Called Black Ice today and they arrived within just a couple hours. We were fully prepared to replace the roof unit at a cost of thousands. Instead, the gentleman pointed out that a part had (obviously except to us) failed, and he had another already on his truck. We had done without heat or air for months! We just had our AC unit serviced tonight and I literally felt like I had to get this review in before bed because I am so incredibly pleased with the service! My breaker for my AC kept tripping and I knew something was wrong. I have two toddlers and two dogs so not having AC is not an option. I called a few places, but with it being late July, I was having no luck getting someone out. Black Ice made me an appointment for tomorrow afternoon, but ended up calling me around 7:00 this evening to see if the technician, Kalonji, could come out this evening instead since he was in the neighborhood. I was relieved, to say the least, because my house was already 80 degrees inside and climbing. After checking it out, he found out that we had a bad capacitor, leaking/ low freon and a bad breaker in our sub panel. He took care of all of it for a great, very fair price in about 2 hrs time. This is a family-owned business and you can tell how much they care about their customers and value their business. He did not have to come last minute and stay late to help us! We had Kolanji come out because our A/C just wasn't cutting it. Though we had it tune up 2 years prior, what we discovered upon Kolanjis examination of our unit was a complete surprise. He found things wired improperly, vent ducts blocked, filters where they should not have been blocking air flow and most of all he patiently taught me how to operate my new "smart" Thermostat which took at least half hour ! We are beyond pleased with Black Ice. Kalonji is honest and hardworking. He is always on time and available . Last summer our AC went out on that day it was 113* . K came out and replaced a fuse. He checked out our very old unit and made some adjustments and we were up and running. He never once told us we needed to replace our system. Well, we knew it was time to replace, so this winter we decided and we called Black Ice. Kalonji explains everything so thoroughly. He didn't guess or just replace our old system. After my AC broke down, I called one of the big AC repair companies that is also highly rated on this site. They told me not to bother fixing the issue and tried to upsell me a new AC unit for more than $8,000. That same night I spoke with Kalonji at Black Ice and he was very honest explained the technician should have gone through many more steps before reaching this conclusion. My 92 year old mother's two year old air conditioner quit working a couple of weeks ago on a Thurs., when it was 105 degrees out, so she called the plumbing/air conditioning company that installed it. They came out and said it's probably a leak and it would cost $1500. to search for the leak, but since the leak was probably in the attic where some of the parts weren't replaced two years ago, it would be best to just replace the air conditioner and all the parts in the attic, etc, which would cost 9,000. Since they didn't work on the weekend, she would have to wait until Mon. We called Black Ice and they came right out Fri. morning after we explained the situation. He looked in the attic and worked on the air conditioner and in a short time he had the air conditioner up and running again, filling her home with cool air. The owner/tech was so caring and gave her an extremely fair price, $450. Such a life saver for our elderly mother. It is still running great and keeping her cool. SO thankful.
