Like, REALLY early, with a 5:30A pickup. Dad swoops in to find a taxi willing to pick up that early. I made several calls to the taxis that showed up in my Google search. One had agreed to the ride but asked me to call back the day before to confirm. I did, but they now said they didn't have someone so I did more searches and made more phone calls for 15 minutes. Most other calls didn't pick up and went to voice mails with full mailboxes. I went to Yelp and found Malik's Black Cab company as the first result. I called, he picked up and was very friendly. When I travel for work, I usually just Uber everywhere. But on a recent trip to Champaign-Urbana, I had to leave on an extremely early morning flight and was worried there wouldn't be an Uber available. My hotel booked Malik from Black Cab, and the experience was perfect. Malik showed up early and quickly whisked me away in a really nice black mid-size car. He was super friendly and caring and even asked if I needed to stop for breakfast since there wasn't anything at the airport. Our ride was easy, pleasant, and efficient. Malik was also happy to take a credit card -- I love that he didn't try to force me to use cash like so many other cab companies. Malik, BCL's owner, just did me a huge favor. Earlier today, I was planning to take the Peroria Charter to O'Hare. Unfortunately, I forgot my passport at home and missed the bus. Malik picked me up immediately, caught up to the bus an hour later. That's not all! He turned on his blinkers to get them to stop on the side of the interstate, and he got them to seat me on the bus. I was briefly in town, on business. Excellent, courteous service. I called the night before to book, for a ride from the Illini Union Hotel to CMI Airport, based on the recommendations seen on yelp. Because of the location I was calling from I had trouble hearing the person scheduling with me. He called me back to make sure we had scheduled correctly, then confirmed by text. UPDATE: Sometimes, the owner may call a different cab company for you, e.g. Jet Cab. These other companies do not offer the same level of service and pricing that Black Cab does, and I am very disappointed when I get a different cab. Minus 1 star for the bait and switch. I called for a pick up at 8pm the night before and he had me text him the pickup address and drop off location and then texted to confirm he'd be there by 6am the next day. He arrived at 5:57 and called me to let me know he was out front waiting. The car was EXTREMELY clean and he was very friendly and personable. Reasonably priced as well. Malik is simply Superman! My wife and I had a trip to Cancun planned, leaving very early NYE morning. Our flight out of CMI was delayed due to weather. The only way to get to Cancun for NYE was to drive to O'Hare, where our connecting flight was still on time. I called BCL and Malik answered and was there in no time at all. He drove us safely and comfortably to O'Hare. The road conditions were terrible and it was as if he knew exactly how to navigate the bad roads and make sure that we arrived on time. This is the first time Yelp let me down. 5-stars? Not even close. I would not recommend Black Cab & Limo for two reasons: 1) the driving did not make me feel safe and 2) the driver did not treat me like paying customer. The driver was late 7 minutes picking me up. He called me to ask what city I was in; information I had already texted the day before. There was another lady in the car. I thought she was his wife or friend. I didn't know she was another rider; we went to campus to drop her off. We were on our way to the airport when he received a call, so we picked up a new girl very nearby. We dropped her off at another part of campus. By the time we actually started heading to the airport, 20 minutes had passed. We arrived 30 minutes before my flight left. I didn't complain during the ride because I had already checked-in online and wasn't checking any bags. I thought maybe he would reduce the fare for the unusual circumstances. The fare was the same: $18! (overpriced!) I asked him if this ride was normal. Did he usually give other rides before taking a passenger to the airport? How could I rely on him to get me to the airport on time in the future? He assured me that he got people to the airport on time. He KNEW the roads would be empty, etc. I said that this time, it was okay; I wasn't planning on checking my bag, but what if I wanted to check it? It was too late now. His response was that he KNEW I wasn't going to because it was a small carry-on! Carry-ons can be checked too if I want, and I often do! Basically, HE DECIDED when I would arrive at the airport. I planned on arriving 50 minutes, not 30 minutes, before my flight. HE DECIDED I would have enough time. And HE DECIDED that I wasn't going to check any bags. This all would have been okay if he had only asked me. It was as if he was doing me a favor, not that I was paying him for a service! His driving was way too fast, with sudden braking, all in the fresh snow. He must be a good driver, but it didn't feel safe. It was like being in a third world country. Would it have been a different experience if I were a loud person, or if I complained, or if I were a man, or white? read more

The night prior, I called and scheduled a ride to the airport for 5:00 a.m. The morning of the scheduled ride, no one showed up and there was no answer when I called to inquire. I was forced to seek out an alternate way to the airport, making me late. Based upon the conversation I had with the dispatch when I scheduled my ride, there had been no doubt in my mind that a cab was going to be there. Malik was the kindest cab driver I have ever experienced. He carried our bags INTO the airport for us and made sure that we made our rescheduled flight . Turns out our flight was canceled. He made sure that we returned home safely and he was back the next morning at 5 a.m. for a return trip. I am disabled and he checked out the sidewalk to make sure there was no ice that I would slip on and once again carried our bags INTO the airport. I have yet to meet a better guy than Malik. Last year was my freshman year of college and one night I woke up in the worst pain of my life and knew I needed to get to a hospital. RA's aren't allowed to take residents to the hospital (ridiculous rule), and no way I could afford an ambulance. I googled Urbana cab services and BCL was actually the last one listed, but the only to answer. When he asked where I was going and I said the nearest hospital he said he'd be there immediately. I'm not exaggerating when I say he was there in five minutes tops. Not only did he get me to Carle in no time at all, but he refused to let me pay, and he came into the emergency room with me, because my parents were hours away. If that weren't enough the next day he texted to make sure I was OK and stopped by my dorm. Malik is such an incredible guy and deserves all the business he can get. Called the night before for early morning pickup. Turned out black cab wasn't able to pick me up on time so they arranged with classic cab to pick me up. The gentleman was woken up at 5am and was at my house in 10 mins..right on time. At my stop, the black cab owner personally came to take my payment.
