STAY AWAY from this overpriced tourist trap. The owners/managers/servers are rude. They'd like taunting all the people waiting. We figured it was good because it was crowded but there's actually not a lot of options on that side of the marina. One of the men lunged at me with an arm full of plates to intimidate me from waiting in the front. They don't honor any line system, no waiting list and people just walk up and cut the "line". I.e. a table for four came up and they went through the crowd looking for a party of four rather than take the people at the front of the line. Total waste of time for an 18 euro whole fish that was about 7 inches long and once I took the bones out, it had maybe 3 ounces of meat AND it came out cold. AND they played favorites with locals, and the crowd was strange. They let people smoke near the front and the covered tent filled with smoke. We sat toward the back and I suffered in the stinky trapped air. Just an all-around lousy experience with awful service and terrible food. This place is garbage. read more

Aie aie aie the best spot of St Martin. Not only for food but for the whole ambiance going along with it. Food is nicely served, touch pricey, but fresh, served with a smile, at one of the best view in town. Note : for 6 euros you have half a saucisson. Good selection of specials along with a solid regular menu. At night go for the cote de boeuf without an hesitation. 49 euros. Large and comes with fries. A blast. The place at night, especially on summer Fridays turns into a dancing bar spot full of locals and some tourists flying around. Lovey evening to spend there while touring the island. Note this is the only option for late night drinking besides the bastion in town. Again, must go. Must try, try the cote de boeuf. A must. After drinks and food, go toward the bastion to dance till late. read more

I went here this evening. End of season, but still very busy. This is one of the 'bonnes addresses' of St Martin de Ré. Limited menu, mainly meat, but presented as quality with kitchen in full view. I had an 'entrecôte' which was a long time coming and a very small morsel of fatty beef with a lump of fat on the side to (presumably but doubtfully) make up the advertised weight of 300g. I know an entrecôte needs work but this was really not up to scratch. When the waitress asked me how the meal was, I told her, and she cheerfully agreed while completely ignoring the complaint. Frites excellent, pain perdu ok. Wine OK. This is a restaurant which is full every night and they can serve a lot of disappointing dinners like mine before seeing the effect. read more

Easily the best Bar/eatery on the island. Unlike most places on Ile de Re, 'Marin' is primarily a bar which does food rather than a restaurant. It is closest to an informal Gastropub that you get in these parts. The food comes in two categories; the essentials which are always available and are great informal picky bar food, such as cold meats and cheeses, and the day menus which are hot and change. The food quality is always good, and sometimes very good. The beer is fairly standard and the range of wine is extensive, but a touch on the expensive side. So why the 5 stars? Because the atmosphere is lively and welcoming and the staff are fantastic. They are friendly, efficient, convivial and just good fun. Locals and visitors rub along shoulder to shoulder as the place gets packed with well judged music and the hum of animated conversation. read more
