We decided to check out El Celler del Tossal based on reviews here and on Trip Advisor, and…read morethankfully we had quite a nice dining experience. We came for lunch on a Tuesday, and unlike many other restaurants we dined at during our trip to Europe, this one had it's doors closed and we had to ring to be let in. Once in, I was slightly surprised at how elegant the place was. We were looking for a more casual lunch and was worried it may cost more than we had hoped to spend. Thankfully the entire lunch cost us only 41 euros, and that included two 4-course meals and a class of wine for myself and my partner. I was so glad we decided on this restaurant because the meal was fantastic. Each dish was better than the last. Lunch menu is decided, so 17.50 euros gets you an appetizer, entree, main course, and a dessert. For our appetizer we had the croquettes. It was a small portion, one croquette each, but it was so good. The filling melted inside your mouth, and the presentation was beautiful. Next, we had the ceviche. Again, it was incredible. Better than the croquettes, if that was possible. After that we had the steak, it also was delicious! The portion was perfect as well, leaving enough room for dessert. We chose the cheesecake, and their preparation was not like a regular cheesecake - instead it was almost a pudding with crust at the bottom. It was so tasty that I wish I was eating it again. The staff was very friendly to us Americans and we would definitely dine here again when we return - it was hands down the best meal of the entire trip.

From the moment we sat down until the end of our meal, dining at La Comisaria was a memorable experience. The head chef quickly introduced himself and was really engaging throughout our entire dinner. (Needless to say, the service was impeccable.) We really enjoyed talking to him, hearing about his restaurant life and most importantly, his food. We had no trouble ordering because he was eager to share his recommended dishes with us. We ordered the langostino, the anchovies, the jamon, eggs and potatoes dish (it's like American breakfast!), as well as a beef dish. Every dish was a hit at our table! My favorite of the night was the anchovies with the salsa. The entire meal was truly incredible, even down to the Heineken on tap and the house wine. Come to think of it, it was my favorite meal in all of Spain. As with many places in Valencia, it's easy to miss since it's in an "alley" but don't give up. Definitely worth stopping by for a meal!

We met the chef and he is a Scotsman with international training, and it really shows. The flavors and freshness of the seafood was outstanding. The house-made Agua de Valencia was superb.
