Courtyard by Marriott Calgary South - Spacious Bathrooms with Walk-In Showers

Courtyard by Marriott Calgary South

Nice, clean and well appointed rooms!…read more I have stayed in quite a few Courtyard by Marriott in Canada and I really love the newer Courtyard as the design so much younger and nicer. Front desk staff was friendly and checked in was uneventful. Parking can be tight. Busy and the underground parking space is so small and definitely looking for a space at the outdoor parking area if you are driving a car bigger than mid size. There is a plaza across the street that has a sizable grocery store and some fast food joint in case you need to pick up some supplies.

Check in was quick and efficient at the front desk with a quick run down of where the pool and fitness facilities were. My king room on the second floor was clean and spacious. A nice desk area with lighting, a comfortable chair, coffee machine and mini fridge. There was a sectional with lamp and plugs for all your electronics. A lot of time I feel that hotel rooms are a bit on the dark side but there was plenty of lighting around the room. The only quibble I have about the bathroom is that when you're showering water splashes onto the floor. I guess that's what the bath mat is for. Depending on where I am going to spend time in Calgary I may or may not stay here again, just because it is a bit further from downtown.

The staff we dealt with were all very kind and helpful (Front desk, breakfast staff, maintenance man). The Bad: we were not told that housekeeping was only available for stays of 5 night or longer. At 4 PM on our second day, we were surprised that the room hadn't been cleaned yet so we called the front desk and asked if our garbage could be emptied and for new towels. We were given towels and garbage bags and told to empty the garbage ourselves. The next day, our room again wasn't cleaned so we visited the front desk where we were advised of the no-housekeeping policy for stays less than 5 nights. We asked if just our carpet could be vacuumed, as we have a crawling baby and didn't want her crawling on an unclean carpet. The front desk staff member left the desk and returned with a vacuum, which we then had to bring to our 3rd floor room, vacuum, and return to the desk. I have never experienced this before in an otherwise nice hotel. We certainly didn't expect a deep clean, new bedding or anything of that sort, but when paying $180 per night for a 3 night stay basic services like garbage emptying and vacuuming is expected. This policy really undermines the otherwise great service we experienced.

The restaurant is to die for and the staff are really nice. The view is one of the best parts. You aren't too far from Calgary but you seem to be in a completely different world! The most magical place in Alberta!…read more A friend of ours attended a vodka tasting event at Azuridge and we were blown away by the pictures, the estate seemed like it came out of a magazine, not an amazing local place! We had hoped they would accommodate a tiny wedding, and they did not disappoint. Everything from the first email, to the subsequent visits, has been over the top amazing. I had considered waiting to write this until our event was completed, but honestly, you neeed to know about this place. It is so posh and perfect, everyone who works there is on fire to make your experience amazing. Entering the gate into the estate sets the tone for the experience you are about to have. We came to tour the estate, brilliant experience, they have every single tiny detail perfected. Our engagement photos followed by some drinks in the beautiful Opal dining room? The photos are stunning, and we were so touched that a server we had not met yet congratulated us on our upcoming wedding. We are probably not this venue's typical clientele, but we have been treated like royalty since our very first contact. If you are ever so lucky as to have the chance to work with Trevor, jump on that opportunity. He is so amazing at what he does and takes care of all the little details you might not have even considered, which just adds to the magic of this place. If you are looking to be pampered and spoiled, or perhaps a little getaway, you won't find a better place to go in Alberta.

First off, there is NO lake view. (Wink)…read more This hotel is one of three recommended in Okotoks. It feels more family owned/operated than other more expensive chain hotels. Check in was smooth and the staff has been very friendly. (Is that a Canadian thing?) Our rooms (non-suite) are a bit worn, but very clean and with a fridge and microwave, there is convenience built in. The bathroom is large, clean and it was hard for me to pry myself away from the warm shower. The tv has lots of options to watch, but I fell asleep quickly on a firm but very comfy mattress. We like free breakfast, and there is a nice combination of warm and cold options. If there are scrambled eggs and make-your-own waffles, it's a good day. Very close to drugstore and several fast food restaurants. Only downside, sound and light easily bleed through the door. I can hear my neighbors shower like they're in my own room. Otherwise, thumbs up for Lakeview.

Some of the things I was very disappointed in; Cons -the staff did not greet me or seem to care I had arrived with multiple suitcases at the front desk -when I asked a question, their time appeared wasted in replying -when calling the hotel to ask for early check in, it took 3 tries to get a person on the phone -my room was generally clean, but the bathroom counter and kitchenette was not wiped down, nor was the floor swept Pros -acceptable breakfast spread -clean pool are that includes a huge slide for kids -good location but not near a lot of restaurants Overall, I will go out of my way to never stay at this hotel again if I can help it.

Wow! Talk about a face lift…read more The Royal Duke used to be the Willy Pub & Inn... bye bye Willy... Helloooooo Duke! The big reno happened early this year and they've been open since August. First impression is a 10 out of 10. What a beautiful reno. The ownership is brand new as well and quite often you'll see them (Guy & Barry) walking about, serving customers and making sure all is well. My wife went out for dinner last night and seeing that we live in south Calgary, why not head to Okotoks and check out the Royal Duke. The menu is pretty nice - a little bit of everything. We chose the 8oz NY Steak sandwich which did not disappoint. It was a Sunday night so things were quite quiet but I've been in there for lunch as well and it's quite a popular place to be. The service was great - Melissa was our server, very personable and really knowledgable about the different drinks on tap. There's loads of room, a billiards room with two tables, lots of TVs and sports to watch, very bright lighting and a private room with VLTs. Probably what really blows me away about this place is that I can bring my kids who are both under 5 years. Much like the UK where kids can go to the pub with mum & dad, it's the same here. Kids are welcome with parents up to 8:00pm So there you go. Check it out. Great atmosphere, lighting, decor, and very nice food! I'll be back!

All of the staff have been very nice and friendly as well. The prices are about average with bars, without many specials that I've had the opportunity to take advantage of.
