I wish I had gathered the lady's name this morning (8/9). But she should not be the librarian chosen to sut at the front desk. It was a Caucasian lady, a little heavy set with a short haircut. She was not very welcoming or friendly. She looked at me as if I did not belong in the bulding, which granted I probably looked lost as I am new to the area and it was my first time in this particular library. That would give you a greater need to greet in a friendly manner. I was unable to use a PC bc I didn't have a license with a Birmingham address. Now, at any library it has been customary for there to be strict procedures on checking out books and materials of course, but more lax on using the public PC's, sometimes even offering a guest log in. I have had no problems with branches that are futher away from my actual residence. And I have encountered ppl with much more pleasent disposition. I understand policy, however when dealing with the public in such a setting your goal should be to help not hinder. I merely needed to print a document for my next appt. And had to take a detour to another location to do so. Even a smile would have helped Ms. At any rate it was quiet, seemed clean and my major issue was with the representative vs. the actual location. If you are admin at this location and would like to secure a seminar on customer service let me know, lol. read more
