specials, so be sure to come on a weekday if you're interested in trying those out. We ended up getting the Blackbeard's Seafood Platter Supreme with Mahi Mahi and the fried oyster platter. The meals here come loaded with a good amount of food and most entrees do come with your choice of two sides. The Blackbeard's Seafood Platter Supreme tasted excellent. The Mahi Mahi was juicy and well-seasoned. We had the gulf shrimp broiled and they were flavorful as well. For the sides, we chose the dinner salad and steak fries. Unfortunately, the steak fries were bland and doughy. I would recommend avoiding the steak fries and choosing another side. The fried oyster platter came loaded with about 10-12 pieces and the oysters tasted very fresh! It also came with a large fried onion, which is a great bonus. The grilled zucchini as a side had a good smokey flavor, but they only gave us 2 pieces. Overall, Blackbeards is a good value for being on the Island and the seafood here tastes fresh. I highly recommend trying to arrive before 7pm on the weekends because by 7pm, it gets packed! read more

We had a HUGE group. 5 tables, 40 people, and nearly 40 pounds of fish caught this morning. Hector was our server and was amazing keeping up with us. (Hey Boss, Hector needs a raise!) We still cant figure out how the kitchen sent out at least 7 platters of blackened, fried, and grilled fish. It was presented beautifully, and came to our tables hot and perfectly cooked. However, a fair amount of shrimp on the special, probably more than most people can eat.. 16 shrimp, with choice of two sides. This year, I opted for the charbroiled flounder which was excellent. Nicely prepared with an excellent spice blend and had four filets. Of course, shared a fabulous appetizer of Mexican Shrimp Cocktail.. another must have for the family. Came with 6 fried shrimp that was smashed flat..??? I've eaten a lot of shrimp in my time, but it wasn't ever smashed flat. Texas toast wasn't great. We are in Texas, so it should have been on point. It did come with a huge onion ring. It tasted like cheap products with little or no effort. The salt & pepper were an issue! Salt has rice in it which is to absorb moisture. It was so old the rice had turned yellow. Had to take the top off if the pepper to get any, yeah, it was old too. I am looking for a way to describe it because it looked fantastic, but tasted like an assembly line meal with no love at all. Very disappointing for a steak & seafood restaurant. This used to be a family favorite when we came to the island but a few years ago something changed and the went from good to awful. Since it's been a few years, we decided to give them another shot - glad we did. First, understand that it is a beach tourist spot so it's not fine dining - but as long as you know that - all will be well. Our server (Julio) was top notch - attentive, friendly and even appropriately funny. We started with two of the nacho trio which is chips with salsa, quest and guacamole. Our table of 6 adults and 4 kids finished them off. Chips were good; salsa was pretty good; guacamole was good and queso was tasty. Four of us had shrimp Po Boys with fries or coleslaw. The Po Boy had a very generous amount of shrimp. The fries were perfectly crispy but not burned and the coleslaw was very good - a mayo/vinegar blend that was tasty. The Buffalo chicken sandwich also was a very large sandwich and had a good flavor as well. The nachos were huge! They were very tasty and there were quite a few left over. The shrimp and fish platter also had a generous helping of both and were prepared well.
