If a man named Ralph (manager) is working the night, just be prepared to beg for your drinks to come within 10 minutes. Place appears to be an Irish bar from the outside but it is really a large bucket with a musician to cover up the reality that you are in fact, not at an Irish bar. I will never return.

I don't often visit the same restaurants or bars, after a while it just gets boring! However, there…read moreare a few spots that I return to every so often - the Murphy's being one of them! The food is not as Irish as you would usually expect it to be, but it's still delicious and they offer weekly specials from all around the world (in addition to their normal pub grub). You can drink a variety of beers, but the cider is what get'a me every time! I'm not a big drinker but even I know that the variety of whisk(e)y they offer is far more than what your normal pub next door has. All in all a great place to spend your nights and have a chat with a random stranger. The staff is also very willing to strike up a conversation, so you won't be all on your own (if you didn't bring friends in the first place that is) I'll be sure to come back soon!

My first experience at this bar was lackluster at best. My wife and I did our own little pub crawl…read morewhen we first got to Bayreuth to see what the different bars were like and we visited this one. The decor was cool, but the atmosphere wasn't lively at all. There was an exceedingly drunk man at the bar who kept insisting that my wife was pregnant (she was not). "Okay, so the bar attracts insulting drunks. Not the bar's fault," I told myself at the time. Contrast that with the experience of a Cameroonian friend of mine. He and four other African friends visited the bar three times: on the first visit they were turned away "because of a private event", on the second because "there was a birthday party". Thinking it was just bad timing, they returned a third time to be told, flat-out, that they "don't serve black people". Shocked and dismayed, my friend left. Racial profiling and refusing service on xenophobic grounds has no place in modern society, and I encourage anyone who feels the same to avoid this bar. There are plenty of other, more inclusive places in Bayreuth that deserve your patronage.

The portion sizes were smaller than expected for the price, but filling for the most part. All of us had fish and chips because they were out of most items (pastas, salads, steak...) on their menu and stated they were working under a "limited menu." I tried Irish whiskey for the first time and it was delicious. I asked for a regular soda as a refill, instead of another cocktail. The sever accidentally brought me another cocktail. She apologized, but did not take the drink and still charged me. Overall I rate them a 3.5. Will return if they offer the full menu again.
