Dr. Billinghurst reviewed scans, reports and x-rays recommending surgery. We felt totally confident in Dr. Billinghurst & weren't disappointed. Besides from having a wonderful bedside manner, he's a skilled surgeon. My husband developed a staph infection & he worked with the team of infectious disease experts & aggressively opened& flushed the wound. It's been 6 months he's be in the care of Dr. Billinghurst & he has his life back!

For starters, Dr Billinghurst has a very good bedside manner. He tells you what needs to be done in a way that even if you are not well versed in the medical field you can understand it and not feel as if he is talking down to you. When I have needed injections he told me where the pain would be and how much pain. He also mentions if you will feel pressure as opposed to pain. When it turned out I needed surgery, he told me what to expect. He also mentioned that if I chose to have a 2nd opinion, the answers I could expect to get from other doctors. After my surgery, he monitored me and had me come in on a timely basis to check on my progress. After recovering from my surgery, I will say that I can do a whole lot more and in a lot less pain. On this note when he does give you an injection, it is not as painful as when other doctors do it. I thought before he gave me the epidurals they would be quite painful. Thankfully they were not and I have had other doctors give me an epidural. They were more painful. He also is more thorough. One other thing I need to add here; a while back I had a follow-up appointment for 1:30. Sonia his assistant called me around 12 that day to say that he was running behind. If we moved the appointment to 2, he would be able to see me without a delay. Like I said, I would rate him more than 5 stars if I could. I highly recommend Dr Billinghurst for your back issues. You will be glad you saw him for it.

He operated on it and once again successfully resolved the issue. The nurses in the prep room who prepared me for surgery as well as after my surgery (I wish I remembered their names) were outstanding. So you wonder why I only gave 4 stars. Well my surgery was originally scheduled for Mar 3. I was told that I would receive a call the day before as to what time to be there. When I heard nothing the day before, I called regarding this. I left a message and got a call from Krystalie saying that I called on Feb 19 saying my hand was better and cancelled the surgery. I would like to see the phone records and documentation from HSS showing that I called on that or any day to cancel. I NEVER cancelled the scheduled surgery for Mar 3. Further I went for my pre-op on Feb 19. If I was going to cancel or did, why would I have kept and gone to the appointment for Feb 19? Krystalie was adament that I did but I felt it was better to not burn my bridge here. The schedule was rescheduled for Mar 10. I made sure to document all and verify with Krystalie for the Mar 10 surgery which was done on that day using the patient portal. Now for the record, I did speak with Krystalie on February 4, regarding if there was a timing issue between my scheduled Feb 19 pre-op and the surgery originally scheduled for Mar 3. Krystalie said that there was no issue here.

After nine shoulder surgeries, I can say with confidence that Dr. Colasanti stands out for both his…read moreclinical expertise and his level of care. From the first visit, he approached my case with a high level of thoroughness and attention. He personally reviewed my MRIs and X rays in detail with me, pointed out specific areas of joint damage, explained why my symptoms aligned with the imaging findings, and walked me through the reasoning behind each treatment option. He welcomed questions, never minimized my pain, and communicated in a way that was both medically precise and easy to understand. I left feeling informed, respected, and like an active part of the decision making process. I am in my late twenties, which made my case more complex. For seven years, surgeons across the country were hesitant to perform a shoulder replacement because of my age. During that time, my shoulder became severely arthritic, and my functional ability was extremely limited, significantly affecting my daily life and independence. Dr. Colasanti carefully weighed the long term risks and benefits of replacement in a younger patient and made his decision based on the true severity of my joint damage and loss of function, not just my age. He also consulted with Dr. Simovitch prior to surgery, and together they agreed replacement was appropriate given how advanced my condition was. That level of thoughtfulness and collaboration meant a great deal to me. In addition to his surgical expertise, Dr. Colasanti's approach to patient care is exceptional. He personally called me the day before surgery to ensure my questions were answered. Throughout the process, he was attentive, respectful, and genuinely engaged in what I was experiencing. It is clear he considers the person behind the condition, not just the diagnosis. I am incredibly grateful to Dr. Colasanti and also to Dr. Simovitch, whose two prior surgeries helped restore function and made it possible for me to ultimately move forward with shoulder replacement. I highly recommend HSS and these surgeons for orthopedic care. Because of them, I have been given a second chance at quality of life.

In this type of surgery, pain results from the surgical procedure itself, since there is nothing other than debridement, so pain is inversely proportional to skill. I was walking without assistance (cane or crutches) that evening, and other than 2 doses of ibruprofen, I took nothing for pain. Even though I went back to work in 2 days, almost no one noticed anything abnormal. I was walking with a nearly normal gait by 4 days. So I would have to conclude that he did a pretty outstanding job. In addition, he has a great personality, and on top of that, his office staff are terrific. 100% recommendation from me!
