If you need something done by a deadline, don't expect it done by then. Make sure to tell them a week before you no joke need it. You will never pick up on time and even when you're told to come back, you'll get the message, "It'll just be another 30 minutes". Then you come back an hour later and it's still not ready. Be sure you have time to wait. If you need something fast, look elsewhere. Attention to detail is another area of concern. I won't go into specifics, but I'll give you this. We had a $400 retirement whiskey bottle engraved and the service member's name was MISSPELLED! When they verified the paper was left with the correct spelling, they just said sorry. You will leave detailed instructions and it'll not be done that way. Don't expect a discount either when your product is wrong. Overall, very disappointed and will not come back. It was a simple thing: Engrave the words "The CHIEF MUSICIAN" on a shiny brass guitar truss rod cover measuring 1" x 2.25". The $10 "set up" fee and 16 letters in Century font, with sales tax, came to more than $19, but I was willing to pay that for good, local service and a nice look on the $15 cover plate I'd ordered from a supplier in England (and waited 6 weeks to get). When I dropped it off, I left BJD Engraving satisfied that even though it seemed a little pricey, the person at the counter understood what I wanted. Mm-hmm. When I picked it up, I couldn't believe what had been done to my cover plate! Instead of orienting it horizontally (which I asked for), so the engraving could actually be read in a way that makes sense, whoever did the work oriented it vertically, and simply reduced the font so that the words were broken up to fit side-to-side. Seriously! The letters are 1/8" tall, and I can barely make them out without my reading glasses. It would be like bringing BJD a 1" x 2.25" brass name plate for, say, a security uniform and needing a 3-piece name totaling 16 letters engraved on it -- and having the engraver turn the plate vertically and break up the long name, and engrave it in a tiny font so that it would fit the 1" space. Not only that, but when I see it through my magnifying glass some of the letters are gouged deeper than others, and none of the words are completely centered. In short, it looks like the kind of engraving job you see on one of those cheap aluminum rings kids sometimes get for fifty cents in those novelty junk machines at grocery stores and restaurants. Do yourself a favor and get your engraving done by an online service! It'll take longer, yeah; but it'll come closer to being what you thought you were paying for! (EDIT: By the way, I'm not in San Francisco. I live in Wichita Falls, but there's apparently some kind of glitch because no one here can get Yelp to change my location.) read more

I thought this place was great 3 years ago and would have given them 5 stars back then. However, recently I have had some issues. First, I ordered one of their large engraved mugs and they gave me a medium sized mug and told me that's the biggest one they have. The large mug was still on display and I paid the price listed for the large mug. I let that go. I brought in a small plaque as an example to use for quarterly plaques that we put on the wall in my unit and they used a different template so it's doesn't match. Oh well. I ordered 21 engravings that they finished 2 weeks late. Aughh!! Lastly, I ordered another plaque for the wall for this quarter and they called me the day after they said it would be done (which was a week after I ordered it) because they wanted to make sure they got it right. Once I brought in the example again they had it made within 5 minutes. Ok, I'm glad they got in touch with me to make sure it was right. But seriously!?! You had me wait a week for something you could have had done in 5 minutes!! Thinking back, all the items I have ever ordered through them were small and simple and all of them took about a week!! I was also looking around today and realized the place is a mess!! The lobby is run down. The carpets are worn. The wall displays are falling apart. I looked back behind the counter and there was trash on the floor. Not like a little bit of trash, it was like someone threw a box of random papers and plastic junk across the room!! Overall their products a great where they are correct, but I have to knock off a star for the hassles I've had and a star for the mess. read more
