The garlic naan was good, and the masala was excellent--definitely the highlight of the meal. The samosas were okay, though not particularly memorable. The entrées were also beautifully presented in attractive copper serving dishes. Unfortunately, the service became less enjoyable as the meal went on. We were repeatedly encouraged to order additional drinks and dessert, and the upselling began to feel uncomfortable rather than attentive. The music was also quite loud and included frequent profanity, which did not feel family-friendly. We were asked to remove our used forks from our appetizer plates and keep them for our main course, when fresh silverware would have been more appropriate. At the end of the meal, we waited an excessive amount of time for our check even though it was clear we were finished, and eventually had to go to the front ourselves to get it. There is definitely potential here, especially with some very good food, but with so many other dining options available, this is not somewhere we would go out of our way to visit again.

So sadly we got there too late to order any dessert when we finished our meal. I do appreciate that neither of us felt rushed to order our meal or enjoy what we had for supper. That was really kind considering the holiday just started. Atmosphere was decent but next time, I would ask to sit away from the window & further into the restaurant (open sign flashing right at head level can trigger migraine issues for me on the wrong day). As I usually comment about accessibility, I should note that my knees surprisingly allowed me to do more stairs than I would normally consider to contend with for any enjoyment of food with a friend. Even then, I found them hard to go back down & definitely glad I wasn't carrying leftovers. So keep in mind this is not an accessible place. As even to reach the desk for food pick-ups would require a person to do stairs. There's plenty of angled street parking available & location to hotels off boardwalk provides opportunity to order takeout.

Six years later my wife and I decided to try again. Me: I was here years ago and I found the dish I ate too sweet. Is it possible to get my food without sugar? Sweet Waitress What was the dish? Me: I think it was Butter Chicken Sweet: There's no sugar in our Butter Chicken. It's made with tomato paste, ketchup... Me: (after she had finished listing ingredients.) Ketchup is almost pure sugar. I've been eating Indian cuisine for the large part of two centuries and in many cities on two continents. I cook northern and southern Indian dishes. I've taken classes, have several cookbooks and subscribe to the better you tube channels (I recommend Swasthi's.) Ketchup is not an ingredient in Indian food. I asked if there was ketchup in several other dishes and was basically told that the Korma was my best and only choice. There was ketchup even in the tandoori chicken. (There is an exception. There is a little chopped onion salad that is often made with either tomato chutney or ketchup.) Korma is a light sauce usually made with yoghurt and maybe a little cream. This was thickened with flour. So much flour that it reminded me of the time I tasted the paste in nursery school. The best word to describe it is "glop." To the many people who wrote rave reviews I beg you to take the ferry to the city and go to one of the many fabulous Indian restaurants there. Swad in West Vancouver is closest and the best. Vij's is amazing but very pricey. Sula and East is East are both terrific and you will pay the same as Saffron, maybe a tad less. My wife had the dahl. A lentil dish. It had a very strong flavour of...you guessed it---ketchup. We asked and, yes, it was, in fact, ketchup. The service was lovely. The naan bread was very good. Neither of them contained ketchup. HOW EVER I have a few reasons to think otherwise. First, already had to wait like an hour and a half for my food. Even though all the tables were empty. (About the food) The curry that I was recommended was cold, with raw chunks of chicken and something brown in it, my butter chicken we SPECIFICALLY order with mild spice was burning hot to the point where i chocked on the food and threw up in my mouth. I found pistachio in my brother's curry, when we specifically asked for it without due to the fact that he is deadly allergic to it, (thankfully we were carrying an epi pen). Second of all there was this little annoying little tub butter who appeared to be around the age of 13 wearing a spiderman mask. He was borderline harassing me, my brothers, and wife(especially my wife). He then threatened to tell the owner on me saying it was his father. The nan bread was amazing however it was absolutely delicious. And the mango ice cream was a bit too creamy I really feel my experience was similar to landon and Dutch. Will not be coming back. UNTIL THESE PROBLEMS ARE FIXED. Please do better I right this review from the bottom of my heart and all that I say is to improve your restaurant. (Ps. this is what curry should look like ).

We got there with 30 minutes left in the Sunday buffet, but that was not our goal. The place was fairly full, but you could tell they were there for the buffet. I checked out the food in the warmers and it looked pretty good. We were sat quickly, our waters dropped promptly in cool copper and stainless glasses. The menu is fairly extensive but we had already decided on the meat dinner special for two as it provided a good variety of their offerings. We ordered some wine, and the food came out very quickly. It looked great, with the exception of the aforementioned chicken leg, which tasted great but was obviously cooked to death. The balance of the meal was really great and plentiful. The Chicken curry and Lamb curry were good and I am not a lamb guy. It was a solid hit, and a good way to experience the cuisine. The decor could use some work, it's fairly spartan, and the white rectangle painted on the wall for the projector doesn't help. You clearly don't go for the ambiance, but it's a solid 4+. We'd certainly go again.
