So we hopped (more like creaked) onto a tram at the wonderfully named out of town Knokke Zeebrugge Kerk.
Our initial destination was intended as Ostend. I was last there in 1968, long before plane travel was commonplace. Here I discovered beer over 12% and had my first real espresso. I haven't had powdered coffee ever since.
These electrified trams here are similar to them that traverse Dublin centre: it's the Luas line there.
But on learning that the tram journey was well over 60 stops to Ostend on a 30 mile route we re configured our plans instead disembarking in the beautiful, picturesque, seaside town De Haan Aan Zee.
This was a mere 20 minutes from our first stop requiring about 12 stops. The tram stops in some of the town centres as it meanders along.
The tram stopped right in the town centre. Once we walked around the town, taking in the stunning architecture and glorious sandy beach it was time for coffee. We had spotted this place when we arrived.
We sat at an outside table with unimpressive 2 star cappuccinos, sadly made by conveniently pushing a button similar to those machines found at hotel breakfasts. So not great.
The coffee was topped with a delicious splurge of cream, a little shortbread type biscuit and white sugar cubes on the side.
The service was polite and the toilet facilities were fine too. Pity about the coffee. read more
