My hockey club, Merton Hockey Club play some of our field hockey matches here in the winter.
The school has a sand based astroturf in good nick compared to our other home pitch at The Hub just down the road. As the pitch is locked up outside of school hours, the hockey goals are also in good shape - on some pitches, they tend to get ruined by footballers using them as target practice.
The only downside is the lack of floodlights to enable us to use the pitch for longer hours, especially in the depth of winter. However, the school's position in a residential area prevents any floodlights being erected.
As the weather slowly turned autumnal, hockey players start thinking about trying to get fit for the forthcoming season ahead. Our friendly matches will start in September and I'll need to start trying soon to shed a few of my summer 'Yelpy pounds'! read more
