This is overdue, but necessary. We had JJ from Cocomelon surprise my daughter for her birthday and it WAS A HIT. JJ put his heart and soul into his appearance. The crowd ranged in age quite a bit (babies through seniors, you name it), but JJ read the room - he played songs, made balloon animals, organized a few dances, made the birthday girl feel special, and basically knew just what to do to make this outdoor birthday party extraordinary for our girl. Never again! Very disappointed with Elmo character. I booked them in advance. Elmo came in an incomplete & torn costume. You could see her bare hands(no gloves), bare neck & torn mouth. Not a very social person. Most of the kids ended up not enjoying it & moved to the Jumper we had rented from some other place. What this company did will shock and disappoint you. We have used this company before, 2 years in a row and this was to be our third. We always order the same waterslide and a character to come to the house, always around the same date because it's my son's birthday. This was his 4th birthday party and we ordered the Big Kahuna slide and Spongebob character. They were supposed to arrive between 9:30 and 10:30am and at 10:20 we started to panic and called, and called and called, and no one answered. After 30 almost a half an hour Carlos called back and said that he didn't have an order for us but upon looking further said the dreaded words, "oh, I see it now, yeah for today but we don't have any slides or Spongebobs to send." My wife was in tears and our son innocently awaited his big surprise for the day, but they didn't show. Carlos offered to help "put out a 911" and get us a Spongebob, and of course he'd cover the cost and refund our money. As he said, "If I can find someone to come out it will be free of charge." I had friends and family working the phones and thankfully another company had a slide and could get it to us within the hour but it was over $100 more than I already paid birthdaypartycharacters.com Did I mention that they had almost $200 of my money? So now I had to spend MORE! We got a spongebob too, from another company, and she was fantastic, but again, we had to spend more money because as it turned out, Carlos went MIA when it came to putting down a deposit or covering the $190 cost. We emailed the company later, asking for an obvious refund and for them to cover the cost of the extra money we spent, the amount over what their service would have cost. They responded with a cold, corporate email that did NOT honor what Carlos had said about paying for Spongebob but then what they did next was ridiculous, insulting, hurtful and nasty. They implied that this was somehow OUR fault, that they had it in their system that the party was next week and they they always call to confirm. As if we changed our son's birth date?? Well as I told them, we have the phone records to prove that we called to ensure the date was correct and that Carlos admitted as much. Now, I'm not an attorney but I'm pretty sure that laws are meant to protect consumers from predators like this - that any small claims court would rule that we need to be made whole and if not for their negligence I would not have been out the additional cost for the last minute fiasco. I'm saddened that a company that we've used before would treat us this way and not make the situation right. Their compensation offer? A free hour with one of their characters. I booked the Minnie Mouse for my daughter's 1st birthday. I was so nervous about this, because even though my daughter loves the Mickey Mouse Clubhouse and all the characters on the show. I wasn't sure how she would react to see them live in person. Boy, was I surprised when I seen just how comfortable she was... Some of the other kids (including our 2yr. son) were a little skeptical. But, not babygirl and I'm happy to give the credit to the performer who was dressed as Minnie Mouse (unfortunately, I forgot her name. :=(. But, she was very gentle and allowed our babygirl the opportunity to warm up to her on her own. The only bad thing is it was sort of hard to hear the "voice" on the radio and hear the instruction to the games they do. But, it wasn't too bad because all the kids seem to be having a blast. It's us old folks that were having a hard time following along. But, then again, the party wasn't for us. LOL! I will defiantly be using them for the next birthday event. My wife spent 2 days working with these guys on securing a character for our 4-year old daughter's bday - from the very beginning, they said the specific talent we were interested in was fully available. Two days later, after working out all the details and everything was confirmed, we gave them our credit card number to put down a deposit (half of the fee). Afterward, we were told that the talent wasn't available. The coordinator herself (Nicole) was very nice, and the manager made two referrals to other services, and profusely apologized. But when she arrived, she said that there were too many kids and that she would have to limit to 2 activities instead of 3. That was a bummer. Especially because there were lesser kids than we expected and even those that did come were too young to be entertained/face painted. But there were a few adults who got their face painted-that's probably why. Mia arrived 20 minutes early and was very professional from the BEGINNING until the very end. Mia went ahead and called me on the day of to give me information and to also ask me what activities I wanted her to do with the kids. We agreed on A magic show, balloon making and face painting. I booked her for 90 minutes. She did these activities and after the activities she got dressed in her ELMO costume and stood for the cake cutting and we also got to take pictures with ELMO. I was somewhat suspect about the "Toy Astronaut" (Buzz Lightyear) and his believability and entertaining skills. HE WAS AWESOME!!!! My 3 yr old son couldn't have been happier, and the party was the day after Disneyland and seeing the "Real Buzz." I would highly recommend this company for a unique and special birthday party! My son turned 5 this past weekend and we had 14 little boys to be entertained and they were over the top about the Star Wars theme. Ben arrived on time- to the minute. He set up in our yard and came out as a Jedi Master. He "taught" the boys the ways of the force and played fun games and the music system was great. The highlight for everyone was when he came back out as the evil Darth Vader and he had a dual with each child. We all took pictures with him and then he was off to his next party. I'm updating my review to 3 stars based on the outreach by Carlos from the company. The day I posted my yelp review, Carlos called and emailed me. He learned of my experience through yelp and not through his employee. He has gone above and beyond to keep me as a customer. I was refunded my original $100 (ended up paying 145 instead of 245) deposit and he has offered a free party for my kids, if and when I chose to use this company again. Bottom line - Carlos is and will be the only reason for me to use this company again. He has given me his word that the experience will be different (clean custom from head to toe, no music challenges, being on time and using phone as the means of communication vs text).
