When it turned out I needed surgery, he told me what to expect. He also mentioned that if I chose to have a 2nd opinion, the answers I could expect to get from other doctors. After my surgery, he monitored me and had me come in on a timely basis to check on my progress. After recovering from my surgery, I will say that I can do a whole lot more and in a lot less pain. On this note when he does give you an injection, it is not as painful as when other doctors do it. I thought before he gave me the epidurals they would be quite painful. Thankfully they were not and I have had other doctors give me an epidural. They were more painful. He also is more thorough. One other thing I need to add here; a while back I had a follow-up appointment for 1:30. Sonia his assistant called me around 12 that day to say that he was running behind. If we moved the appointment to 2, he would be able to see me without a delay. Like I said, I would rate him more than 5 stars if I could. I highly recommend Dr Billinghurst for your back issues. I'll start…read moreby saying that I have had 12 orthopedic surgeries by 7 different orthopedic surgeons, including multiple surgeries on my other knee, and I have worked at academic medical centers for 22 years, so I have a pretty good idea what distinguishes a good surgeon from one that is not so good. In this type of surgery, pain results from the surgical procedure itself, since there is nothing other than debridement, so pain is inversely proportional to skill. I was walking without assistance (cane or crutches) that evening, and other than 2 doses of ibruprofen, I took nothing for pain. Even though I went back to work in 2 days, almost no one noticed anything abnormal. I was walking with a nearly normal gait by 4 days. So I would have to conclude that he did a pretty outstanding job. In addition, he has a great personality, and on top of that, his office staff are terrific. 100% recommendation from me!
