Specialties
We are a non-profit making traditional glazier specialising in the manufacture maintenance and repair of lead lights and stained glass windows. We offer a very personal bespoke service and can design and build windows to suit any historical period or artistic style. Our aim is to try and preserve as long as possible the beautiful period windows in our area and slow the blight of unsuitable upvc replacements. We also design and build glass art; in particular sun catchers. These make very popular gifts and can be of any subject, including portraits, animals, national icons, military and heraldic. We use the very best handmade glasses and traditional kiln fired paints, enamels and stains to achieve stunning results.
All our work is designed and handmade in our studio, you only pay the cost of materials and if happy with our product we ask you to make a suitable donation to one of our supported charities.
History
Established in 2011.
We initially learnt glazing skills to repair windows in our very old cottage and to replace those fitted during a misguided 1970's makeover. Friends on seeing the work we were doing asked for similar in their homes and word quickly spread. We decided to formalise the work we were doing and make it easier for people to find us, and that's how Bishopstrow Glass was born. We are very passionate about our architectural heritage and preserving it for future generations. Take a look down any row of pretty old cottages and you will see the damage the double glazing industry has wrought. Thick clunky frames, inappropriate styles, flat lifeless glass and worst of all stuck on strips of lead or chunky flat glazing bars wedged between the panes. We hope by being affordable, helpful and knowledgeable that we can do our bit to help preserve our beautiful heritage.
