We try to do a food tour in whichever city we are visiting, so we looked forward to our experience in SD. Our guide, Eric, was friendly, engaging, and informative. Nice guy, made the tour interesting. I was not impressed by the food, however. Royal India (IMO) was the best. The pizza was so-so. Mexican place was a piece of corn. Did not care for the macaroon, way too sweet, and the final place in Little Italy was not good at all. Most of the tour was in the Gaslamp district, but for the final stop we wound our way through several streets for 25 minutes to Little Italy where we had a dessert that was forgettable and regrettable. Then the tour ended. We were supposed to make our way back to the Gaslamp area. Good thing we had GPS! The best thing was that we saw a beer place (Karl Strauss) en route so we went there after the tour for some beers before trying to find our way back. The tour is comparatively cheaper than in other cities, but you know that you get what you pay for. read more

Years ago, one of my favorite songs was entitled, A God of a Second Chance. With that in mind, I gave the tour a second chance and it was much better. This tour was in North Park; Mark was the tour guide. I enjoyed the food much better on this tour. Mark greeted my party upon arrival. Explained how Splash was set up to purchase drinks. I enjoyed the concept of sampling multiple wines for one basic fee! However, and I think this is my main issue with this company, the advertisement says to join us for a bite and a sip. Therefore, I am under the impression, I'm getting drinking with the tour. I got free drinks alright; water! Lol! We were told that we were making eight stops. We only did six. We went to two place that specialized in a specific food and beverage, but was served some random out of the sky thing. Don't get me wrong, what I was served was really good ( pork belly slider at Red Wings and Aztec soup at the coffee shop), but I was expecting wings and coffee...maybe it's just me??? I think these tours could be much better if the company developed a tighter agreement with the restaurant regarding the menu selection. OH YA KNOW, DID THIS TOUR JUST ABOUT 4 TIMES....just part of my monthly routine. No, really. 4 times already and I've loved it every time. And I'm talking about just the Downtown/Little Italy Tour with Eddie. It started out when I moved here and had a horrible food tour experience with a different company. I was determined to find a food tour I liked so decided to try them out. Let me just say that this company takes feedback seriously. There is a huge difference from the first tour I went to and the very last tour. The first one had a few stops that were just a waste of time because the food offering was either not very tasty or too little. They kept the same stops but changed up the food received on the tour and this was probably the best decision that Bite San Diego has made. Had it not been for that change, I probably wouldn't have given them 5 stars. Granted, I know sometimes the food selection is not in their control, but so glad the change took place. We start out at Royal India which has always had very friendly service..even for folks on a food tour. The indian food here is fresh and buffet style so you can choose what you like and how much of it. Eddie begins with an introduction and he's super personable. He loves his job and gives you plenty of time to relax, eat and enjoy company. I won't waste your time with each stop detail, but feel free to message me if you need advice on anything and I can give you a little insight on what each stop provides. The LAST stop (or second to last depending on if they switch it that day), however, is my absolute favorite!!! The tour is in beautiful downtown San Diego in Gaslamp and you can easily enjoy the rest of the day in Seaport Village or the beautiful harbor. The length of the tour is perfect. I wouldn't say that you'll be full after the tour and may want to grab some dinner after about an hour. BUT, for the price you're paying...it's hands-down worth it. Especially if you get a groupon or amazon deal. Also, make sure you book ahead because their spots fill up pretty fast for this specific tour. Eddie is irreplaceable for this Downtown/Little Italy tour. The way he presents knowledge of San Diego is engaging and entertaining. I can't speak for the other tours since I can't seem to let this one go because of how much I loved it. Every time someone visits me from my hometown of Chicago, this is the first tour I book. Mimi was our tour guide and she did a fantastic job of guiding us around starting at the Potato Shack, up to the Meditation Gardens, around the Lumberyard shopping center where we sampled chocolates, gelato and spices and quiche brownies and lemon bars, then over to see the "boat houses" then on to the Sports Bar for pizza and chicken wings! First time going on a food tour and boy was I surprised! There was a lot more eating than expected. I wasn't expecting appetizer amounts at each place, just a bite. But it sure was delicious! We stopped at 5 places total and for being someone who is very picky about her food I was certainly not expecting to like most things. However I did! It was great! Addy our tour guide was amazing. Although she had just moved to the area a few months ago she was so knowledgable! I would definitely go on another. Maybe I will even hit them all up with friends and family when they come to visit. Highly recommended for the all the fun-loving foodies out there! I found out about this tour on Groupon and decided to do it as a date night (or rather day) for my boyfriend and I. We chose the Downtown San Diego (Gaslamp Quarter & Little Italy) food tour and we and 14 other people absolutely loved it! Our guide was supposed to be Eddie but Noel was great! He seemed very knowledgeable about the history of the Gaslamp Quarter and Little Italy and he kept the group engaged. Amazing food from mouthwatering Indian curry, delicious deep dish pesto and tomato pizza, tasty southern homemade style fries, yummy ceviche, scrumptious nutella pizza dessert, and delectable focaccia di recco among others. The only downside is that parking is pretty expensive and depending on what time you go, hard to find. At the end of the tour, it is about a 25 minute walk back to the start. If you don't like the extra exercise you can do what my boyfriend and I did and park near the end of the tour (about a block from Napizza) and just do the 2 mile trek in the beginning. However, if you like walking, there is going to be a lot of that! read more

John is very passionate about history and it comes through when he talks about North Park. However, I completely agree with Jodi B. Based on the locations listed on the description, our expectations were completely different than what we tried. My boyfriend, our best friends and I just did the downtown/Little Italy tour! Our tour guide Hank was great! He was super friendly, very knowledge and kept our tour light, and funny! We stopped at Royal India which was actually very good (and I normally do not eat Indian food). The wait staff was extremely friendly and the bartender was generous! Next stop was Berkeley Pizza. They had a very good take on the Chicago style pizza but you can still pick it up! The pesto was my fav! Next was The Deck. The vibe of this place was fantastic. Lots of games and two large bars. The potato salad was amazing, so was the BBQ sauce. The Riblets were pretty good, just slightly tough. But I will definitely be going here again over and over. Le Parfait Paris was the next stop. The owner of this shop was FANTASTIC! He matched his wife's equally fantastic triple layered chocolate masterpiece! I can't even explain how amazing it was! I want to go back and get a box of goodies! We then finished off at the Renaissance rooftop bar. The view was nice in a relaxing canopy. We had some flat breads and a yummy spritzer. I just went on the La Jolla Bite San Diego tour with two others from a local meet up group. Dave, our guide, was very knowledgeable. Didn't hurt he's a architect student so very informative. I've gone on food tours when I'm on vacation, and thought some of my foodie friends would enjoy. Discovered places I've never been to and I've lived here over 15 years. Even though one stop, the Cupcake shop had closed, we all seemed to enjoy the variety from the Hawaiian snacks, cheesecake, crepes, mini scones, and olive oil and wine. Most of us purchased drinks along the way and a couple bought olive oils and balsamic. Liked the Krispy crepes the best. Would recommend, especially if you have a discount ticket. Be sure and wear good walking shoes as it's quite a long walk to return to the starting point. read more

I had a groupon and decided to use it when my friend was in town. We wanted the North park tour but it was booked, as this one books up very fast. We did the dowtown/little italy tour and were not disappointed. Our group was very small. There was a lot to eat. We were very stuffed. The food was great at each place, but there was a lot of bread all in all. My suggestion would be, either cut out little Italy or add another stop there. It is a far walk between the two areas. (approx 30 min ) Wear comfortable shoes. There are plenty of places in both areas that they could have been two seperate tours.
